Avatar (the James Cameron one)

Wow. I had somehow forgotten #1) just how technically stunning this thing was to behold, and #2) just how much fun it was. Even with the cringe worthy dialogue, recycled plot-lines, and borderline militant environmentalism, it was (and still is, in my opinion) one of the most enjoyable and entertaining movie-going experiences of my life.
Now that my interest in all things Avatar has been rekindled somewhat, I am trying to figure out what happened to all the other Avatar fans out there, and this being a sci-fi/fantasy video game board, I thought why not try here? There was a fantastic fan forum called naviblue, but it appears to have been shut down in the 3+ years since I visited. Does anyone here know of any other Avatar fan forums that are still active? With the sequals coming in the next couple years I imagine interest will be on the rise.

If I had actually been expecting more, this thread would be really depressing.

Yeah, it was pretty much made for IMAX 3D.
I went to see it twice in IMAX.
The plot and characters weren't memorable, but the 3D effects were amazing. James Cameron managed to take the audience and plant them on the fictional world of Pandora for a couple hours.
Speaking of films made for IMAX 3D, have you seen Gravity?

Unfortunately not, as a couple years ago my career moved me to a new part of the US, so now the nearest IMAX is about 2 hours away. Heard amazing things about Gravity in IMAX.

I really enjoyed the movie. Criticisms of the plot, heavy-handed environmentalist message, bad writing etc. I feel are well founded, but if you go into the movie just for the visual experience it's a helluva treat. I'm looking forward to any sequels just for the visual experience alone. I missed seeing Avatar in the theatre, so will try to catch the sequel in IMAX 3D. Seems to me it's the perfect type of movie for that experience.
My thoughts as well.

Apparently I'm on the side of the people and their homeworld because I despise the corporate goons and am always happy to see them get the boot.

I enjoy Avatar quite a bit as a fun sci-fi movie. The blu-ray extended edition is stunning and features quite a bit of helpful content that wasn't in the theatrical release.

A thousand times, this.
A fun sci-fi adventure with a stunning fictional world, big blue aliens, and lots of action was all it was every supposed to be, and (in my opinion) it delivered in spades. To this day I don't get the people complaining that the dialogue was too cringe-worthy and there were too many explosions in lieu of deep character development........you guys realize this was a James Cameron production all the way, right?
I often wonder if they complain after taking a shower because the water was too wet for their taste.
Ok, /rant.
For those that enjoyed it but didn't get the chance when it was in theaters, find a way to catch the sequels - whenever they finaly come out - in IMAX 3D. It really turns the entire experience up to 11. Bluray on a big HDTV is nice, but no home theater setup should be mentioned in the same breath as IMAX.

To the people who did not watch it in 3D Imax: You really missed out, visually no movie has come close imo and I would strongly recommend making an effort to see the sequel in the 3D Imax if possible.
I do have to say though... I am not a huge fan of the story one way or another, it serves its purpose fine but it hardly stood out for me, its pretty much your standard "evil corporations just gotta rape the world of its resources" sorta thing.
