In truth, Tevinter isn't actually that much different if you look at it a certain way.  Arguably most societies have a caste system of sorts--any society in which social class is largely determined at birth, really.  Even if there is the possibility of social mobility, in practical terms most people remain in whatever social class to which they're born.  So really, the Qunari system is just more honest and direct about it.

But getting back to Tevinter, you've the slave class, the liberati, the mages, the Magisters...it's not actually all that different when you boil it down, if the existence of the caste system is what bothers you.

In that regard, six in one hand and half a dozen in the other.

It dpends on who my character is. If I'm simply a denizen of greater Thedas and not a member of either party I'd side with Tevinter, simply because the Qunari and their singlemindednes are a far greater threat than the divided magisters. But if I were to live in and fight for one of the given civilizations I'd side with the Qunari, because they find peace in service and I want to know that certainty they go on about.

Ugh fine I side with the Qunari.

At least I don't worry about magic. Technology can be replicated, improved upon and so forth in enough time the Qunari can only keep their technological advantage for so long. Tevinter on the other hand...

Tevinter and the Black Chantry sound more metal, let's go with that.

Tevinter because I can see the other nations being able to take it down if it became too much of a threat. The Qunari? Er... I doubt they could, tbh.

Tervinter withstood three Exalted Marches and a Blight all from within the walls of just their capital. The Qunari who appeared suddenly and cut a massive swathe of Thedas and brought it under their semi-Control also broke upon the walls of Minrathous.

Tervinter is pretty much what the Spartans would have become if they were bothered to change their tactics slightly to face new enemies, Boss.

While I do support the Qunari in some points, their rigid society and unchanging values and extremely harsh treatment of Magic users forces me to lean towards supporting Tervinter.

Tervinter itself is not as evil as the Chantry would have you believe. Yes blood magic is still used, albeit in secret, by some Magisters, the majority don't see a need for it because Tervinter mages are easily anywhere between 2-5 times stronger than a mage from the rest of Thedas due to their respect for magic itself and for allowing mages to study magic in depth.

Getting Hardcore are we?

Always.

Well, in truth I'm not sure where I stand on the Qunari on the whole. There are some things about their ideology I think need to be reformed (conversion and mages, though Mages can be Ben-Hassrath which grants them more freedom (albeit limited)) because they're far from perfect, but they're more human then Tevinter. So for this, the Qunari are the better of the two.

Listening to Sten talk about the Tal-Vashoth attacks always gets to me.

*sigh*

Evil, don't make me have to face you on the field of battle.

Given the choice between a society that nurtures hatred and a society that wants the best for its people and considers everyone as being part of a large family, I'll go with the latter.

Plus, the Stenishok will ride into battle at the head of the Dreadnought with a box of cookies under one arm and a crate of kittens under the other.

The answer is clear: Support the Stenishok.

Qunari more human than Tevinter? Wut? Even if you mean humane, WUT?

Also you aren't a big part of a huge family. You are an automaton for the betterment of the state. Of course militaristic totalitarianism could be another phrase for family. That language, I do not know, however.

I suggest giving the weaker side a slight boost, just enough so that both sides will be able to cripple each other.
