seems like all the good players just use the harrier, talon, collector smg, lancer, PPR, acolyte, etc, and the bad players use the raptor, blood pack, evicerator, geth pulse rifle, etc, and these weapons get lost in between.

Those are popular guns on PC

The Venom on the other hand is hardly used.

Disagree good players are good w wathever weapons.
BPP not even half bad... just marksman-dependent, the gun was built exclusively for TSol.
Eviscerator is quite a decent gun for gold.
Agree on saber and crusader. GPS is niche.
Indra would have been grate if not mandatory scoping.
I rarely ever see CSR, Raider, Palladin. Among staggersticks I haven't seen scorpion in ages.

+1. Especially Saber and Crusader. I saw so many good players using them I weep at my inability to use them...

Also I don't see Harrier or Lancer used on ps3 by players I think that are good frequently at all. Most of the time I don't come across them even once a day.

Most frequent weapons I saw included Talon, Wraith, Claymore and Venom by a certain individual

I use the GPS, and the Sabre and Crusader are in my regular rotation.

In fact, they are the Shotgun and Assault Rifle that I most commonly use.

I don't recall the last time I saw someone else using this weapon. It's light for a shotgun, doesn't need shredder or heavy barrel, is pretty reliable for stagger and has good accuracy, while suffering from off-host projectile issues. It's an excellent choice for a melee vanguard. Also of note: it's a Krogan shotgun... why did I need to write anything else?

I see most other 'good' weapons used on a pretty regular basis on gold.

I've never gotten the graal to work. I don't even know what mods to put on it. I'm assuming piercing doesn't work, but does the smart choke do anything? Do I charge it up every time or spam it? What class do I use it on? What ammo types is it good with? Can it get headshots? I forgot this weapon even existed tbh.

Charge, aim and head, release. Repeat. Fire uncharged shots whenever neccessary to finish stuff off. You can snipe headshots from really far away if it's charged up.

Smart choke does nothing IIRC has minimal effect and isn't really worth it.

Edit: Also, the CSR is amazing, but one of the reasons it probably doesn't get used too much is unless somebody tells you, or you come here, you probably wouldn't think to reapeatly click/tap the trigger in order to use it well. Firing it full auto makes it underwhelming.

I usually ran it with capacity and original damage barrel. Charge it then headshot, it is pretty accurate (on host). The 2 favorite kits I used it on were originally the Batarian Soldier since the Graal can stagger, it was my Venom before the Venom. The other kit was the Krogan Warlord with Omni-Blade and original damage barrel. Run around with that and the Hammer charged and nothing could drop me. Even if I had just used the Hammer a charged headshot from the Graal would one-shot a Phantom (on host).

There have been a few good threads about the graal, here is one.

In summary:
It gets a great multiplier (x3) for headshots on mooks, but takes some work against bosses (although retains a x2 headshot multiplier against praetorians).
Charging improves the damage noticeably and achieves max charge damage very quickly.
While it is accurate, you will be able to snipe with it and a smart choke -- just lead your target, because it is a projectile weapon.
Hosting is best, but combined with stagger can be used off-host (meh).
Ignores armour, but does not pierce.
It does not do bleed damage, contrary to the description.

As for ammo, I prefer incendiary or warp, but that should depend on your kit.
