Or be killed in the deeproads... You can kill him, but he pops up agian in DAA without a care.

Where exactly you can kill Oghren? Care to provide a video?

Oghren dies in DA:O, comes back to life in DAA. Anders dies in DAA, comes back in DA2. Leliana dies in DA:O, comes back in DA2 and beyond. We should be used to this by now, I just hope they don't resurrect Anders again(or justice possessing his corpse or something) or Merril.

Can you prove they died? I dont seem to recall checking any of their pulses, could just be they all just faked their own deaths.

I never tried to kill Leliana or Zevran, so I never worried about that. Oddly enough, the part about Leliana's cameo I didn't like was seeing her dual wield knives. C'mon, I spent that DA playthrough I imported from turning her into a serious mofo with her bow.

Ah, well. I try to pick my battles and I know I was being petty there.

Also, with most of the characters dying in DA:A, that was optional choices. Potential outcomes, not anything I'd call locked into cannon. I think the Keep is going to go a long way to help fix some of the issues that importing saves could cause.

I killed Leliana in DA:O, but  Leliana's corpse seems to have been risen by a bloodmage and has been used to infiltrate the seekers of truth in DA:2. Its probably just an oversight or bug with the savegame import

Not a bug. It's intentional that she is still alive.

but please remember the Leliana=DEAD flag in the planned DA:Keep tool :)

The DA Keep will look for whether you killed her (or attempted to, if you prefer) in DAO, and DAI will react to that. It doesn't mean she's dead in DAI, your desire to kill her and (evidently) stomp on her corpse notwithstanding.

The kill animation was fairly final. DA:O's gorey effects were very specific that she exploded into a plethora of bits and pieces. I've seen a few videos where he head was removed. Attempt, I feel, isn't quite the right word.

My play through that didn't kill her is fine with her being back. I had more than one. But I always wondered what the point even way. In DA2, outside of the DLC, she doesn't do anything worth bringing her back for. The DLC she's in, well, it's still like the end of DA2, literally anyone could have been in those shoes.

If DA:I presents me with something no one else could have done, I'll accept the Maker, some random traveller, or whatever, brought her back. But if I feel like, "Anyone could be doing this" at any time, I'll just continue to wonder why you didn't have a stand in character in her place. Right now all I have to go by is DA2, and by that measure, I've seen no reason to bring her back other than, "I just wanted to." I'd like to think DA:I would change my mind there, but, at the same time, you may have just wanted to. Maybe so. I know more than a few of my writing instructors would argue with that motivation, for a variety of reasons. I'd just like there to be more to it than that.

You know, when I came across this the other day I immediately thought about this forum.
This section especially:

Things are a bit more complicated with the matter of Star Wars games. The overall scenario and documentation (cutscenes, manuals, strategy guides etc) are proper EU (see C-canon below). This, however, doesn't apply to "game mechanics" and stats.
Game mechanics are the "artistic license" properties of the game that separate any computer game from reality and serve to make one more playable and enjoyable; for example Kyle Katarn carrying 10 weapons simultaneously, fully and immediately recovering from wounds simply by touching a bacta tank, bodies of defeated enemies disappearing etc., are things not realistically possible. Game mechanics are also some special effects accompanying the use ofForce powers, such as sounds and glow surrounding the caster, which never appear in the movies. Health, shield, and Force repository are also game mechanics.

All those people on here that take the random combat animations (such as beheadings) as absolute truth might want to read that.

then Wynne should have gotten up and walked out to if she was there.  But she doesn't, she is absent from Awakenings.

This is another one of those B doesn't follow from A problems. Even if Wynne survived the temple, she might be suffciently changed as a character that she doesn't do the things not brutally murdered Wynne does. All of this is to say that, no, Wynne isn't proof that someone Leliana couldn't live.

And even if Wynne doesn't come back and Leliana does, that still wouldn't disprove the proposition. It's not as if people dying in surgey is tantamount to unequivocally proving that surgery can never save lives.

Look I get it the writers liked the character, fans liked the character, I like the character so they hand waved that scene from the game to bring her back.  But if we're going to act like that place has that much healing power Grey Wardens would be lined up out the door there rather than going on their callings.   People coming back from the dead is a huge step to take and throw out there.

Well, (a) just because it can revive the dead doesn't mean it can cure the taint; in fact (B) since it cures Eamon but the Warden still has the taint we can infer it doesn't deal with the taint; and © if you publize the ashes people do line up.

@Janan Pacha: you forget than in DAO you can behead Zevran and Loghain in combat and then talk and recruit them. There's a cutscene with Howe after the combat when he talks, and yet he might be beheaded (he usually is, stangely enough, when I play a Cousland). Maybe even Sten.
Are all those examples of people living or briefly talking without their head fine? Their death in combat might be pretty 'final'.

Leliana has more of a potential excuse to be alive than Oghren.

Why wouldn't Oghren be alive?  He can leave or be kicked out of the party but I don't remember any chance to kill him in DAO or DAA.  Is there something I missed or would the calling have got him after only 8 years?  Duncan was starting to get hints of his calling after 20 years so I suppose it's possible.

Get him down to 100 hostile and you can end up killing him. It's easy enough to verify. Keep asking him to leave and changing your mind and you'll get a reputation hit every time.

Even as someone who hates the revived Leliana nonsense I find the people who keep bringing up the beheading animation to be insufferable
