I think it's pretty clear we're supposed to like Dany, Tyrion, and Jon. Jon in particular is the closest ASoIaF gets to a stereotypical fantasy hero. At least in the novels. Tywin though... yeah, probably not. >.<

I probably should have gone with archetypal instead of stereotypical. Then again, exceptions do exist. I guess Jon is yours. So... mission accomplished, GRRM! XD

Aeris in FFVII. She's boring at best and an annoyance at worst, and there have been much more impactful character deaths in video games both before and since.

Runner up: The Bride (Kill Bill)

What makes you say that?

Bill? Budd? O-Ren Ishi? Elle? Yeah all of them, unrepentent killers, that deserve to die. Just Like Beatrix. But Vernita?! Really?! She goes off to do EXACTLY what the Bride wanted to do. Stop killing and start a family. By the time she catches up to her, the Vernita that betrayed Beatrix was already dead. And what does the Bride do even though she realizes this wouldn't be revenge? She murders her in front of her kid, dares the kid to come after her, then walks out like she's some kinda hero.

While I agee that the Bride can hardly be considered a heroine, I wouldn't call Copperhead repentent. She's retired, and that is it. You never get a sense that's she remorseful or has any issues with killing again if need be. I would also argue pleading to be left alone because she has a daughter makes her a hypocrite. It's perfectly okay for her to do that to the Bride, but suddenly taboo when it's her turn?

She got what was coming to her same as the rest.

Surely you're not supposed to like either of them? Especially Lori.

EDGE. MAVERICK.

The main character of Star Ocean 4.
When even I can be a better star ship/ exploration captain then something is very very wrong.

Oh and he was responsible for blowing up Earth-2 because of his stupidity, then he proceeded to whine like a teen age girl for 10 bloody hours.

I just wanted to stab him with an ice pick and tell him to man up. True he was such a dunce that he basically killed 7 billion people but sitting around and whining about it ain't gonna help. GET MAD! FIND SOMETHING EVIL! SMITE IT! RAAAAAWRRR!!! You're supposed to be a brave space faring hero/ captain of the star ship enterprise! FLIPPING ACT LIKE IT!

Oh and teh guy rejected teh advances of a cat girl. And an adorable one at that.

Oghren. In DAA specifically and not so much hate but more so dislike. From the moment he burped after consuming the blood from the Grey Warden vial, I was over him. I did like his party banter though.

Star Ocean was the last straw with JRPGs for me. One can only take so many whiny teenagers cluttering up space and fantasy realms with their emo self-absorption. :P

I abslolutely loved SO3 but SO4 did kinda burn me out on JRPGs as well until I found the spark again with Tales of Xillia. Only real problem with SO4 is the main character and the predictable as all hell plot and the final boss (Which I spent spamming heal spells with Myura and watching how the stupid as all hell AI tried to smack a flying target). Otherwise it's a solid experience.

The situation created should be interesting, regardless of what happens to the affected character, everything else should fall apart.

I tried to romance her once to unlock an achievement/trophy and couldn't summon the will power to go through with it.

Niko Bellic in GTA IV. There wasn't a single redeeming thing about him. He wasn't funny, he wasn't cool, and his motivations for doing the rotten stuff he did (and by extension, you do in the game) weren't at all human.
