As you head out with Aria to find the Talon leader, right after she talks to you about the crates of Red Sand, you get to a ladder. Climb up the ladder and behind you you see a lift with some destructible crates on it. If you destroy them and then hit the lift control nearby the lift will operate. But why? What's the point? Was this something that was in the original level design, but then they changed their mind but left it in? Or is there something about this lift I am not getting?

If you take the lift you can get to an assault rifle mod.

Well, I went up there and looked, but didn't find anything. But that may be because I am playing an NG+ and may have that mod maxed out. I will take another look when I am not playing an NG+.

Yup.  This is the only reason to go through that process.

I tried trapping Aria on the platform to get additional dialogue but it didn't work.
