PE has ranger, huh. If it has shapeshifter too, I may have to say sorry to DA but you just don't take care of my needs like PE does.

All Druids can spiritshift, which transforms them into anthropomorphic animals. So like shapeshifters, but they can still cast spells.

Shut the front door. I'm going to be able to be a freaking spell casting bear?

If I hadn't already backed this project, I would just mail these guys my credit card.

Go ahead PM the number, I go to the same subway as Josh Sawyer I swear. :innocent:

Also post on the PoE forums more, I wanna see your insight on the update threads

I started out on the PoE forums, but I quickly got away. I like to be really surprised when I play games I am excited about, even games I Kickstart pledge to. So I've gone dark on the vast majority of the project except the occassional email update.

Ignorance is bliss, as they say. And I want to be blown away with every aspect of the game... and the small tidbits I've heard, like werebear spellcasters, is just enough to fuel the fire of my excitement, but still keep most of the mystery for me.

After all, I've already pre-paid. There's no point in reading reviews or making an informed decision before playing the game - I've already got it. So best just to let the game speak for itself.

But Jimmy you can influence the game mechanics, that's half the fun of being a backer. Also did you finalize your pledge?

I did. I'm all squared away for the game itself, but I was impressed with the level of sophistication with the other posters. I have pretty good faith in their ability to actually talk about game mechanics at a level that exceeded mine, so the discussion was, overall, in good hands.

Hmm were-shifting huh... I'll take that. Now I know what my druid's theme will be.

So if they say the current schedule is winter 2014, I guess we should be prepared to expect Summer 2015? Also, just to note, in an RPS interview, it was confirmed that there won't be romance in PoE.

As an fan of the old school fantasy/d&d art and style, I def like that non over exaggerated look.   The huge/spikey armors and what not  are pretty gag inducing.

So... aside from the announcement that Paradox Interactive is publishing the game (still wrapping my head around why a firm mostly known for strategy games is publishing this, as opposed to Obsidian which is known for RPGs and who actually developed the game... but whatevs), do we know anything else at this point, specifically about a release date? Just popped into the PoE website and it is still saying Winter 2014, which is either Winter in the Southern Hemisphere out just plain outdated...

Anyone know of any news?

Only top down. The environments are 2D, so you can't change perspectives.

On the bright side, they're very pretty 2D environments.

Unrelated: I have my character more or less planned out for this but I can't decide between Druid or Chanter.

I wasn't sure how I felt about this game. At first I was unimpressed, and didn't get the hype, but now I might give it a try. The graphics don't really bother me. What I've seen reminds me a lot of Celtic Kings and Imperivm III, and those games had a certain charm to their looks. I haven't really played an RPG of this sort before, so do you guys think it would be worth it to try Baldur's Gate and/or Planescape: Torment in the meantime? I've heard those two are quite good.

Yes you need to play those games particular planescape torment to get a handle or a feel for what this game might be like, play wise and perhaps genre/story wise.

Depends on your personal tastes, I think, but I do think you should play SOME kind of old school isometric game to get a feeling of the genre and what Obsidian was looking to return to (and hopefully vastly improve on).

BG and Planescape are good (great, even), but there other options, again depending on tastes. The first two Fallout games were excellent isometric games, as was Arcanum, Temple of the Elemental Evil and the Icewind Dale games.
