I was hoping the bloke who did the Jagged Alliance 2 Let's Plays.

Crusty? That who you're talking about? if so, I haven't seen him here in ages.

Go for it, and when you do make sure you post links. I want to see some in-the-real-world gameplay eventually.

Crusty goes by 'Knights of Colour' these days, he's around.

That guy is a total bellend. A tosspot if I've ever seen one, m8.

But nah, I don't have the time. Divinity: Original Sin is nowhere near complete, and I still want to buy Age of Mythology EE to play after that. I will probably wait until Pillars is wholly released before I do a Let's Play of it (if I do one).

I do have some ideas, but depending on how Original Sin pans out, I may just re-adapt it for that seeing as it's fun as hell.

i.e Some BSN/Game of Throne mix - Reek of House Inquisitor (words: "We do not clop") partnered with someone else as the main characters. Just off the top of my head.

Again, that's if I decide to do one. If BSN still has those retarded image limits per post, I may not bother.

I figure I'd got for the Enhanced Edition on Steam for 5 bucks. I don't use GOG because you can't buy things offline (I can buy Steam "credit" at Gamestop with cash).

Cool. I didn't know you could do that. If the EE is that cheap I'd get both. Just do a bit of research into the 2e D&D system (if you're totally new to D&D just read Order of the Stick - you learn a lot about how D&D works intuitively with that comic).

I would also use an area walkthrough for the early part of the game (doesn't spoil plots, just mentions points of interest), but YMMV on that one. It takes a bit to get used to how different BG1 (even when upgraded to the BG2 engine) is from modern RPGs.

That's typically how cheap it (well, they--both games) is during sales.

I imagine it will be very very different. How different would you say it is from DA:O? On DA:O on Normal, I don't "power build" or choose a party based on maximum damage (though I do have the tank, the rogue, and two mages typically).

One thing that I see mentioned a lot is the serious difficulty of the older games--and I may be a filthy casual (I doubt you feel that way, but there's always SOMEone), but overly difficult games where I don't have enough control over the party (Hammer & Sickle is an excellent example of a very difficult game where you can "chunk" from a heatshot, but it gives you total control over the "party" in addition to true turn combat so I loved it and did well) are difficult for me to get into.

In terms of party control, if you've played Origins (on the PC) you will get used to BG pretty quickly. I guess you miss out on features like custom AI tactics, get used to 6 second rounds and the like but yeah, it will not be too hard to pick up on.

Just tried out the beta, it feels very reminiscent of the infinity engine games which I like. It's also quite buggy at the moment. Not sure if it was worth paying an extra $25 but whatever, it's been very entertaining to play so far, minus a few glitches.

I made a wood elf barbarian to start off. All the classes seem to be pretty developed and offer something unique. The fights are very fast paced, I was getting destroyed almost every fight until I started getting used to the fast pace of the combat. I imagine It will take me a while to really get comfortable with the combat.

The ui is a lot more minimal than Baldur's Gate which is great, but there's something about it that feels strangely off. Probably just needs a little tweaking. Overall, I think they've done a great job capturing the spirit of the infinity engine games. Can't wait to get my hands on the finished product.

Yeah, there are definitely some bugs and general glitchiness in the beta but holy cow, do they nail the feeling of an Infinity Engine game. From the UI to the dialogue and everything... I am really happy with what I've played. The combat is tough but I feel that's probably in part because I haven't read any documentation on the mechanics and the beta is basically dumping you into mid level combat scenarios.

Really can't wait for the final release.

Prepare yourselves for the bugfest!

It may destroy the good impression of the game badly.

I like what I'm seeing but if the game is bugged upon release then people should hate Obsidian for it. They've acquired near 4 million for the game. It can't release with the same level of bugs as their other games, at least it can't if they desire to keep a good reputation. I'd also be suspicious about what they did with most of that money if the game releases in poor quality. I'm calling it now: 3.5 million was spent on prostitutes and pot.

Obsidian HAS a good reputation?

While I enjoy the vast majority of their games, I usually buy them well after release (so that the vast majority of bugs are fixed). Expect any Obsidian game to be bugged to hell on release, and HOPE that the vast majority of them will be fixed.

They have a good reputation for making good role-playing games, not for making games which run or play well. People forgive them of the bugs in their current games but I don't think many would forgive them if Eternity releases with a plethora of bugs considering it gained near (if not over through other donations) 4 million dollars. People will be pissed and rightfully so. Questions will be raised such as to what they did with half the money and why they didn't hire competent testers who don't spend their entire time jerking each other off (as the case clearly was with all Obsidian games).

I'd imagine they haven't put all that money towards Eternity and the team needed for it anyway but with those donations, I mean it would be wise of them to put some aside for good testers this time and developers who actually know what they're doing in terms of engine and script design. They can spend the rest on pot and prostitutes for all I care, Eternity should at least run well at release. I'm not expecting a game free of bugs but at least one that isn't anything like their other titles at release.

And surely those geezers know they can't release a bugged game considering the money they got. Surely they know of the outcry that would follow and potential further sells lost from people who will be waiting for patches (like me and you).

I think Obsidian's reputation for bugged releases is a bit overstated these days. No question their first couple or three were bugfests, but their later releases haven't been any worse than most games. Unfortunately, it seems people are far more critical of bugs in Obs games, where they'd barely register or be overlooked from other devs.

Since New Vegas (which was worst than the average game with its bugs), they've only done Dungeon Siege 3 and that South Park RPG. Apparently there were technical problems in South Park according to some reviews. In any case, I don't think DS3 and South Park are good enough to cut Obsidian slack from their buggy past considering they were smaller than their very bugged titles. So perhaps the bolded part is true for these two games but I'd personally only cut Obsidian off from the hook if Eternity releases without a infestation of bugs.

Not sure about New Vegas. I didn't play it at release, but I read a number of reviews and comments about it when it came out and it seemed the reports of its bugginess were all over the place, with some claiming it was a bug fest and others claiming it wasn't that bad. Same with Alpha Protocol. But this is kind of my point. It seems to me that the only reason these games were reported as bugfests is because they were made by Obsidian. Other devs would have gotten a pass if they'd released games in the same state.

KotOR 2 and NWN2: yeah, buggy as hell. Unfortunately it seems these games have led the majority of gamers to look at anything with Obsidian's name on it with a jaundiced eye and perhaps biases their opinion of Obs' games.

Whatever though. The fact is you're correct about PoE: if it releases in a highly buggy state, it's not going to be a pretty scenario for Obsidian.

People complaining about bugs of a beta release.

People going out of their way to underline how much it affects their enjoyment there are bugs here. In beta version. Of a game.

What do you expect to get when playing a beta version of a game? Specially an allegedly early beta at it.

Every " I know it's beta, but..." sentence regarding bugs and rough corners is incredibly invalid by default.

It pisses me off how my clothes got soaked after jumping in a pool full of water. It was not quite what I expected. I know water is wet, but..

I can't imagine that you've lost as many hours of progress to corrupted saves in New Vegas as the people who are still complaining.
