Contrary to what most people on here seem to say about any devout character, given there was also tons of hate for Leliana too, I really didn't dislike Sebastian and enjoyed his unique perspective.

However, seeing as we couldn't even get him until the second chapter, it was a bit disappointing to discover the only way I could have ever romanced him was if throughout the game I didn't flirt with anyone else. I mean, here I am trying to guage the types of characters the others are, and I'm being punished for a bonus that rarely shows itself romantically. I mean sure there's a cool benefit if you rival him, that you could become royalty, but Varric barely even mentions that if at all.

Hell, even when Hawke's mother dies, Sebastian doesn't even show up to comfort you. I understand that this character was made after the game was already finished, but it was so disappointing to see how little it developed in the seven years of knowing each other. And with that said, I'd hate to see the next potential DLC character fall to the same fate, or any other character for that matter.

Yeah I don't like that DLC companions get given less content, or content that is presented in a totally different way to the base game companions. Like in ME2, the DLC companions just have a set number of little lines to say on repeat rather than actual conversations. I hated how a romanced Sebastian had to have Aveline comfort Hawke after Leandra died.

That said, Shale was integrated more or less perfectly in my opinion.

I agree that DLC characters should feel more tied in with everything else. Though I think they did a great job of including Sebastian when present, I can't really see what was stopping him for joining in act 1.

I am not against "half romances" either. Given the adequate number of options in Dragon Age 2 I think it was rather nice to have Sebastian as a "promise" and Aveline as a refusal, sort of like Samara.

I agree that he wasn't integrated in a good way, always feelt a little distant, like he wasn't really supposed to be in the story.

Something like Shale would be prefered or like Javik in ME3, even though I hated his guts he was still immersed in a far greater way then Sebastian was!

Javik was probably my favourite, but mostly because of how much he trolled Liara. Shale was also wonderful and I'm actually really hoping she'll make an appearance, if not be another companion in DA:I.

Javik was definitely the best DLC squad member so far in terms of integration and personal content.

If I had to pin down the one thing I didn't like about Sebastian, it would be that he didn't join the party until Act 2. I prefer ME2, ME3, and DA:O, where the DLC characters can be recruited very close to the beginning.

Exactly. With Sebastian, the first time I got him, I wasn't very invested in his character because outside of him, I already knew everyone else. And that's why it bothered me further that the game even went so far as to punish me if I wanted to romance him, all because I flirted with other characters while he wasn't even around.

If we have bad romances, I hoping for a 10th companion DLC and I hope it's an attractive female character and potential LI.

Is this so the bad romance equals out?

Well, in DA2 I only like Isabella as a LI and Aveline wasn't an LI so I felt it was kind of unfair that there was three male LIs and only two female. Gotta keep things balance.

I like Sebastian, more of him would have been nice.

I thought this would be another thread/post bashing a character for being religious, glad to see I was wrong. :D

I'm with you on hoping they integrate future DLC characters better, especially if they are romanceable. I don't think anyone in the party mentions or references your romance with Sebastian and the only romancey party banter with him is during the Legacy DLC and Bethany calls you a "lucky ****" if you married him and bring her and Sebastian along on the MotA DLC

I liked the character, but he did arrive too late to the party. I almost never used him because of that.

I abhorred Sebastian, although he was rather easy on the eyes. I just didn't like how he was ready to raze Kirkwall to the ground because I wouldn't kill Anders.

I didn't like him that much compared to the other characters, but I liked his unique skill tree a lot.

I agree that he was not as crucial to the game as he should have been. The problem was that he wasn't thought up until after the game was finished, and it seems like they had issues integrating him into the story properly. While I didn't necessarily like him too much as a person (a bit preachy and self-righteous for my tastes), I liked his character a lot. He had a believable personality in my opinion.

Edit: I realized too late that the OP already mentioned that bit about Sebastion's character being made after the game was finished. It's a little too early for me to be posting, I guess. :pinched:

While I understand he was created later on, Javik had been done so well. I know they're separate sections of Bioware, but perhaps they learned something from that mistake. One can only hope that if they DO have another dlc character, that they're not like the DLC characters who had very little conversation options outside of combat.

Sebastian's intro scene was awesome, but unfortunately his awesomeness went downhill after that. I'm glad I decided to go for Fenris as my romance in my first playthrough. Chaste romance.... what a conclusion. I agree that he wasn't integrated very well, especially when you want to romance him. Ironic that you have to pay extra to get a character that fits less well in the game than the rest of the cast.

He was okay.  I found his personality pretty bland, the only stand out trait being his faith.  His story arc, being shorter than the other companions also suffered in that he spent most of the game waffling from his two viewpoints, never experiencing much growth as a character.  He seemed to be well enough integrated--if not romanced, then it became glaring how poorly connected he was to the story--but as a companion, his quests were interesting enough, his banters were fully integrated to the rest of the group.  His story was good, just not outstanding.  I wish he had been full on part of the game and a viable third option for romance for a female Hawke.

Varric was more likeable (for me) though and he was my go-to archer rogue for those games I didn't play one myself, so aside from his quests, Sebastian saw little face-time in my game.  A pity his application didn't meet my expectations, since his intro was well done and his concept had me pretty excited to run with him, prior to actually integrating him into my group.

I seem to have the same problem as everyone else here, with Sebastian not fitting into my game as he should have. In contrast I think about Shale and how much one misses out without her in the party. Bioware knows how to do this and I'm afraid Sebastian was another victim of the game being made in too much haste.

Yes, I'm sure with more time, Sebastian would have been quite interesting. Admittedly, what intrigued me initially was his gorgeous armour. It's just too bad that there wasn't more of him fleshed out, but one can only hope they'll do a better job should he make another appearance.

Agreed. I liked Sebastian well enough I just never felt I was able to bond with him because of his later introduction.

I heartily agree.  I went for Sebby on my second playthrough (Anders was my first) so I had to read up on it so I wouldn't screw up.  Getting him in the second Act was kinda lame and I do heartily agree not having him show up was a missed opportunity.

But also (and if anyone can give a source as I'm going by old memory here) I swore it was either Mary Kirby or another who stated we would see more of Sebby's background in maybe upcoming material for the game.  Sadly, that never came to pass.  I was disappointed.

I don't mind paying for a companion in a DLC but please, make sure they are fully fleshed out to work with the whole main game.
