I tend to metagame the hell out of certain RPGs, so certain Shepards are set up to fail.

The idea that someone who 'hates' aliens and robots would ever spend time with science fiction clearly featuring both to begin with?

You know, I would really like to see a correlation between how much people supposedly 'hate' synthetics and aliens and how far they lean on the Paragon/Renegade scale. I imagine it would be very interesting.

Fiction is meant to provoke responses about topics, themes, and conflicts, especially science-fiction.
Distrust towards aliens and robots within sociological settings that feature them is a perfectly viable position to take.
Not one I take (I'm a per-individual type of guy who doesn't work in broad strokes), but viable. Acceptance isn't mandatory.

Tell me Dreamgazer, on what basis do you think people 'hate' aliens and 'hate' robots?
I have to admit, I had a bit of a hard time following this as well.Steelcan wrote...

Or perhaps people tend renegade because they dislike aliens and synthetics?David7204 wrote...
Well that's simple. I would fully expect people to 'hate' synthetics and aliens the more Renegade they lean.
Which is fine. The question is why. Particularly considering that it certainly seems to be Renegade players shrieking that Paragon players are 'blindly' picking the top choices and dialogue.
The idea that someone who 'hates' aliens and robots would ever spend time with science fiction clearly featuring both to begin with?
Or the idea that anyone but crazy rednecks worried about world domination and luddites 'hate' aliens and robots in the first place? Since they're not even proven/in existence yet?
Or the idea that aliens and synthetics in Mass Effect are so unlikeable and offensive that they deserve 'hate' when aliens and robots and other science fiction don't?
On the basis of their actions and policies, perhaps?David7204 wrote...

In some fiction, the audience is even supposed to hate non-humans. Take Battlestar Galatica for example. It's a story of humans trying to triumph over non humans.

So what perceptions and biases are those, exactly?

So what perceptions and biases are those, exactly? Did a robot give them a dirty look? Or maybe there are too many aliens hanging around street corners?

Not really OP. Everyone from ME1 is off the crew in my opinion. Subtract Morinth, Mordin, Legion, Thane, Jack, Samara, Grunt, and EDI as well.
I'd have liked having more OC's that weren't a part of the alliance and were independent and had dark backgrounds.
Kirrahe would've been cool to have (or a Salarian operative), as well as a Batarian. I'd have Miranda, Jacob, James, and Javik as well. I suppose Kasumi or Zaeed would be the seventh character. Otherwise, give me the ability to dictate what all the squadmates do, whether they live or die, and whether they have good or bad relations with my Shepard, as well as being able to dictate my Shepard's actual attitude about everything. I'd like less action and more RP in my games.
I'm with Deinon on the conversations idea. It's too alliance-centric as it is in the game.

Let's stop beating around the bush.
The answer is very simple. Renegade players hate aliens and synthetics because BioWare told them to.
BioWare made it clear Renegade players are pro human. They obediently obeyed. Simple as that.

I don't think that's a fair assessment.David7204 wrote...

I'd say there are far more people out there mindlessly clicking the top of the wheel every single time and internalizing whatever position Shepard advocates than the opposite. I've played through the trilogy four times; none of them conformed with what you're suggesting here.David7204 wrote...
