Not just with Mass Effect, of course. No doubt countless people exist who would shriek their lungs out at the idea of more government control and power in real life. And then who go and gleefully support content like Caesar's Legion as soon as they log in, a totalitarian society where the individual exists in complete submission to the state?

Real life =/= Video games.

So I was exactly right, then? Two sets of ideals? One in real life, one for the internet?

Yes. I do not think of the repurcussions of my actions towards sets of pixels. I do, however, consider the repurcussions of my actions towards myself and real people.

So, is my mindset somehow morally reprehensible? Am I giving into a...power fantasy?

Look at how comical this is.

It is! You should do stand up with material like this

'Pro-human' people are generally not interested in science fiction, or really much of anything besides meth and alcohol.

It's gold Davey! Gold!

How many are going to try and claim to me they 'hate' aliens? They 'hate' synthetics? I didn't think I would have to point out the laughable ridiculousness in supposedly 'hating' something that isn't even in existence. Isn't even proven?

As opposed to what? Blindly accepting something that doesn't exists? Right that's so much more rational.

Is this how it is for people? A set of ideals in real life, and a set of ideals on the internet?

Given you apply your own set of personal ideals to every work of fiction out there yourself how is this a new concept for you?

Are they they really that weak and fragile? Meek and mild in real life. Fervent supporters of genocide and murder as soon as they step online. Nobody sane 'hates' aliens in real life. The idea is laughable. Step online, super-duper pro human cause aliens and robots suck and are evil.

They're fervent supporters of dealing with threats as they see fit, you can just as easily accuse anyone who want to kill the Reapers of supporting genocide. I do just that on my joke account.

Since you admit it, not at all.

Not exactly.  Role-playing games can serve as an exaggerated format for the way you feel in real life.

For instance, somebody who has slight suspicions towards the trend of live robotics in modern society can RP a hardcore robot hater.

We're gonna need a bigger boat.

Anyway, the game would need to be extra long with lots more missions and plots to justify having so many characters, and that would just be way too diluted a story

You say this as if ME3's story could actually BE more diluted.

The premise is the war against the Reapers, but their involvement and development in the actual plot is almost nonexistent aside from the very end if the game and 2 optional DLCs.

And by "involvement and development", I mean time spent in-game actually learning abou the Reapers and how to fight them, instead of the usual "they're killing us all" message at the start of every mission in which they're fought.

Lol, I think we started going off track once we started talking about Mass Effect/Bioware telling us what our Shepards were.

It can be a bit difficult to vocalize more nuanced positions in the confines of an RPG.

EX: Set the queen free or kill her; if you do the latter, Shepard's dialogue will make you do it from a position of heartlessness, not responsibility. People on these boards have said they actually mute the game at that part because, while it is what they would do, Shepard's provided "reasoning" is winceworthy.

It seems to me that this is the 'power fantasy.' Ideals that only exist and can only exist in a realm where no pain or consequences exists. A world where players are free to gleefully indulge in their impulses.

I do think ME3 could've stood to have a slightly bigger (1-2 members) crew, maybe Jack and Miranda.

Which is perfectly fine. So long as players are mature enough to recognize it for what is it and not attempt to seriously argue that a society such as the Legion would be good in real life because it's satisfying in the fantasy world.
