And why, exactly, do we need all these individuals following Shepard around just waiting to go into the field, instead of helping their respective peoples?
Smaller crew > Bigger crew.
Wouldn't this crew satisfy you in Mass Effect 3?

I think people are being a bit unfair to the game about this. I think one of the big problems here is that the TPS design of the game doesn't fit seamlessly with giant nigh indestructible deathbots, because we can't fight them often on foot, but we can kill their monsters, which we actually do quite a lot throughout the game. But to say that they're almost "nonexistent" is wrong.
Did you read the final paragraph? "Almost nonexistent" is a very apt description of their plot development. Aside from the very end of the game, Leviathan, or the EC (like I already pointed out), can you name a single time in ME3 where we actually learn anything about the Reapers?

You can bet dollars if doughnuts that if BioWare wrote Renegade dialogue to say all romance is stupid and pointless (more eloquently, of course), people would be in support of it and attempt to make serious arguments in favor of it.
We don't need Bioware to tell us of that obvious fact brah.

Let's stop beating around the bush.
The answer is very simple. Renegade players hate aliens and synthetics because BioWare told them to.
BioWare made it clear Renegade players are pro human. They obediently obeyed. Simple as that.
Not all of us did, but I can see from the board that many did. I didn't hate aliens. I didn't hate EDI at all. Why would I hate my ship's computer? She was doing what she could to help the war effort. However, because she had free will we might not agree 100% of the time. Take the Geth issue for example. Try to make peace with Geth VI is not possible so bye bye Geth, and she's not happy.
Given a choice between the survival between humans or an alien species, humans would choose humanity. You can rest assured that if the situation were reversed they would not choose us.

As a person who enjoyes the romances in Atlus games(MC/NPC or NPC/NPC), Biowares romances require massive headcanon to even be called a romance.Seboist wrote...

Well you're dealing in absolutes today. It's really not that simple. I'm a Paragon player, hate synthetics but looove aliens. On the other hand I know a ton of Renegades who are far more tolerant of synthetics.

I usually end up as a Renegade character because I like my Shepard to be punchy and sarcastic. But I choose peace and romance Garus when possible, and complain and moan about Cerberus whenever I can.

Gotta agree with Kaiser. The SR2 is way too small to accommodate 18 squadmates.
Grunt's room is occupied by Javik
Kasumi's room is vacant mostly
Javik's fine
Zaeed's room is potentially rented by Allers
Virmire Survivor's fine
Samara/Morinth's room is occupied by the VS
Legion's room is vacant mostly
Liara's fine
Tali's fine
Jacob's room doesn't even exist anymore
Jack's room is vacant mostly
Thane's fine
Garrus is fine
EDI's fine
Mordin's room is redesigned
Miranda's room is occupied by Liara
James is fine
And Wrex doesn't have a room anymore
So that's like 8 squadmates you would have to create entirely new rooms for, or place in random hallways. Or the bathrooms. God those places need someone.
Simple, the crew simply needs to learn to share... only the Commander needs a room all to himself/herself, and that person can share it with the LI.

Confrontations from crew unity that I find cool to imagine:
James Vega and Jacob Taylor having different weapon opinions in the Hangar/Armory...
Kelly Chambers and Samantha Traynor bickering in the CIC for one thing or another... starting with who belongs on the right hand computer...
James Vega comparing muscle mass and things like that with Grunt in the Hangar/Armory...
Samara and Liara questioning each other's standards... or something... waddya think?
James Vega and Rupert Gardner arguing over what's for dinner/ who has the better recipe...
Ashley and Miranda having a confrontation over what exactly is "proper attire"...
Oh, and after inviting Miranda aboard the Normandy and getting a "yes" from her, as soon you go back on board yourself, you get summoned to the Mess Hall, and at the entrance of the XO cabin, you find Miranda with her bags having a confrontation with the cabin's new resident... you know who...

I would like to manage the "junior crew" more aswell. Maybe upgrade their gear, put them on training missions, send them on relief, simple intelligence gathering missions and support.

Miranda and any one of Grunt, Thane, Samara or Jacob should have been squadmates. I would also argue Kasumi and Zaeed could be viable, but appreciate they were meant as DLC only. Nonetheless, either could have been fit under the same pretense of "hiring them for a job." As for Wrex. Much as I love him, I accept him not being apart of the team given he is rather busy.
Basically, it would have worked if BioWare actually meant ME2 relevant.

Sounds fun and feasible. Reminds me a bit of the multiplayer cameos/gags they had in Citadel DLC.DeinonSlayer wrote...
I'm really starting to like the idea of this dynamic, multiracial war room. Fill it with ME2-style "eavesdrop" conversations which change depending on what happens in your game.
Finish the Tuchanka arc, and two Turians and a Salarian take up residence. Finish the Rannoch arc, and either two Quarians, one Quarian and one Geth platform, or one (larger) Geth show up in there. Sometimes they'll all be in the war room (where conversation is professional), sometimes one will appear in the mess hall (where they speak in more personal terms in regards to how things are going).
Kill a species over Rannoch, and when you step into the war room all conversation (including background "mumble") ceases and everyone silently stares (save for the Geth/Quarians present) in your direction for about twenty seconds before returning attention to their posts. Same, if you make peace but kill Wrex afterwards.Really, it'd probably be only ten or fifteen brief little conversations spread out over the entire game. My kingdom for an unlimited word budget...
- Lose Krogan support, and one of the Turians can be heard talking about collapse on the front lines. Perhaps talk of tension in the ranks if Wreav is in charge of them.
- Kill the Quarians, and someone will talk about how the supply situation is critical or a colony couldn't be evacuated. Save them, and a Turian will talk back and forth with one, coordinating a supply run, then maybe converse in the mess hall after ("my family got airlifted out, I take back every evil thing I said about you" etc).
- Kill the Geth, and someone will talk about how the Turian and Alliance fleets have been spread thin. Save them, and there will be talk of pressure on the Turian fleet being relieved and additional ground troops, then an odd exchange in the mess hall with the platform insisting it doesn't require "down time."
- An Asari or two appearing after the coup attempt, perhaps a conversation after the Monastery mission, condolences after Thessia, that kind of thing.
I know many people reviled them as autodialogue, but I personally felt the sidebar conversations in ME3 were some of the best atmospherics and ambience in the series. Bits that show reactivity to choices would only make it better.

Fail.
Just kidding. I love huge squads, and since most of those characters were established throughout the game, I feel like the last mission should have let you take any survivors.

Citadel DLC gave us all the chars to play with in Armax Arena so I assume BW wanted to do it in the main game but ran out of time.

Hey, she's busy with her students... of course, an Asari who took an oath of celibacy might make a better teacher.

They were a little deceptive, they said I could "partake in one last mission with my old squadmates", but ended up getting only Wrex, Now I will never know what my Clone had to say about my Jack... sob
