Maybe to give the Qunari a more tribal look. I'm ok with them bearing skin with the odd shoulder pad every now and then.

While I don't want them to be naked as they were in DA2, it should be noted that due to horns their armor are probably different from the rest of Thedas. I'd like to see how Iron Bull can use the armour of the Inquisitor or Cassandra.

Armor, at least the plate varierity, is rarely pulled over the head, so I don't really see the horns as the issue at hand here. But rather the fact that Qunari are unusually large, so there wouldn't be any armor forged to fit them. However it being a game, I think it is one of those cases where gameplay takes presedence over lorem and for good reason.

So the Qunari can make dreadnought ships but can't make armor? Or do you mean that there is no armor in Kirkwall that could fit them and no one in Kirkwall to forge them new armor?

Neither of those are what I was saying... I am saying that a Qunari running around in human lands, would naturally find it difficult to find armour that would fit him.
And I don't think that anyone in Kirkwall was ever asked to forge them armour, as I find it hard to believe that the Qunari would stoop so low as to ask for help like that (they don't exactly swim in gold, so I doubt they would be able to pay much).

No. I do this thing called 'suspension of disbelief'.

I never expected them to have armor in this game after they got re-designed in ][.

Maybe Sten and his crew in DA:O had armor on since they wanted to blend in a bit while they were doing their research. Hence sending in non-horned armored Qunari.

I could get behind the shipwreck reason for no armor in DA2.

Although the DLC Qunari are also sans armor of a covering sort (yeah! eye candy for the ladies finally!!!)

So.....all I can come up with is....maybe it's the horns. The horns provide armor protection.

I just thought of something: the units in the Heroes of Dragon Age game level up and get new armor. Perhaps we could see examples of heavier Qunari armor if someone leveled up those Qunari units in that game and took pictures?

In DAO they hadn't really fleshed out the Qunari design yet and the graphics engine was limited. They just decided "To hell with it" and stuck all Qunari made up of Sten clones with full plate armor.

In DA2, a convenient shipwreck provides an excuse for no armor.

I don't ever expect to see current Qunari in plate armor. Besides, plate is not the only possible freaking armor.

But I don't think leather armor or a single breastplate made of something is too much to ask for.
Leather armor might fit in more with the current Qunari design.

I put it in the category of bad crap in DA2 that if I ignore won't show up again in future games. They also said the same battle cries in combat that Sten did but it was awfully done.

Par Vollen is a hot climate. You want to wear in plate armor?
Qunari skin is tougher than human skin, like leather.
The Qunari there were NOT a fully outfitted army. A codex entry in DAO describe a Qunari army in Shining Steel plate armor.
They were shipwrecked.

Aye. As far as I can remeber the Kadan-Fe mercenaries in DAO were all wearing silver or bronze full plate armour.

Replaying the second game, I have found it quite strange that the Qunari wear little armor. It seems strange that they'd use little and cover themselves in war paint and yet are the same race/culture to (presumably) invent cannons and gunpowder.

What are your thoughts?

I don't see your point.  If you look at our own history, the rise of gun powder and the decline of armor go hand in hand.

Yeah, the codex in DAO describes their initial invasion as waves of steel-clad giants.  I wonder what happened to them all?

They put them in a safe for good keeping. Subtropical island. It would be pretty hard to walk those lands in plate armor.

You'll see them when they invade again.

It's equally strange to see fully armored town guard everywhere - plate armor = prohibitively expensive.

DA2 generally doesn't seem to use full plate, though - the shoulders and arms seem like they're mostly protected by leather with bits of metal stuck to them. Which since the joints are the difficult bits, seems like it'd bring the cost down a fair bit.

I don't think DA:O generally gave guards full plate either, going for one of the medium armours or something.

Well, one reason armor went out of fashon at the end of our own medieval era was it didn't protect well against cannon or gun shot.

It made me mad because whenever I ask for mage ROBES for my fem PCs that perhaps show a wee bit of cleavage (like almost all fem Mage NPC in DA2 do AND Morrigan from DAO) everyone shouts me down because if they showed more skin they would be "unrealistic". (I suppose only I have to worry about reality as all the people mentioned above don't) Dont even get be started on Isabela!

BUT no one says anything about the mostly bare chested Qunari male WARRIORS having outrageously high AC.

Another DA double standard. Lord forbid we let our female MAGE players show a wee of cleavage but our males can walk around bare chested. And I am not talking about jiggling boobs or anything but just allowing us to at least acknowledge our Female PCs might want to look a wee bit feminine once in a while. Regardless of BW's excuses its just unfair. It not like we want that to be the ONLY option but at least let them have a choice. Funny how that word "choice" is always an issue that someone wants to take from women, even in fantasy worlds.

Meh. I find the change tasteless. Sten reflected a type of imposed but tranquil order that qunari dogma somewhat attractive. Contrast that the brutes and bullies they've come.

Who knows. Mayber their chest muscles are harder than steel and the don't need any armour that would only slow them down. Maybe it's arrogance. Maybe it's tradition. Maybe they just count on their enemies being unable to do anything but swoon.

On a personal level, I have absolutely no problem with them running around bare-chested. No problem at all.
