[Gambit One]

 Before I start, let me acknowledge something. When I say I HATE Tali, it is different then when I say, "I hate Subject Zero". When I say, "I hate subject zero", I'm almost admitting she is a good character. I acknowledge that SuZe is an interesting character, its just that her attitude doesn't fit mine.

However, when I say that I hate Tali, I mean something completely different. I think the character Tali is so freakin' pointless. I don't mind the Quarians, but Tali makes me angry. Any other Quarian squad member would have been perfect. She is just uninteresting and unimportant in Mass Effect 1, and has next to no tie with the story (other than giving you Saren's evidence). It makes me angry that she of all people was brought back to the team. 

What baffles me even further is people who want an LI for this freak? Or even worse, FIND HER ATTRACTIVE?! He is a weird humanoid thing with 3 webbed toes and 3 long weird fingers. Not to mention she wears a gigantic robot mask. How can anyone claim her cute? Its kind of scary TBH.

Maybe I should be happy she was added to your squad in Mass Effect 2. Now I can kill her.

Yes. She's unimportant in Mass Effect one. Oh, that's right, she gives you the evidence that proves Saren's guilt, makes you a Spectre, gives you the Normandy, and basically starts of the mission. Yep, she's completely useless...

When I first played the game, I tolerated her. Non-existent characterization, and every other squaddie was more useful in combat (in my playing style). I didn't dislike her, but she was my least favorite squaddie.

Since joining and participating in the online fandom, her creepy fans have managed to lower my liking of her to outright disdain levels. Should I get the game, Tali and the quarians will end as badly off as possible in my Renegade playthroughs.

I strongly dislike her character, and it doesn't help there are millions of Tali fans chanting her name over and over. Enough to make anyone hate her if they were only neutral in the first place. Sometimes you just want some peace and quiet, but then the prophets of Tali come to your door and try the foot in the door technique to try give you their pamphlet.

So my hatred of Tali is proportional to the number of Tali fans, multiplied by how loud they are.

If the population of Tali fans ever drops to a stable level I will probably go back to once again being amused by how Tali has such a moderate following, but not hate her character.

She's likable. That said, she really didn't have much of a personality other then when you pick her up in the Citadel and when you ask her about her father. She's a walking codex entry on quarians.

Hopefully ME2 will fix that.

I don't mind a character having lots of fans. Wrex, Alistair, Morrigan... They are all popular, but their fandoms aren't creepy or obnoxious.

I might have more anger at the unjustified hyping of the character, more then the character itself. However, I didn't like the character to begin with.

The OP is entitled to his opinion.  I don't remotely disdain him from holding it and I think he's perfectly capable of judging who he likes or not in his squadmates.  However, if he wants to know a couple of factors about why someone may like Tali.  Here's a bit.

1. Tali is the only one who seems enthusiastic about the Normandy, you, and your mission.  She's an ego booster when everyone else seems so damned depressed onboard the ship.

2. People tend to find Tali's hourglass figure attractive rather than focus on the gas mask or toes.  She has a skin-tight bodysuit let's not forget.

3. People like the accent.

4. She's basically Imoen from Baldur's Gate.  The cute sidekick.

BTW, even her fans include people weirded out by her crazy devotees.

She actually contributes just as much to the plot as anyone else. It's just tthat it all happens up front, and for the rest of the game she is just a squad member.

For me, the character is attractive because Liz Szroka is adorable, and that comes through in her voice. I find the whole concept of the Quarians interesting, and I like listening to her talk about her people. She actually has more information to convey then any other characts, who basically just tell stories.

It is perfectly fine to say you find the character uninteresting, just remember there are a lot of people who do not.

I don´t hate her but also don´t love her and can´t see why so much love for her character. I would rather have Ashley back than her. Also, i agree with you, don´t know why people find her attractive or want to have a romance with her.

Hate is not taken in the literal sense. We are using the word to compare the characters. It is all relative.

I think Tali is alright, i just hate all the love for her hips! Why would you like a caracter just becuase she has nice hips? It's like how alot of people only like Miranda all of a sudden after seeing a little bit of skin.

Why would I hate Tali? She barely has much to say in the game once you hear all about the Qunari and her father and such. I don't get why people have strong feelings about her one way or the other. She is a pretty bland character in the game IMO.

Considering the Geth are some of the major enemies of ME she, as a member of the race who created the Geth, could hardly be considered unneeded or not having a plot. Considering she is like the only Quarian you ever really get any contact with, you can hardly claim that other of her species are more interesting.
