I hate Garrus. I don't mind the fact that he was underdeveloped and rather bland. However, he always came across as a hypocrite to me. He talks a good game of wanting to cricumvent the system and do whatever he has to to get results, but he backs down too quick whenever Shephard says "bad boy!". If he had, just once, argued with me to fight for that which he believed in, I would have respected him more.
And that's not to say that I wanted him to disobey orders, or break rank. I wanted him to be more passionate about his ideals.
There... you've been proven otherwise.

Ok.... If you dug deep enough with Ashley, she wasn't closed and she wasn't xenophobic....you HAD to get to know her. These issues that she had were just the surface of her emotions, of her feelings for matters.
Xenophobia- Ok, Ashley didn't like working with Aliens AT FIRST. When the mission got going, you could persuade her into thinking "You know what?" "We have to work with them, even though I might still be angry at the Turians for my Grandfathers shortcomings."
The deal is, Ash got past it. She grew as the story progressed. She was REAL.
Tali, I'm not going to judge her too harshly from the first one, but looking at the first one, I'm sorry people....but SHE as an individual was EXTREMELY boring. Her lore of the Quarians was amazing....but no one should really be like, Oh! I want a Tali Romance, She's Awesome, I love her!
Really people, We know more about Miranda's personality than we do Tali, and Tali was even IN the first game.
But saying that, I like Tali as a friend, and She is always welcome in my squad. But like I said before in another thread. This next game is her time to show us what she is really like, and I think she will be cool!
I would say that the reason why Ashley got more character development is because Ashley was a romance. If you recall, you really couldn't change her mind about aliens UNLESS you romanced her. If you were a FemShep and you wanted to soften Ash, you were SOOL.
In fact, that's one of the reasons why I think a Tali romance would be good - it would flesh out Tali's personality and backstory more, or at least give Bioware more reason to do so (it looks like they have in ME2, whether Talimance is in or not).

Garrus was a pushover and Tali was a walking codex, next to Liara. Basically, those three sucked big time. Wrex was awesome though.
All of them are young, except Wrex. Apparently you develop some kinda "kick-ass" sense of humor when you live that long. And also they lack the experience Wrex has. That's what makes him so cool.

people keep saying that Tali was pointless, while in my opinion, she had more of a reason for joining Shepard than even Wrex did.

Apart from those hips, if I get to use dem hips, then no but if she remains germophobic and whatnot. I agree.
Also, I hope there is a "mute" button on her helmet so we can use dem hips without having to learn the last 500 years of quarian history.

2. In Mass Effect 2 she achieved much more intriguing personality and character, and suddenly I started to really love her - she is a perfect female personality for that matter, and her suit added a romantic mystery about her...
...Until I listened closely to certain conversations, showing her hatred for the Geth (with seems to stem from her father), despite the fact that Quarians started a war with the Geth by trying to destroy them.
As soon as I got to know this, well... I started to hate her
3. A bit about Garrus (since he was mentioned): I liked him since the first Mass Effect because he always was an unusual character - neither he was a merc (Wrex), nor a cop (technically he was, but always hated the restrictions), nor a religious fan (Ashley), nor an asari.
In ME2 Garrus gained even deeper personality than before, and for now he and Legion are the only characters (from main crew) I really love

That being said, I wasn't Tali's biggest fan in ME1, not because she was useless or weak, but because she had no personality apart from Quarian codex entry. It was interesting and all, but I never got a clear personality from Tali apart from young and smart. Which is fine, but not very engaging. ME2 Tali was a vast improvement, though I do have misgivings about her attitudes toward the geth. It's hard to blame her, but after talking to Legion, I feel so bad for the geth. Their only crime was in trying to survive as sapient beings. Poor things

But in ME2.. She's brilliant, couldn't love her more there. One of my favorite characters in ME saga.
And even if I don't have anykind of suit fetish.. She does seem very cute in her own alien way.. ^.^
Edit: You guys are just racists for her voice through the helmet. Not like it's her own choice, so the poor girl alone because of something that she can't do anything for.
And for the original poster..
Yes, she has a very minor role in ME1, and I also disliked that.. But you definetly don't want to kill her in ME2, because this time she actually has bigger role than most other characters.. ;o

In ME1 she was on her pilgrimage, so she was exactly this.Naehilus wrote...
1. To be honest, I was neutral to Tali in ME1 (with a bit of softness for her) - she was like a curious young woman traveling with Shepard to see interesting places, experience adventures; Tali was like a traveler in the first game.
showing her hatred for the Geth (with seems to stem from her father), despite the fact that Quarians started a war with the Geth by trying to destroy them.
The Quarians created the Geth. But the Geth became too powerful so they had to stop them. Eventually the Geth took over the Quarian homeworld and forced the Quarians to live on ships. Its natural that young Quarians would dislike them.
Tali has more backstory and intrigue than almost all characters. The people who say she is bland obviously aren't reading the codexes and taking it all in.
