Hate is maybe a strong word, but I dislike Tali. I think the main reason was in Mass Effect 1 you rarely got armour upgrades for her, so if you take her in a mission, she gets killed super fast while everyone else barely has a scratch. I really don't understand all her fandom either, seeing as there are way better characters in the series.

Tali's knowledge and overall distrust for many things make her imo a vital piece of the ME World, her character is done very well.

I didn't like her in the first game and thought her romance (and her fans) were just plain creepy but after playing me2 she's just about the most intresting char on the ship. I won't let some fan base effect my opinion on char's.

Tali is subject follows many prejudices common to her people - her complete loyalty to flotilla is the most dangerous one; Tali blindly follows her father's steps by thinking that Geth are the ones responsible for the Morning War, and blaming them for most of the trouble her retarded people got themselves into.

I favor Legion (reminds me of myself), Garrus (he justifies the need for revenge) and Mordin (funniest guy in Mass Effect)

I agree. Her conversation with Jacob after her rescue was fantastic.

Ya I like Tali a lot, she was one of my favorite characters. But all these crazy Tali fanatics make me not like Tali as much anymore.

She was a pretty average character in ME1, far too 'devoted' to Shepard for my liking. In ME2 she seems to have grown up a bit, but is still too easily swayed by Shepard's opinion, not the kind of character that appeals to me. The LI side of it is just weird since she is more like a little sister then anything else.

Also yeah her rabid fans make it easy to go from neutral to hate. I'll be severely pissed if the viral campaign to have Tali feature prominently in ME3 causes the writers to compromise the story just to please them.

Why would someone else's opinion of a video game character impact you?

Yep. Totally pointless. Not like the quarian vs. geth plot isn't super-important. Not like you need an excellent engineer for your team. And Tali cetainly doesn't have more fans than any other single character. Yep, useless.

Oh and btw I don't care if she has chicken legs, she's still shapely, hippy, and hourglass-figured, so yes she is hot.

Her character is okay for what it is, it isn't particularly good compared to others like Miranda, Mordin or Garrus however (particularly with regard to the journeys each of those go through and the resulting changes to their character).   Without getting into spoiler territory, she doesn't grow at all during the story, sure she has to deal with some fairly major emotional things but the failure of those events to really change her as a character makes her seem shallow.

I believe an opportunity was lost with Tali in ME2, because her loyalty quest is quite a good one, but that lack of growth just doesn't sit well with me.

So because tali didnt go all emo like garrus about losing someone then shes not growing as a character?
You know some people can actually handle things like that without going full retardImage IPB
Its all a matter of willpower and the personality of the person.

I've been reading Mock Effect recently that parodies Tali's role in ME1, it's a hilarious read.

Tali is one of my favourite characters in ME2, she seems more human than the humans sometimes which leads to a deeper relationship. She doesn't need 'fixing' like Miranda and Jack seem to, but still is still vulnerable which I think is the reason a lot of guys are attracted to her as opposed to Miranda or Jack.

A reaction to a situation doesn't equal character development.  It is how that reaction impacts future choices/perceptions.  That is just one example to how a character can grow of course.

Tali's character doesn't seem to react to the world around her, now if she were old and grey and heavily set in her ways then that would be believable; but she is young and impressionable, as shown by her continual clinging nature to Sheperd, and other strong figures in her life (her father).

I liked her in mass effect 1. Now with her new characterization, I like her that much more.

And several characters have creepy fan bases in this game... like Garrus.... And the Garrus fans are creepier than the Tali fans.

You can't let a few fanatics affect your opinion of someone. You start doing that then we might as well close down the NFL especially Green Bay and the "Cheese heads"...

I think she's okay, but I don't like her in particular. There's not much about her that I found particularly interesting in ME1, and now that she's been turned into a love interest, I feel even more ambivalent. In all honesty, I've always felt that the fanbase for her in ME1 was a product of her being the youngest seeming female character, drawn in a way where she had big hips and a costume that emphasized her crotch. It seemed to me that her popularity was simply a closet indication of the desire of certain males to sexualize teen women. Reminded me of the blue character in KOTOR (what was her name?) that was obviously supposed to be a younger girl but whom so many guys wanted to sex.

Shepard is what, 10 years older than Tali? If I were Shep, I wouldn't find her that interesting, in light of her youth, two toes and three fingers. But, to each their own.

I don't hate Tali but I found her pretty useless as a companion in ME and virtually never took her off the ship. I found her personaility likeable enough but there's nothing I would find attractive would she be translated from pixels into flesh and blood. Basically I saw Tali the same way I saw Mission Vao in KotOR.

Now Liara on the other hand I really can't stand, ironically for the same reasons Veex used above (I don't know if it was about Tali but that description pretty much sums up my feelings about Liara). Man I wish I could have chosen her for Virmire..

x2 -- We must have the exact same taste in companions. The subtle whine in Liara's voice as she was always trying to explain herself annoyed me to no end. And I thought of Tali exactly like Mission: okay but almost a nod to bringing a kid along.

Want a reason to hate carth? How about "I am again the dark lord of the sith who screwed up your life. I have chosen this path."

Carth: Flees in terror.

Biggest coward I've seen in a RPG in a long time. For all his talk of revenge for the betrayal, he seems to not have much gusto when the second one comes. It isn't about winning. It isn't about defeating Revan. He knows he can't. But he doesn't have the guts, the strength to sacrifice himself to make that important statement that anyone can understand.

"When you kill me, it will be while I spit in your face!"

Carth wasn't even a man, he was a child.

I'll take Tali's praise, history, shyness, and backstory over Carth's
I don't trust you.
I don't trust you.
"Hey carth you ok buddy?"
I don't trust you.
My wife and son.
I don't trust you.
"But I'm trying hard to prove myself to you as a friend and as a soldier Carth."
I don't trust you.

I wanted to put a blaster to his head but chances are I would have missed his brains.

Lets face facts. Most people don't hate tali because she's underdeveloped. Impossible to claim this with a straight face when you take into account the second game. (Yes, i am aware when the OP was)

Some people just HATE that others like her. That's twisted.
Let me demonstrate something.
"Hey I hear you like carth."
"Yeah he's pretty cool and deep."
"More power to ya."
Carth belonged in the game for better or worse. Some liked him some hated him Like me. He had his place and part to play and the game would have been the worse without him. Tali is the same way. Though with way more likers than haters.

Tali was my favourite character, mainly because she is quarian and i like the quarians because they are unique and i think gas masks are cool :P. But as with a lot of people on this forum i don't really feel Tali is so great anymore because of the creepers out ther o.O.

she's tolerable but i do hate the fact that even with the at times wonkie A.I. in ME2, she is the dumbest. hands-down she gets dropped faster and more often than any other team member. I seriously need to get mordin in the lab to fix her weak as shiz immune system so she doesn't die in half a bullet anymore. it would be nice to have a combat drone in my fight for at least 5 seconds without her dying.

I don't actually suppose one should not like/hate the character based on his/her fandom. You should evaluate the character itself (his/her actions and morality) and make a decision based on that.

P.S: Garrus isn't emo - emo would most likely try to kill himself rather than kill the one who made him suffer!

I like Tali.  She's got a well developed character.

Then I saw the obsessed nutjobs who want to marry her.

Then I realized that EVERY character is going to have X number of nutjobs like that supporting them

Then I walked away.

I'm not letting nutjobs influence who I like or don't like.  They can be weird on their own time.

I like or dislike characters based on the content of their character, not the colour of the tinfoil hats their obsessed fans wear :o

Tali is the best character in the game. See? Thats an opinion just like the topic poster's, and cannot be argued one way or the other. So why this thread continues is beyond me. All the people who like Tali need to stop commenting, it gets you nowhere. All the people who hate Tali need to stop making threads about it, you are outnumbered and guess what, it gets you nowhere either. It's like Leonidas convincing Xerxes to bow down to HIM. Move on people, nothing much to see here.
