What got you into Mass Effect?
What prompted you to try Multiplayer, did you play Single first. or was Multiplayer your first ME experience? (An interesting perspective quite different from mine if so.)

***

My roommates got me into ME1 on PC. Played that through probably five or six times. A friend of a friend (Sort of a frenemy really) wound up working on ME2 in cinematic design iirc, he'd throw us tidbits about the drastic changes made to the game. Finally ME2 came out, we got some cheap copies off him, and played the hell out of it.

Finally ME3 news started cropping up, I remember hearing there was going to be a multiplayer, we tried the demo, and I remember specifically thinking "Multiplayer!? It'll be f'ck'n HORRIBLE. No way I'm touching it."

Me and the roommates burned through ME3SP, then we all decided to try some MP games. We got our leet N7's up to about 300 and then we got sick of the RNGTrollstore and we all quit.

Eventually I started up SP again when the Extended Cut came out (Still have yet to finish that... lawls.) and tried a few multiplayer games when I noticed new characters to unlock. Then a few more... then even more. Then I stopped playing the SP portion and went straight to MP whenever the game was on...

Which eventually led me to BSN trying to find out information on some bugs I had noticed.

The rest is history.

I had an Xbox buddy I had known for years talk me into it. I skipped the demo while he played it a ton and he kept saying how cool it was. I was getting ME3 anyways for the story since I had played and beat both ME1 and ME2, but didn't think I was going to be interested in a ME multiplayer game. After playing and beating the story once, I decided to jump on ME3 for the Galaxy Rating and to play with my buddy. Little did I know I was going to be as hooked as I was, but it was at least somewhat worth it since I met more cool people in ME3 that I still keep in touch with than I had in 4 or so years of PvP games (not that I didn't meet cool people playing those, but I only keep in touch with like 6 of them after knowing them that entire time.

I bought the games not a year ago, so ME as in Shepard's story was finished, i knew there would not be anything new. Played trough the three games in a hundred hours over two weeks.
I then proceded to quit for a month before doing another run.
Having enjoyed the games a lot i started my rampant lurking of bsn.
Doing it convinced me to buy all the dlc and there we go, i'm doing a full run again.

At this point i had done everything there was to be done in SP but could'nt let go of such a wonderful experience so i tried the only thing left... I played 100 hours in two weeks again...

My roomie suggested i play me 2 for my first rpg as i was familliar with shooters....chose the engineer shep and finished the game.....the story and setting captured me in a way no game did....went back to me1...progressed to me2 just in time for me3 release....

I got into mp to improve my ems early on to get the best possible ending, but stopped playing as it repeatedly kept crashing till my drivers got updated, then with my adept somehow survived my reapers game ( and my first banshee encounter ) and never stopped mp ( did two sp playthroughs but did not finish my 3rd )

Tried the Multiplayer demo and instantly realized that this was the game I was searching for my entire life. It has everything that I like about gaming and with time it has gotten better and better and the next installment in the series is literally the only game I am looking forward to. Not perfect but my favorite game of all time. The single-player was good too as a bonus and I was already a huge Mass Effect fan so that helped me like it even more because that meant I can spend much more time in the Mass Effect universe.

Back in 2007 I saw an article and fell in love with the design of the aliens and the Citadel in particular. I actually bought my Xbox to be able to play Mass Effect and Star Wars: The Force Unleashed (had a shitty PC back then). Then proceeded to play through ME1 8 times before ME2 came out (plus 4 times after it).

I was disappointed when I heard that an MP mode will be included, actually. Then I fell in love with it in the demo days and still play it regularly since then.

My nephew had a copy (and HATED) the first Mass Effect for the Xbox. I played it and loved it, doing a second play through almost immediately. I was about a quarter of the way through my 3rd playthrough when I decided I should take a break and play something else. My nephew kind of came around and decided to give it another chance and took his game back. When ME 2 came out, I was kinda broke but a friend at work let me borrow his copy, and I played it and returned it after the first playthrough.

I purchased ME3 shortly after it came out and picked up my own copies of the first two (before the trilogy was released as a set). I tried the MP before I had finished the single player--before I had encountered Banshees and Ravagers in the SP campaign.

Since then, I've read most of the comics, all the novels, watched Paragon Lost and am working on another run of the trilogy, this time with all of the DLC.

I bought an Xbox 360 for basically two reasons: Ninja Gaiden II and Mass Effect. I knew what the former was about.. But I had no real idea what Mass Effect would play like until I got it and loaded the disc. Wow! I was absolutely floored. I was hopelessly hooked from that first exchange with Nihilus and Anderson on the Normandy. It was all the wishes about a Sci-fi RPG I had been silently making for years realized, and on top of this there was a ton of replayability. I have been a loyal fan until the third installment. Multiplayer is awesome, but the import issues and R/B/G ending soured me on a new Mass Effect. It was an incredible ride. Thanks Biower

Going from ME2 to ME1... bet you just loved the inventory system. :pinched: (One of the better improvements from ME1 to 2 imho.)

I played ME2 first. I played it for the first time literally two months before ME3 was released, then I bought ME3 and played Single Player for about three months before I broke into MP. I wasn't really much for online gaming until that point. And now more than a year later...here I am. #FML

My wife introduced me to the serie. Started from ME2 sp then played ME1 and was hooked. The ME1 was just so ridiculously good. Played the ME2 again (imported me1 character) and finished it just in time for ME3 release. Played multiplayer first only for max war assets but this year after finishing the whole sp saga fourth time I decided to give mp a new shot. Got hooked and here we are 700 hours later. Simply best game serie ever.

My local store's guys are pretty cool, and when I went t buy ME 2 used for kicks, the sales guy insisted that I wait until they found a copy of ME 1 before I buy it.

A couple of weeks later, someone sold them a copy of ME 1, and I bought both that day.

I played ME 3 SP for a week after release until I figured I should jump on MP and raise that Galactic Readiness. After the first Weekend Op, I was an MP player, and only touched SP again to complete DLCs, and Insanity.

It was beyond crazy when i first saw the inventory model...also the gameplay was here and there but the great squad mates and storyline amazed me.

My first experience with the Mass Effect series was when I was looking for a new game to entertain myself with the summer before ME2 came out and I came across Mass Effect 1 so I looked into it a bit and thought it looked like it might be fairly interesting. However, I decided not to get it because the armor shown on the cover looked silly due to how little it looked like it could actually protect someone.

After Mass Effect 2 came out I saw one of my room mates playing the Normandy destruction portion, and after I saw the sequence where you exit the lower decks and you can see the planet through the holes in the hull I knew I had to play the game. I then purchased the game, played it, and really enjoyed it. Since I didn't really get some of the stuff that was mentioned about the first game I then picked it up, played it, and really enjoyed it as well. The planetary explorations in ME1 are still one of my favorite things in the series since I get a classic science fiction feeling from them.

Since I enjoyed Mass Effect 1 &2 so much and certainly got my money's worth from both of them I knew I would be getting the third installment. When I heard there was going to be multiplayer in it I was more than skeptical (I guessed it would end up being absolutely terrible) but once I gave it a try during the demo I realized it was quite fun and I have been playing fairly regularly ever since.

I'd heard of Mass Effect as an example of decision-based role-playing. One day I was at Gamestop and saw Mass Effect 2, and figured what the hell (that's after I asked about getting the first one but PS3).

My first playthrough was weird, I kept running into all these people I was supposed to already know. On subsequent playthroughs that got better.

When 3 came out, I had it on release day. Loved the single player. Only tried the multiplayer to get a better galactic readiness score. I didn't expect to like it. I didn't like the MP in Assassin's Creed or Uncharted, both games I really loved.

But I found myself really enjoying the MP in Mass Effect. In fact, I learned so much playing the MP that it made me a lot better at the single-player. I can actually use a sniper rifle. I actually know what biotic and tech combos are (I played both ME2 and ME3 without ever knowing!)

I've been playing ME3 since the day it came out, and I've not yet stopped.

It was I think 2 years and a couple of months ago. My irl friend told me that there is this awesome game, that feels like a mix of Gears Of War & Star Trek. And since I love both franchises I decided to try it out. I was surprised how addictive it was.

As for ME3 , I played the campaign 2 times (ME2 SP = 14 times). I was curious how the whole "co-op / horde mode" idea would work in this game... and then it started.

Mass Effect 1 because BioWare. Took the week after release off from work, since i figured it would take a good while to finish it. Picked it up from the postoffice on friday around noon. Played the entire day, and the entire saturday and sunday and beat the game early monday morning.Clocked in at 38 hours over a three day period.   :D

Loved the series since then. Best there is!

After that it was only natural to get the two sequels.

As for Multiplayer, I kinda figured i had to play some MP in order to get all the achievements in the game.
Little did i know that i would enjoy it so much.
First match ever: Human Soldier against Cerberus on Condor.

To date, the Mass Effect games are the only retail games in which i have gotten 100% of the achievements in.

I was late to the party. Needed a new game to play and saw ME2 had great reviews, so I bought it and ME1 so I could get into the story from the beginning.

Getting ME3 was a no-brainer, but I didn't care for MP until I'd finished the campaign several times over. That was a huge mistake.

I am one of the older gamers and enjoy RPG games, purchased ME back in 2007, bought each installment as they came out, in April of last year the kids were home from university and my son encouraged me to try multiplayer so I bough an XB Live subscription and never looked back, have enjoyed the online experience very much and the friends I have made along the way.

Can't remember if it was xbox magazine or pc gamer but there was an article back in early development of ME1 that talked about infinite randomly generated worlds and a tentacled alien on your ship XD followed it since then.
Being playing MP with occasional breaks since the demo. I think it's the ME setting more than anything that keeps me coming back.

I was very much into Dragon Age a few years before ever touching ME. Origins was the first Bioware game I'd ever played and of course I had constantly heard of mass effect but never managed to play it up until a few months before ME3 came out, when I "borrowed" ME1 from the brother of my girlfriend at the time. I was HOOKED.

Went ahead and bought the second game without any hesitation, imported a save downloaded from that one website since I moved from Xbox to PC. Must've completed at least 3 playthroughs within a span of two weeks. I was curious about the multiplayer just as I was getting towards the end of the single player, and it all escalated from there. I played so much mp that I actually forgot to finish my first SP playthrough until the extended cut came out.

Saw the trailer for ME1 back in the days, got hooked and downloaded it. Didn't play it till a year and a half ago, when I was ill at home with nothing better to do...

And so, the addiction started.

I caught glimpse of the ME1 controversy at the time, so I decided to buy it and see what it was all about. Addiction ensued. Bought each installment as it was released.
When I got ME3, I realized I had lost my savegames, so I replayed 1 and 2 to rebuild the character. As a result, I was late to the MP party.
I started MP just to raise EMS. Haven't touched SP since then, exception made for DLCs.

I got both ME2 & ME3 because of positive critical ratings (no ME1 on Playstation at the time). Like others, started MP to raise the war assets and complete the trophies. MP turned out having more replay value than anything I'd ever played! I've tried MP in other 'cannot be mentioned' games (PvP/horde mode types) and got totally turned off to the more experienced players burning newcomers at every turn. ME3 MP did it right!
