Much like ViaNegativa, I started life here as a Dragon Age: Origins fan. It was my first BioWare game and I was in love. Joined BSN during that time as well. I had, of course, heard about the Mass Effect series and when I realized the same developer that made my beloved DA:O had made ME, I thought about trying it. But I didn't for a long time because lolPS3. At that time, all PS3 had was ME2 and no hope on the horizon of ever getting ME1, and I was concerned about jumping into a planned trilogy halfway through. I avoided it for a while.

Then curiosity go the better of me and I grabbed a used copy of ME2. I was hooked; it also sort of reawakened the old Star Trek fan in me from when I was a kid. LOL Preordered ME3 and couldn't wait.

I played the SP campaign until what felt like close to the end, at which point I went online for a few MP games to raise my galactic readiness. Only other online game I'd ever played before was Motorstorm, an arcade racing game, which I'd loved. I was lukewarm to this MP at first, mostly because I was flailing around wondering why I was doing so miserably.

Finished the SP campaign. Decided to play a bit more MP. And eventually just got hooked. So badly that I went and bought ME1 for my laptop to finally experience the story first-hand... then, naturally, the ME Trilogy pack for PS3 got announced a few months later. LOL

I mostly stay here in the MP forum because a) I love this MP so much and B) the DA side was so hateful and toxic after DA2 (which I didn't outright hate like everyone else) and the ME SP side was so hateful and toxic after the ME3 endings (which, again, I didn't hate outright like everyone else), so... yeah, MP is where it's at. DAO first. I actually found BSN thanks to some technical issues I was having with that game and getting that sorted. Stuck around for the discussions threads on that.

Then picked up ME1 on Steam, then ME2. Played the crap out of those. Then ME3. Loved the MP ever since the demo days.

Played DA2, did not like, never bought the DLC or anything.

What got you into Mass Effect?

Steam sale on ME 1 & 2 bundle - wouldn't have bothered (didn't really fancy the idea of Dragon Age in space) but I'd heard good things about them and for about £15 for the pair (IIRC) I figured I'd give them a go.

That was probably around Christmas 2011 I guess and I've pretty much played nothing but Mass Effect games since, bit of XCOM, Civ5, Total War - but mostly Mass Effect (almost 2000 hours in ME3 alone according to my profile).

What prompted you to try Multiplayer, did you play Single first. or was
Multiplayer your first ME experience? (An interesting perspective quite
different from mine if so.)

... and the multiplayer because it was there *shrugs*

Gave it a whirl after my first SP play through of ME3... playing co-op horde mode made a pleasant change of pace down from TF2 or Counter Strike, kinda relaxing.

My Xbox 360 came bundled with the ME1 when I bought it in 2009, I got up to Shepard becoming a Spectre when my idiot dog knocked over my Xbox and destroyed the disc. Last year I saw the trilogy pack in a JB Hi-Fi and thought why not? Those games utterly consumed my last summer and I regret nothing. I didn't get into MP that much because I was too cheap to pay for Xbox Live.

My best friend was a fan of ME but I didn't even know about this game. So, last year, he gave me the first two games. I didn't liked ME1, but loved ME2. Sadly, he couldn't gave me the third game, the disc was broken.
I bought ME3 on xbox, played it, didn't really like it. Nonetheless, I tried the MP, because my friend was fond of it. We actually never played together, even if I gave him my disc 2.
It is my first experience with multiplayer I actually loved. I loved it so much I even bought the trilogy on PC to be able to play without the expensive xbox live.

Now, I love the SP and I have almost 750 hours logged into MP. It is by far the game I played the most and I still love it. In more than one year, it is the only game I have played with Bioshock Infinite.
I am now a bigger Mass Effect's fan than my friend, who didn't play since his disc broke.

Developer's dream : everybody here has a personal and emotional history with the game :).
Me too. I played ME1 late cause I was searching for a new game (far for soccer) and had great memories of bioware Kotor.
Then ME2 was a real pleasure, and me3 a no brainer, even pay for it ;).
Enjoyed the SP a lot, and got to try the mp cause it was there. Took me over a year of MP to come here regularly :).

Before the first game came out I had a friend talk to me about it. I looked around for some info and saw some of the art design as well as hearing about the general concept of the game (not to mention I was a fan of other Bioware games). I bought ME1 a few days after its release and was mesmerized from the beginning.

I then proceeded to purchase ME2 right at launch, and I even preordered ME3 (which I never preorder so it was that big a deal to me). The actual MP I first tried during the demo because I had already bought BF3 so I had early access to the MP. I was addicted after the first game I played.

As for DA: I originally bought DAO because of the blood dragon armor promotion for ME2, and because I was a fan of Bioware in general. DA2 I didn't buy until a few months after it came out, and while I was disappointed in a lot of aspects of that game I still found the combat enjoyable and the story had some great moments even if the quest system and environments were recycled out the ass.

A friend begged me to get ME3 to play the multiplayer with him. I ordered it and while it was on it's way I watched videos on youtube of ME1 and ME2. Then played the multiplayer a little with him first, then finished the singleplayer. I got ME1 and ME2 a while later.

Nothing unusual...

Downloaded top Game of the week on Torrent that was ME2

It hooked me on the ME Universe, then I bought the first one, imported to 2 and then imported to 3

Played the SP Campaign of ME3 and about to finish, to increase my Galactic Readiness Rating, I went to MP. Nowadays, I play mostly MP, but I still play SP.

I grabbed ME1 off a budget shelf sometime late 2009, but did not even install it until about November 2010. Pretty quickly it used up about 110% of the time I have for gaming, which is not all that much (so I mostly play mainly one game at a time).

About 15 Minutes after saving the galaxy for the first time around Christmas 2010 I was downloading ME2 digital maximum edition from steam. That game was fantastic, easily the best single player experience I´d had since the original Deus Ex about 10 years earlier. Spent a whopping 300 hrs. with muliple playthroughs and all DLCs until ME3.

Didn´t care at all for multiplayer at first, only tried it to get max readiness for the SP endings. It´s still strange to see that I have now put over 700 hours into a relatively simple horde mode online shooter. But all the variety makes it still fun, on most days I may be able to squeeze in about 2-3 quick matches, so there is still lots of stuff to do.

Two of my best RL friends also started playing recently and it´s been a ton of fun to just play some quick matches with them and have a chat. They have never even played any ME SP campaigns, I already envy them a little bit for their future experience to do it all for the first time.

I've followed Bioware games since BG1 came out (stalking Beerfish :) ). I was initially sceptical about Mass Effect 1, but ended up getting it while waiting for DA:O to come out, and was hooked by the whole classic Sci Fi feel of it (the only thing that actually got weaker with the later installments). I then got ME2 the week it came out, had a love/hate relationship with it (better combat, worse RPG). Delayed getting ME3 because of the ____storm surrounding the endings (endings, ah yes, we have dismissed that claim).

I expected MEMP to be a disaster, and only tried it once I was bored with SP. But - its awesome. I love the fact that you never know if its going to be easymode (good squad) or hard (bad squad), it just feels fresh all the time. Plus after 8 months I'm still slowly improving. Still just a scrubby PUG though :)

It was always about the story to me. When I first heard about ME1 before it was released I was hooked to the story.

I was in college when ME1 came out, I used to have a lot of free times back then. I borrowed the game from one of my friends and that was it. The voice acting and the variety of classes and gameplay attracted me the most. And I actually liked riding the MAKO and exploring unknown planets. RPG and shooting in the same box, that's a pretty tasty recipe.

Bought ME2 and ME3 as soon as those came out.

As for MP, I was really looking forward to playing that; tried the demo and liked it. It was also my first true multiplayer experience of any games.

Got ME2 when BestBuy had it for 20 bucks in autumn 2011. My first play through was without Revelation and as sterlingPhoenix had said, weird. Eventually I read the play through of ME1 and replayed then hell out of ME2 while waiting for ME3.

I only touched MP because I wanted to level up my Galactica readiness and get the "breath" option when I was playing Priority:London. Got forever hooked and only finished that play through 1 year and 3 months later, and I chose rejection and never saw the breath ending.

And this was my 5th game played and 1st MP....

I was born on a pirate ship, and all I ate was apples.

After that, I didn't have a 'box until I graduated from grad school, and the first games my college friend recommended were Halo and Mass Effect. Started with ME1, had two different Shep playthroughs going (Renegade & Paragon, of course), initially played multiplayer to get my Galactic Readiness up, but now have completely been consumed by multiplayer. So much variety, so many possibilities, and I don't suck at it like I do at Halo.

I got into Mass Effect because of Baldur's Gate and NWN. Which is the reason I got into KotOR. At the time, BW was big on developing their own unique, non-licensed properties, and ME was the closest thing we were ever gonna get (at the time) to a new KotOR. A lot of the things BW learned and perfected in the creation of KotOR went into ME, so even though ME has nothing to do with Star Wars of KotOR, it was, in my view, the successor.

And I really enjoyed that first game. Played the hell out of it. Didn't care much for the base premise of the second game, but I enjoyed that as well. Especilly all the DLC support they put into it. Well...almost all of it. There was no way I wasn't gonna get ME3.

I wasn't particularly enthused about the MP aspect, because I don't really get into MP games. I was actually kinda pissed at the idea they would split their focus between SP and MP. I was troubled by the rumor that the only way to get the "good" ending was to play MP to increase your GR. And that's why I ended up convincing a bunch of friends who also didn't care for MP (but who played the ME franchise) to jump into MP with me.

Nowadays, I no longer care much about the single player campaign, and I damn sure don't care about Galactic Readiness. Multi-player is the main reason I'm still interested in the franchise. I never thought I'd ever be able to say that about an MP game, but for all that I complain about it, the Multiplayer is what has kept me around.

ME1 was my first shooter game ever. ME3 is my first ever online MP game.

A friend of mine accidentally gifted me Batman: Arkham asylum without knowing I wasn't much into video games. I loved that game and it's successor, Arkham city and asked him for some suggestions. He recommended the ME series last August, yes that's when I started playing ME1 lol.

Since then, I've played ME1 4 times, ME2 5 times and ME3 3 times. ME2 is my favorite among the three, not surprisingly. I have invested 1000 hrs in MP having started it in mid-March. I don't play many games and so, I am not surprised that I put so much time into this.

I watched a walk-through of ME2 about two months before the release of ME3, liked it and decided to play the series from the beginning. I started MP to get my Galactic Readiness up, enjoyed it a lot and stuck with it. It's one of the best multiplayer experiences I've had.

I got ME2 when it was first released for ps3 after I had watched my flat mate play through ME1 a while before on his 360. I must have played through it about 10 times and eagerly awaited the sequel without knowing much (or caring) about the multiplayer. Once I'd played through the game and witnessed those endings I knew I never wanted to play it again so tried to get my money's worth from the multiplayer side.
Nearly 2000 hours later it's safe to say I did get my money's worth from the game.
