Wow. CSMG cooldown is really long.

I usually just burn an ammo pack if I overheat my CSMG; doesn't happen very often. But last night I wanted to see just how long you'd have to wait without an ammo pack.

Holy. Cow.

The next wave was almost completely done by the time it cooled off. I understand wanting there to be ramifications for letting it overheat, but that was just downright punitive.

Any action except walking interrupts the cooldown. You need to hit the reload button and then just wait about 3 or 4 seconds for the ammo to renew.

First time it happened to me I was a bit confused too. A whole wave??? :D

Three seconds, yes?
Pita, very much.
Basically the only time I use ammo packs.

All this time and I never knew this. At one point I stayed in cover for what felt like 10 seconds, and that didn't even work. So I gave up and just started spamming powers.

Heh. I was switching between lolsilver and Gold while trying to rank up my friend's weapons, but I can't remember which this happened on. Def not lolbronze though. :)

Yes it has a long cooldown thus the reason you muse use the extended mag and as others have said you have to reload and then wait to let it do its thing, just about anything else you do cancels it out. Reverse reload cancelling if you will.

Don't ever let it run out. If you do, burn a TCP.

Unless it's the last enemy, then melee him and let it cool down, when wave ends.

Unless it's a swarmer. Then nuke it. Repeatedly.

Yeah, I've been spoiled on my login because my CSMG is around rank VI and my magazine mod is fully ranked. But my 'box buddy's CSMG and magazine mod are both rank I, so the magazine kept running out sooner than expected (thus instigating the cooldown test).

I've grown to appreciate fully upgraded weapons & equipment playing on his login.

Unless it's a possessed captain. Then burn though gels and ops and ragequit.

I'll rather use a Lancer.

Both have their place but the CSMG is more versatile IMHO. It's weight, accuracy, armor damage, is a little too good IMHO.

I said the same thing when I first used it. Like a fool, I didn't bring the extended magazine so I only had like 20 shots. Was overheating like twice per wave.

Not that much lighter, Lancer has good enough accuracy, larger clip and better damage - armor damage included and a MUCH better sound.

Weight shouldn't be a huge concern since you shouldn't be putting it on casters anyway, your powers will interrupt the full charge on the PPR  and really ruin your damage.

They are both great guns so I won't argue with either one of you.  If I could have only 2 guns, it would be the CSMG and Lancer.

I would change casters with "comboers".
Because there are lots of "caster" kits who can use PPR successfully.

Reave and DC casters are excellent PPR users.  Damn that drell bug though.

CSMG belongs nowhere near the airlock.

I vote to throw you in instead.

I absolutely loath the CSMG. It weighs more than some
of the assault rifles I have, it does less than half the Hurricane's
damage, and doesn't fire half as quickly. The only things the
CSMG have over the Hurricane are accuracy and capacity, which
is a given for ammo-less weapons.

And to top it all off, its cooldown is hella obnoxious. In my opinion,
this is one of the first URs I'd consider tossing out the air-lock.

((Note that I have a Hurricane X and a CSMG I, which may have
something to do with my immense hatred of it.))

That has everything to do with it. Wait until you get it at X, slap a magazine and ap mod on it and it's a tempest with the accuracy of a locust, with a damage boost vs. armor.
