Alternatively, I'd add Lt. Bryant, Jondum Bau, the Vorcha, and Balak.

Remove: Decisions, decisions. The only ones I don't want to remove are James and Javik. I guess I'd ditch EDI and Liara.
Add: Kirrahe/Salarian STG Operative, a Balak/Batarian Soldier, Former Cerberus Operative, Independent Pirate/Mercenary.
I want all my operatives to be critical of the alliance and people who have their own views and opinions of war. I want them to challenge conventional thinking and act as perspectives for me to gather information on. I don't want them to be yes-men who bat their 'morally right' bs over the head.
Shouldn't they be more critical of the Council than the Alliance, considering it was the Council's severe lack of action that left the galaxy so open to Reaper invasion?

I don't make a distinction between the two. They're both a group of clowns who nearly let the circus burn down.
I just wish I could be hyper-critical to both the Council and the alliance. And I wish I could express pro-Cerberus opinions.
Really, the only reason I wouldn't support Cerberus in ME3 is because they're indoctrinated, and I believe they underestimate the power of the Reapers. I have no problem with their past, their ideology, or their methods.

So as you played through ME1, you wanted to join Cerberus?

People whine about Liara because she's a mandatory squadmate. It's as simple as that.
It's clear to me her characterization really has very little to do with it. The very clumsy reasons listed above are certainly a testament to that.
