Not to start an arguement or even continue on discussion of the subject, because Gaider has already replied to my post quite resonably and people have moved on, but for clarifications sake—and in my own defence—you clearly misunderstood my post.
I didn't mean that male character aren't subjected to the same sort of critique as female characters, I meant that it's accepted and thought of as okay that male characters are subjected to it.
Someone could make a post saying they don't find Varric sexually attractive, and people may disagree with that assessment, but no one would say there's anything inherently wrong with judging him on his sex appeal and finding him lacking.
Based on posts I've read in the past on this forum, and other forums, and based on this thread, female characters get treated differently in that regard. Understandable, equality issues being what they are; I was simply pointing out what I saw as an obvious discrepancy between how male and female characters are viewed and judged, and how they're allowed to be viewed and judged.
