Please put my mind at ease and tell me the current DA:I Cassandra has a placeholder face

After getting a good look at the Pax screenshot, she's a 7. But Leliana, Morrigan and Isabella still top her, but now she tops Aveline who is a 6.8.

On a scale that only goes up to 7.1, of course.

I realize it's totally unnecesary, but as a representative of tomboys who don't give two ****s about adhering to so-called modern standards of beauty, I want to say that I thoroughly approve of Cassandra's look as shown so far.

She was bland in DA2. After seeing her in the PAX demo I'm actually considering a F/F romance for the first time.

You mean they don't?!?!

Does that mean giving every one of my straight girl friends a copy of DA:O was completely useless? :crying:

God forbid a woman doesn't have a small pointy-chinned face in a Bioware game. :|

I believe it has been adequately explained that only men can have broad, angular jaws. :innocent:

Now THAT depends on how little armour the Qunari wear.

Fear not, OP. Someone will make an "anime Cassandra" mod anyhow.

And - do me a favour will you? - don't tell me: The new engine can't handly their looks or something like that (i play a lot of BF4 and that engine can do good looking faces (even on the non-descript player characters from Multi-Player!!!))

Ah, you discovered it. We actually did prettier versions of Cassandra and Morrigan, and the new engine spat them back out and said, "What do you think you are? BF4?" Goddamn capricious game engines, man.

I actually took this to Matt Goldman, our Art Director, and said, "New engine aside, couldn't you at least have made Cassandra and Morrigan look exactly like they did before? They were universally pretty back then. Everyone on our forums thought so, even from the first screenshots. And now..."

And he wept, man. He wept.

Tsk. Crunch is hard on artists.

at least someone thinks it funny ;) (and a member of the dev-team to boot ^^)

I am sorry, David (may I call you that?), but i don't think it is

i mean, i can accept that there is changes between games (with switching engines, too), but does that - always - mean that you should dabble around with the characters?

i mean, surely you could have made her look a little bit more like her DAII self (and no one would have complained much - except for guys that didn't like her in the first place of course)?

As for her being unrecognizable as someone said: it's not this bad, but it's bad enough (change her armor and yes, i would not know that it was her)

so yeah, i still don't like it

greetings LAX

She does look different, somewhat but I still recognized who she was supposed to be. Cassandra in the anime looks nothing like Cassandra in DA2. I didn't expect her to.  Merrill, Leliana, Alistair, Teagan and Zevran all looked altered in DA2's engine (some with more success at capturing their original appearance than others). Morrigan was more of a shock since I've been playing the last half dozen games with my own morph of her in Origins but it took me only a moment to realize who it was. She's still Morrigan.

Different engine, different format, different art style.

More shocking (in DA2) the changes made to elven facial structure/body types and suddenly all Kossith have horns? At least they didn't alter Cassandra to something unrecognizable. You want to complain about major alterations without explanation find something actually altering characters. If we see Sten in DAI, does this mean he will suddenly have grown horns? Just as Merrill went all 'avatar' on us?

It was explained that sten is one of the few qunari( I refuse to call them kossith) who was born without horns and are more human-like in appeareance than other qunari which they find to be more intimidating for some reason. Also he is no longer sten, he is now arishok. or stenishock as bsn has grown to lovingly call him.

yeaaahhhhno.  I would have no problem with Sten as one in 100000 births being a hornless--whatever you want to call his race--but for one problem.  Every single model of the Kossith in Origins is also hornless.

I just accepted the change as a 'different direction they're going in' just like I accepted all the art changes in comics I used to enjoy reading.  Just as I did with the elves.

But both of these instances are still more drastic alterations than what was done to Cassandra.  They didn't suddenly give her wings or horns or a tail and expect us to take that as the 'standard' of her race.  She's human.  Dark short cut hair, darker skinned, female human.  She was also recognizable to who she was supposed to be.  If Sten suddenly popped up looking just like the Arishok from DA2, I'd say OP has good cause to complain.

BTW, this is not a denoument of the new Kossith look.  I like the horns and it makes it easier to understand why Ogres look like they do (with horns).  I liked the Arishok as a character as well.  It just took some getting used to and I'm only bringing it up in relation to how much something can change and still be accepted in the community.

While I agree that DA2 Cassandra was more attractive to me, it is understandable given that a war has injuries, casualties, and likely a lack of daily personal upkeep for the participants. Even without a war, being out in the field can take a toll on appearances. It is to be expected.

We will always have Kirkwall....

We're talking about looks here, nothing else, and noone mentioned any 'worthiness'. I'm saying that Cassandra's new look fits the strong woman archetype which I, personally, find most appealing; I can't very well judge her character from the three lines of dialogue we've heard from her so far, now can I?

Let's be fair here: Attraction matters. Whether in real life relationships or fictional ones.
And since we don't really know enough about her personality (at least not in DA:I), her looks and what we associate with it are really the only things one can base an attraction on.

What if she's not romanceable? What if she's like Aveline, you can flirt with, but never have? Would that alter the stance of some of you?

What is the point of this thread?
You don't like the look of said character.

At least the criticism against Miranda and Ashley made some sense. Many people didn't like the idea of catsuits, loose long hair and high/medium heels being viewed as combat gear.

This thread is, "she looks ugly because she has a square jaw". Oh and she looks different.

Sorry for dismissing 16 pages of comments so easily.
There were probably some really intelligent comments made on this thread too.

Some people read the opening post and judge the book by it's cover. But oh boy is the cover un-appetizing.

I absolutely expect Cassandra and Varric to get together after their bonding experience in DA2.

Then after the game launches David Gaider and Mary Kirby will be like:

Wait, who was talking about Cassandra's womanhood? Ignorereality said she likes Cassandra's new look and considers a F/F romance with her, someone else said that she shouldn't decide who to romance based on attraction, and I answered that attraction is kind of an important part of relationships, real or fictional.

Unless I missed some grave faux pas I made?

I'm big enough to admit how much that would fill me with raging jealousy (of which one I'm unsure). I'm also pretty certain that I'd find it absolutely adorable as well. It's like Talibrations all over again!

Also am I the only one who saw Cass in the trailer and thought "wow they really prettied her up for this game"?

I'm big enough to admit that Tali/Garrus made me stalk out of the room in frustration and ensured that Garrus would not survive my next Mass Effect 2 playthrough. Petty, but immensely satisfying. :innocent:
Cassandra and Varric would garner the exact same response, I wager. (Ah, the joys of being a possessive little sh**.)
