uh. Mariska would probably roll her eyes at such a backhanded compliment.

Really dude?

Nothing backhanded about the compliment.  I stated that she's attractive
in a slightly masculine way.  That's not insulting at all.  It was a
compliment and I meant it that way.  I can't speak for an actress who
I've never met, though.

women I know don't like to be called masculine.Really dude, lol ?:innocent:

As it is the OP doesn't like the new look Cassandra's look.I don't like it.Others have said they don't like it.
True that others have said they like it.
So it's a difference of opinion and that's it.

I will say this.
She's looking a bit pale in the above image and in the gameplay footage we've seen.
I hope she retains the more olive tone she had in DA2 and the E3 trailer.

That's not Cassandra, silly! That's Mariska Hargitay.

There are enough hurt feelings on BSN as is, let's not assume offense on behalf of other people.  If Mariska Hargitay gets offended by comment, I'll apologize to her directly.

I don't think it's insulting to call a woman "handsome in a slightly masculine way" or a man "pretty in a slightly feminine way".  It's a descriptor.  That's it.  And in this case, I was describing a character who is an aggressive warrior woman with a square-off face and short hair.  I don't think "slightly masculine" is that far off the mark.

She literally looks the same to me. Outside of a new graphics engine and art style

I like Cassandra's look show's she's been hardend by the war started by Ander's I also liked her look in the Video but in that she was young and she hated all mage's almost as much as Meredith.

Morrigan - She stated that it leads "beyond this world and beyond the Fade" who's to say that the Eluvian didn't teleport her and the baby to the black city where she has raised the child and time is possibly different as she looks almost 17 to 18 years older than when she traveled with the Warden, long enough to raise and train the OGB.

Well Varric you can only improve upon perfection.

I just want elves to look way better than what they looked like in DA:2 skinny as a rail with huge pointy ear's kept thinking a stiff wind was gonna knock Merril over.

I like where the Dev's and Artist's hard work on character design's are going and I applaud their hard work. <Clap Clap> keep up the good work!

Probably will be alot more hurt feelings after the game comes out.People have expectations and I expect some fans will be disappointed. The nature of the beast as it is.
I think it's the hair.If the hair was long I expect you wouldn't think her masculine in any sense.

As pointed out by others it would be pretty stupid to not buy the game solely based upon the bad drawing of the face of a character or characters. I expect the OP will buy the game anyway.I will buy the game anyway, unless it gets bad reviews.

At least in North American society, where deviations from gender norms are generally well-regarded/that socially acceptable, it's not well-regarded (again generally), to say that someone looks like the opposite gender.

But seriously, why is this an issue?  One looks vastly better than the other due to a more competent graphics engine and art style, yet they both capture the essence of the same woman, no doubt.

The Only difference I can see might be the eye shape(which could easisly be the lack of eye shadow and the angle of the second picture) and a fairly badass (and sexy) scar. Heck her jaw line looks close enough to eachother they could be the same.

I loved what Bioware did with her eyes in DA2 and I really liked her voice. (salutes the team of DA2)

I am hoping that those two things carry over into DA:I, but as I said earlier, I understand that the final decision is Bioware's, not mine. I also understand that there will be changes in appearances due to new engine, artistic inspiration and story choices. That happens.

Given that D. Gaider also had to adjust to the updated look, I'm sure that the DA group won't be offended if I say that I'm not automatically in love with her new look. But that doesn't mean that my opinion is set in stone, either. It will probably take about ten minutes or so into the new game for my eyes to adjust to the new lighting (engine) and I'll start to like this updated version as well.

It took some getting used to, initially, but I actually like her new appearance better (the one you see in the PAX demo, anyhow, which is a bit refined from the first time we showed her). Not everyone's going to agree, which is fine, but she's my character and I think she works... so meh. Image IPB

Its easy to see from the two pictures that Cassandra looked vastly better in DA2 than what we've seen of her in DAI. I understand they can't use the exact same graphics since they're using all new technology and all, but certainly whoever designed this version of Cassandra wasn't designing her with attractiveness in mind, and I hope that at some point they will have attractiveness in mind, and change her face to make it as attractive as it used to be. It's not about her jaw, or her eye shape, or whatever else people like to debate, it's simply that one version of her face is pretty, and one is ugly, and both should be pretty. It's just that simple.

I think we jump to conclusion too early here. We have the past 2 years to look at DA 2 Cassandra, from pretty much all angles. Now, we only saw DA:I Cass for few seconds in the trailer, and some screenshots, and non of them is even a direct shot. So it's too early to criticize her look.

Personally, I like her new look just fine. She's a warrior, not a beauty queen anyway.

Anyone know why it's called "olive" skin? Olives are green. Cassandra is not green.

Just so long as you recognize that it's not really "just that simple" because some people, myself included, don't think the new one is ugly.  You are mistaking opinion as fact.  My statement AND your statement are both opinions.  Neither are facts, so it's not "just that simple".

My opinion is the opposite, though I wouldn't call he DA2 version 'ugly'. So, who's right between us?

@DinoSteve: you do realize that Cassandra, as shown in the PAX demo, has changed a lot from the that screenshot from the E3 trailer, right?
I mean, you can continue to say 'she seems a man' and similar crap as many times as you want, but at least be accurate when you state your crappy argument.

Who cares if person x or person y think she looks like a bloke? (Despite my avatar) I'm a woman who frequently gets mistaken for a guy - or, more accurately, a boy. I just have short hair (shorter than that) am small and don't bother with dresses.

I've had no shortage of guys to go out with over the years, though, and my husband happily shaves my head for me nowadays. He thinks I'm cute. I like the fact that he's olive skinned and athletic. We just like each other.

I simply assume guys who don't find me attractive, for whatever reason, are the ones who never make a move on me or the ones who said "no" when I've made a move on them, over the years. That's OK. I wouldn't presume to force someone to find me attractive.

The devs have been really clear on the fact that they appreciate the way she looks. She's clearly a woman. Woman have various kinds of faces and haircuts. People are attracted to different stuff? It's all good, right?

(Sorry to get slightly personal. But, I don't know, reality check. And feel free to hassle me for being a boyish looking woman if you like, but I can't imagine why anyone would bother.)

I hope the art-direction keeps this more human like look for the games cast. They actually start to give their characters visible personality and hard corners.

And I see this thread is still going---prompted by the same two posters repeatedly spinning the plate by making new posts as if they haven't opined on the subject before.

So the tl;dr -- some people liked her DA2 look better. Some people think she looks too masculine in DAI. Some people really like her new look. Some people really like to exaggerate. And just about everyone else either doesn't care or is willing to wait until they see more than an early screenshot.

I feel I need an appropriate doge meme for this.

At any rate, we're done. Start a new thread if you want to have an actual discussion--but if those posters (and you know who you are) do so simply to troll responses, they'll be shown the door. Duly warned be thee, says I.
