Is this a glitch (PS3)? It appears as though items for Mages (specifically armor) has a Restriction on them that ONLY Garrett Hawke can wear. If I recall correctly, Garrett is a Warrior.
Example - Circle Magi Brandishers (boots)
DA2 - Misappropriation of Goods

No, none of your companions can equip armour. Your companions wear unique outfits that improve throughout the game. Only Hawke can equip any piece of armour.
If your Warrior Hawke had high enough Magic and Willpower scores, he could put on those mage boots. But since he's a warrior, it would be detrimental to boost his magic and willpower scores that high.
Just sell that stuff. It's junk.

As evildude said, most of DA2 equipment is for Hawke only, however these may or may not be for your class.
