Steam understands that consoles are the future of gaming, not PCs. Otherwise, it wouldn't perform any attempts to make its way into consoles market.

Where you keep completely ignoring that Steam Machines essentially ARE PCs! Made by Valve who guess what, specializes in selling mostly PC games. Also fully upgradable, just like what? PCs. And you can customize the OS that you wish to run, the included Linux or change it to Windows. This will allow devs to push the boundaries of what games can really do, whereas xbox and PS have to be developed within constraints of their fixed hardware. If anything, this will be an even bigger boost to PC gaming.

Basically, people who want the experience of PC gaming but are too lazy to build their own.

A game changer for consoles.

If they put out a Fire Emblem game on the WiiU I would pretty much buy the console instantly.

Good myn.

I'm assuming it's designed to hook up to TVs out of the box, or else this last statement would be redundant.

It is, but so is any prebuilt computer.  My point is that people who prefer console type gaming but want the type of graphics PC can give you and will want to upgrade the hardware will most likely go for something like this than a console whose hardware will be out of date in a couple of years.  People who don't care one way or the other or just can't afford something like this will just stick with a console.  That's totally cool as well.

But also, it will allow developers to make games with graphics like Crysis 3 on max settings.  You have to have a computer from hell to run Crysis 3 on max settings.  Pushing the boundaries. Plus if graphics are the most important thing to you in a game, like a certain someone...

Yes. Those that truly want the best visual experience will be on PC.

PC hardware will outdate PS4 hardware, and then what? Using Plaintiff's logic, you would be 100% correct.

Consoles have come a long way, certainly. From what I've seen on the next-gen consoles, they do look great, I just disagree that a.) PC gaming is dying, it's certainly not and b.) graphics are everything.  If someone wants the best, most realistic graphics possible, and if the dev cared about porting the game over well (looking at you, Dark Souls), then PC would be your best bet.

Console exclusives will always exist, and there are people who just don't care about what they play on, they just want to play.

Honestly I went from PC to console because I just couldn't be bothered to give a crap about graphics compared to the trouble of actually having to build or rebuild my PC. It really is convenient to be able to just put a disk into a machine and not have to worry about the components working properly.

So yeah good on you new gen for finally catching up somewhat graphics wise but I'll be damned if I say that's the main selling point of consoles.

Let's wait and see what will happen, shall we? :)

OnLive was also an "OMG revolution!", a "killer of consoles!", and were is it now? In the same trash can where the pseudo-PC-Steam-Machine-console will probably be soon after release.

Upgradeablity of a console is not an advantage, it's a failure to create some final stable product. And upgradeability of the Steam Machine doesn't change the fact that it's a console, and Steam is just trying to make it to the console market before it's too late.

I agree. And good, you contributed to a possible Seival response. I had more on Raven's post but it kind of answered for Seival.

I like this question. Because it can be returned to a person who asked it without losing it's meaning, and as an actual answer to the question.

It's obvious that the main idea being conveyed by the people of the thread is that great graphics aren't as important as great gameplay and a great story. Anyone who says otherwise should just pack up their console or PC and look to films for their recreation rather than gaming.

Yea, I know the truth :)
That's why I became a console player and left PC inside my house only as a powerful workstation.

Seriously, let's wait 5 years and re-discuss the topic.

If it's anything like your test flight thread you'll still refuse to admit your prediction was wrong even when you clearly were.

Not really. What you're saying is "This is my opinion. These people who don't agree with it are vocal players who do not know what they are talking about or non trustworthy critics".

Meanwhile, I've made no real statement about your opinion other than the mere fact that I disagree with it in the asking of that question.

It is entirely possible to disagree with somebody but understand that they are of the opinion that graphics and story are the most important thing in games.

It's an entirely different thing to try to say that everybody who doesn't think that way is wrong. I know it's a shocking thing for the majority of the internet these days, but disagreeing with somebody does not automatically mean you think they are objectively wrong.

However, when you do attempt to make an objective statement that is false(saying all PC devs only make MMOs and low budget games) then calling you out on that is not trying to say your opinion is wrong, It's saying your facts are wrong.

How is upgradeability not an advantage?

Do you really want to be stuck with whatever parts Sony stuck in there to minimize their costs for an entire console lifecycle of 8 years?
