It's a matter of opinion.  For me, the series did more for me than most friends or family did.  Sad to say, yes, but it's true.  Some people hated the change between the first and second game.  Others hated the ending of the third game, but there are those who didn't take issue with it.  It's all a question of what you value in a game.

I would also buy the trilogy on Day One if it came out for Xbox One.  That was my go-to game.  Having a bad day?  Mass Effect!  Having a good day?  Mass Effect!  Having a day where you don't know what to play?  Mass Effect!

Replace 'Xbox One' with 'Playstation 4' or 'Next Gen Consoles' and I would absolutely sign your whole post. <3

If you valued the games so highly why did you get rid of your Xbox 360?

Surely you knew you wouldn't be able to play the Mass Effect trilogy on the new console?

Well I technically didn't get rid of it.  I ended up giving it to my little sister because she was going off to college in another state and an Xbox 360 would provide her with plenty of entertainment.  I value the mass effect games, but I also value my responsibilities as the eldest sibling.

For others, it's a matter of convenience.  Some use their next gen console primarily and its the only thing they have plugged in to their tv.  Playing a last gen game means dusting off their old console and plugging it in.  Not to sound lazy, but some people would rather just play their game without any extra effort or fuss.

I meant next-gen consoles, but I said Xbox One to keep the thread more personal.

Well, to give an answer: What's the point of it? Wouldn't it be better if Bioware invested the resources which would have been allocated for a next-gen port to a new game instead? This is the question I ask to all those who want cosmetic changes to games.

A digital re-release of the Mass Effect trilogy with updated textures, graphics etc would be white hot. You can never have enough Mass Effect

of course, because it must take so much to release an updated trilogy to suit PS4/X1. Bioware could possibly  allocate the work to someone else. I'm sure it will be worth it finacially

Actually it could be a lot of work depending on how the game engine is coded and since they have moved to a completely new engine they would either have to make a lot of modifications to the game to make it work with Frostbite or work on the game engine and hope it will work on new consoles.  Then there is the problem with EA wanting all games to be on Frostbite, but deciding not to license it out yet.

I don't think anything like this would happen. They would have to do so much work from to do a Next Gen port. There would need to be an good increase in graphical fidelity to justify people buying the trilogy again. Bioware are going to be busy for the next 5 years with Dragon Age 3 and its DLC, The Next Mass Effect and its DLC, The Secret Project Casey Hudson is working on and its DLC. BUSY BUSY!

A Japanese Dev (CAPCOM I think) said the other say it takesup to 10x times more work to make a game for the new consoles.

Also all you have to do is look at previous Bioware titles that have had remakes and re-releases.

Baldurs Gate 1 and 2 got a bit of a graphical update and some tweaks.

Knights of the Old Republic got released on the iPad, didn't really change the graphics much, if at all.

You will likely see a Mass Effect version for the iPad 6 or 7 whatever they may be called in the future.

If you really want next-gen ME trilogy, just play on a decent gaming computer with a 2560x1440 monitor. Playing in 1440p resolution will be about as next-gen as you can possibly get.

Why? The ME games can already run in HD, what is the point? So EA can milk poor Shepard even more?

ME2/3 are fine. ME1 is the one in dire need of a graphic upgrade.

ME1 with ME3's look would be an instant smash-hit. they are still on the same engine so that's a first step in easier implementation. there wouldn't need to be any rewrites, big or small, it would simply be a straight port with pretty much everything intact, even with that awful inventory.

or maybe the inventory could be changed to ME3's style, so we wouldn't have to keep hoarding weapon upgrades. omni-gel might have to make a return, naturally, if only to keep with the storyline upgrades. same goes for the Mako.

ok naturally there would have to be some system upgrades, but most of the content would already be there, instead of having to start a brand new game from scratch.

Bioware stands to make a ton of cash from this.

Use free texmods, no point.

Ehhh I disagree. Mass effect 1 looked fine because it was consistent, mass effect 3 however is such sh*t because it absolutely isn't. That's aside from the files being a flaming mess and it not being optimized (having higher def textures in your gamefiles but only using them on NPCs using versions for Shepard that are twice as small).
So in my opinion, none of them look good enough for next gen, especially not because graphically the PC did no better than the console versions.

I expect it will happen at some point, though it'll be on the timescale of other big name ports and remakes (Halo CE Anniversary, the KotOR iPad port, the Baldur's Gate EE's, or on an even longer scale, the ports of Myst and Riven to the iPad). So not anytime soon.

Right now, the "Trilogy" version you can buy is pretty neutered. I'm thinking that for this you actually pack in all the DLC, upgrade to Unreal 4 or Frostbite whatever, update ME1 to use ME2/3's gunplay, that sort of thing. In the latter half of this console generation, when everybody will have largely forgotten the furor over the ending and instead started getting nostalgic, it'll just make good financial sense.

Do that and I might consider buying them again.

I hated that they removed the dice-roll from the shooter part of the combat.

ME's gameplay was among some of the worst I've ever played. Glad that they scrapped it for 2 and 3.

For me was the best. There was always momentum to the combat no matter your class, you always had options available. Combat in the next two feels too 'stop/start' like you are always having to wait for some reason, especially if you are playing as a biotic based class.

Shields that are actually effective instead of failing if an enemy even breathes heavily on them.

Grenades that actually go where you want, can be set-up with a variety of effects, and can be used as booby-traps.

Add in a far more flexible cover system, one where running doesn't throw you limpet like against any wall you may brush by, and you have combat that just has far more options available.

That's not to say there aren't things I think are improved in 2 and 3. I like the option to curve powers and vault over cover.

I hope it happens like they did with Tomb Raider.
