I actually had the opposite issue, finding it difficult to make attractive males in the Character Creator, finding attractive females much easier. That's why I went to the toolset, the parameters are easier to control, from the shape of the nose to the amount of beard/scruff on the face. Even making a morph that looks good in the toolset and translating that to the CC alters the animation of the face in ways I hadn't expected. Gawain is 100% toolset.
Gawain has custom textured eyes, possibly face and hair color--I am unsure I lost the morph to a computer reformat and have no way to check it--but pretty much he was made just using game resources.
My Amell was made on the same face, but experienced some alteration when I put the morph through the Character Creator. It can't be helped, the CC views/displays some features differently. I removed the scruff and changed the hairstyle/color for a more refined look. Whereas Gawain was 'noble barbarian', I wanted to make a character who seemed more cerebral in his approach to problems than more visceral fighter approach. Personality also comes into play when I make characters, as my RP begins before I've even created them and I try to make appearance reflect that.
hmm and looking at my Amell, I think I had modded/realistic eyebrows as well...*runs off to nexus*.
