Ammo doesn't bother me, there are lots of boxes.
Its just a pretty bog standard assault rifle that belongs in call of duty, much rather use a typhoon/saber/ppr, those guns are actually pretty fun.

Damn you Mega!!!!

Now I'm addicted to the damn thing.
All I do is PuG plats with Harrier QMI (Mag+EB+Drill3, + power amp IV + GCV, no rail amps, I need to grind some consumables).
Yadadadadadada, so damn addictive.

YOU SPOILED MY GAME!!! :pinched:

All the guns are boring to use. You point, you click...that's all there is. None of the weapons in ME3 have a whole lot of character to them. I'm pretty sure they're designed to be easy to use for the non-FPS players Mass Effect is supposed to attract.

You're addicted because it's an awesome gun.. even on casters with the appropriate ammo. I'd use it much more often if Assault Rifle amps weren't UR for me. It only lengthens cooldowns of those 2.5-3 second powers (at 200%) by about half a second.

This game needed the Harrier, and more guns like it. I'd like to see more of today's style of guns in the next Mass Effect... More Widows (bolt action sniper rifle), Harriers (standard full auto AR), Black Widows (semi auto sniper rifle), Raiders (sawed off double barrel shotgun), Paladins (Desert Eagle style pistol), Sabers (marksman's rifle), etc. All we need is a real style SMG in this one... Something like an MP5.

...and less recoil via a stock. One way to balance weapons Bioware could implement is the concept of bullet drop... Smaller bullets doing less damage at longer range.

I actually thought of the Tempest when I wrote that post... But the recoil doesn't translate as well. I guess you could say the Hurricane translates to a Thompson SMG without a stock lol... I mean... How can SMGs in the future not even compare to the Vector of today?

Hell... You could argue the minigun of today outperforms the Spitfire.

Harrier is cool, because it's a Cerberus weapon, so I can use it on the Phoenix and feel like I'm role-playing.

I'm really amazed that after all these long months there is still a discussion ongoing.
Reckoning launched 10 months ago, right?

It gets so much hate, I thought I'd give it the PDA it deserves. Meanwhile... The lolLancer gets all the love from the people in denial that the Harrier owns it.. because it sounds cool, is marginally lighter and has infinite ammo, while being objectively inferior in every other catagory. I guess they haven't figured out how to move around the map from spawns to ammo boxes... Or equip an Eagle or ULM Hurrdurrcane as a sidearm.

I like the harrier, use it mainly on my N7 Destroyer. Wish it was level X tho and not level IV :(

Now that i think of it tempest as tommy gun is pretty similar as the first smg vs present smg stopping power might be like tempest vs hurricane ...but i dunno if the gatling gun ( that thing is mounted iirc )  can carry as much ammo and mook killing power as a spitfire and can be carried by humans or volus
Also we do have the barretta machine pistol equivalent in this game you know:whistle:

If the next mass effect plays out in bigger environments bullet drop can work but not on todays scale...so much for that phalanx enjoying a ballistic advantage

GE GAU-8 can definitely outperform spitfire, but I think even jugg (the only character slightly bigger than unmounted gun) should be speed-penalized, also ammo issues.

M134 can outperform Spitfire vs mooks, but it's 7,62 should suffer a bit vs bosses. Still ammo issues.

I imagine M-134 on RoF specced TSol... 4500rpm, dat dakka.

Harrier is the Hurricane of ARs without the drawback of major kick. Saber baby! ;)

I actually like the idea of drop off damage on certain weapons, but I don't believe it fits the lore (lol) since weapons in ME are more akin to railguns than conventional firearms. Also the maps need to be much larger for this damage drop off mechanic to actually be meaningful.

It feels like the reason so many weapons feel lackluster is because they wanted to make the game grindy and fairly difficult to encourage Microtrans (it always comes back to these doesn't it). The damn Microtrans really did screw up the balance of the game. Also the AI is so ludicrously stupid that BW had to find any cheap mechanic to compensate for this.

You're right about the map size making bullet drop not really matter in this game... Hopefully the next gen consoles will give them the processing power to remedy this... Then shotguns wouldn't rule as much as they do. I'd love to see some giant outdoor maps... I guess the only guns that have bullet drop now are the PPR and CSR.

LOL @ the GAU-8 equivalent in the next game... That would be so awesome. Maybe a two man team could operate that weapon... Hmmm... That could be a killer concept, super weapons that require two players to operate. You'd need a Juggy to carry it and a Destroyer to carry the ammo :D

The Spitfire is pretty much an energy based M134.. and it performs against armor as such. We can give the future the benefit of the doubt that they have ammo types that can perform against armor on smaller-ish weapons... I mean, afterall... The Harrier/Hurrdurrcane rips armor apart like its soft butter.

Yep... And 200% cooldown rate.

"But muh Lancer X gives me 191% cooldown and haz no ammo issues herp derp... Even though it has a 3 second reload and a spread almost as bad as the Punisher.. herp derp"

This is probably true... But, the community will clamor for a proper AR and will get one eventually if there isn't one at launch. Bioware's anti-AR bias at launch was pretty stupid, and they spent DLC after DLC and several balance changes remedying this.

@Slim: Harrier > Saber... Bc shieldgate. Come at me bro :P

Nope, Destroyer to carry a gun and Juggie to carry the ammo and the Destroyer.

And TSol to calibrate the gun and Drellfiltrator to provide recon and run to the ammo boxes (pizza-mechanics).
But when the job is done properly, Plat. Collector spawn is wiped in 5 seconds. :o

Now it's time to recharge the gun...

I wouldn't even give em 5 seconds : )

That gun is a thing of beauty. Dat sound, dat firepower!! I like what the pilot in the episode of heavy metal said about it, "It shakes the entire plane, then it fills the cockpit with the smell of gunpowder, it's quite intoxicating."

I would actually love to have something that enhances teamwork in next effect.

For example: duo of TSol with Broophoon and Drellfiltrator with BW. Drellfiltrator places the recon mine on juicy spawn, TSol engages MM and starts destroying the spawn, in the meantime infidrell covers his back; Tsol gets 1,5x points for shooting scanned targets, while DI gets 0,5x for every scanned target and 3x for killing enemies that are shooting TSol.

It should be damn hard to execute in terms of game mechanics though.
