How could they have body customization? Every piece of armor would have to have a hundred variations to fit all the changes. As long as the face and hair are customizable, I am happy.

Exactly, I would rather have more armour customization than body customization- I'll trade making a taller person for more armor options & details. Also I assume we are getting facial customization- recent Bioware games have all had it- and no where do they mention that they are not doing facial customization.

By stretching the model according to your proportions, presumably.

Skyrim doesn't have the level of detail and customization that Dragon Age Inquisition is going to have.

I'll be OK with body type selections - we really had no selections when it came to anything below the neck in DAO and DA2. I hope we're not stuck with presets at every turn like we are in SWTOR.

Jeez, Linkenski.... if you're going to get all hysterical about articles, at least learn how link tags work so we don't have to cut-and-paste the urls ourselves.

The title of this thread is completely misleading, as I'm sure the article is.

It would be nice to have a choice of skinny, muscular, or fat body types, but it's not a huge deal. Lack of facial customization, however, would be a dealbreaker. But nothing about Mike Laidlaw's tweet makes me think that's happening. YAY

Huh, that's kinda weird though, isn't it? We weren't ever able to change body-parts were we? So why would the article say "They are limited to just four body types per race"

What the sentence actually says is that "instead of sliders, they are limited to just four body types" So there is customization, but not as much as with faces. Perfectly normal use of language. (Didn't we have another thread from you where you misread a phrase? "Liara isn't her mother" or some such?)

Moot anyway, since as mentioned the article writer misread the statement.

Look at TES: Online.

On-topic: The article is definitely misleading. Our poor OP fell victim to its half-truth.

I'm perfectly fine with no body sliders, I always figured that sort of customisation was never on Bioware's list.

This,

also how do you know the level of detail, AmRMa?

The limitations on the body morphology stem from armour design and animation. The moment you start changing size of different body parts you are going to have to start stretching or compressing textures or come up with some insane procedural texture generation algorithm which is never going to look as good as bespoke textures (see Spore). If you start changing limb lengths and proportions you are going to start messing up animations that interact with the world or even with each other. This is the reason why The Sims does not have a height slider.

Hmm, I seem to be focusing on Maxis games atm.

TES: Online has a body slider and any player can wear any armor, regardless of appearance. It looks great too boot. So it is possible. DA:I could potentially have that too, but I feel like Bioware is much more story-centric than customization-centric.

Image IPB  ....     ...excuse me?

Well maybe you have the console version. Anyway:
The software technology is call associviativity  (I think I just became dyslex...  ...- oh f***!), and is actually explicitly supported in the Java application programming language (Observer Class, for instance). It's been used in engineering design tools since like almost decades. But I totally get if Bioware don't want to do it that way. Less dependencies is more solid and simpler.

I can play as a cartoon pink pony who fights Macho man dragons and Mr.T trolls who cry the Trololo song when they attack.... Please say Skyrim doesn't have the level of detail and customization that Dragon Age Inquisition is going to have when DA is not going to have mod support.

Man, every day I look up Inquisition news, and every single day I see another article by the examiner fishing for views that claims some mind blowing news that's just a tiny thing that's worded like it's an update when it's really not.

so you could say they're the huffington post of gaming
