The article isn't about the body types in particular. It's just a compilation of stuff Laidlaw said on Twitter.

I don't know if the body types are four to a whole race, and thus 2 male and 2 female, or, if we get 4 per male and 4 per female.

For Humans, at least, if I had four options for males and females separately, here is what I'd like to see:

Female:
1. Physically fit in the style of ballet dancers, acrobats, gymnasts and such. Smaller more lean and streamlined body types that are small and toned but lacking bulky muscle and curved. This is a body type for those smaller but still physically fit fast and flexible character types. A no nonsense body type, stripped down, pure function over form.

2. Physically powerful in the amazonian line of thinking, weight lifters, powerful large builds with rippling muscle.

3. A smaller/skinny body type for those that want to make bookworm style characters and older withered style characters.

4. Here I have trouble. Part of me wants to insert a less conventional husky female body type. Another part of me wants to see a more conventional female body type. In all honesty, I think both have a place. One of them as an alternative for those that don't like the conventional, and the other for those that like the more conventional. It's a hard decision because I like variety, so I feel almost every body type has a place for someone of some personality.

Male:
1. A physically fit but smaller body type, toned but in the style of ballet dancers and the like. A body type for the more flexible and fast, but still physical, character types.

2. A physically fit but very large and powerful, rippling with muscle. Very typical, but it has its place.

3. A smaller skinnier/lanky body type for the bookworm characters and older more withered looking characters.

4. Here, again, I'm torn. Part of me wants to see a huskier body type. At the same time I'd like to see a more conventional male body type. Like this place in the female list I feel both have their place, and it's rather sad to come to this portion, because it feels like 5 might have been a better body type.

If it's just four total, per race, 2 male and 2 female things get even harder because I really don't feel like 2 body types per gender really works at all. I feel an inclusive and varied approach is the best one, that allows as many people to play the male or female character of their liking.

I'm pretty sure it's 1 per race/gender combination, nothing more.

Let me quote myself.

Sorry to disappoint everyone, but the OP's conclusion as the one of the interviewer is flawed.A forumite asked Mr. Laidlaw if he meant 4 disctinctive body types for each race or 4 for all races. The answer was 2 for each race, one male model and one female. In the end, you'll be able to modify only the face, as in the previous games.

Here's a link to the conversation from the DA Tweeter thread .

One would think Bioware would have taken a look at Dragons Dogma and other rpgs, how they did it and try to do as much as they could.

OP, please read more carefully, that quote wasn't exactly confusing...

And is everyone else sure he means one body type per gender per race or is he talking about something more like the body types in SWTOR? Because if he means the SWTOR body types, then that's actually a marked improvement from what we've had in the past as far as choices for bodies.

He clarified his exact meaning in a followup shortly after:

"2 bodies per race, 1 male, 1 female."

I asked about that earlier in this thread.  Apparently it's going to be like DA:O instead of SWTOR body types.

lol then why even say it the way he said it? Why wouldn'the just say you don't have the option to change your characters physique?

Meh.  If it was up to me, the accents would look more like this...

Humans: American

Elves: English (Simon Templeman as Teryn Loghain? Yes.  Michael Gough as Alfred? Yes.  Elrond in the LOTR films?  Yes.  Michael Caine as Alfred?  No.  Stay away from the cockney accent with elves.)

Dwarves: Scottish
