No it's 2 body types per race- one female and one male.
Human- Male-1, Female-1
Dwarf- Male-1, Female-1
Elf- Male-1, Female-1
Qunari- Male-1, Female-1= 8 total body types

How about cockney for the alienage elves, and received pronunciation for the Dalish?

No the Laidlaw quote very specifically says four body types per race. Presumably that means two for each gender.
(Though I look forward to the deluge of threads if its three male bodies and one female.)

Nowhere does it say that there is no facial customization. Just that there are limited body types which is an improvement because DA:O and DA2 didn't have that.

Well if they go four body types per gender you may get your wish. Thats what Bioware did in SWTOR and body 4 was the chubby one for men.

The way I'm reading it...sounds like they actually added body customization which was confirmed awhile back as not being in the game(I'm pretty sure). Unless they just poorly worded it. If they did indeed add a few body types per race and we have body customization then that's a huge step forward in the character creator for us.
It's shocking to me how Bioware keeps saying this feature isn't going to be in the game and then they come right back and say it will be. That tells me things must be going great in development and they're learning they can do far more than they ever imagined with that engine. I really can't wait for this game.

We're investing in supporting 4 race body types instead.
Hmmm. This is a pretty confusing statement. It could mean one of two things:
1. We're creating four body types per race.
OR
2. We're creating a body type to go with each race, of which there are four.
Since they have said again and again and again that there will be no body customization, I tend to think it's the second.
Meaning, there will be a female elf body, a male elf body, a female human body, a male human body, a female qunari body, a male qunari body, a female dwarf body, and a male dwarf body. And that's it.

As I posted just a few hours ago, Mr. Laidlaw explicitly clarified the meaning of his statement.
For the record, I do think his initial statement was poorly worded. But the answer is right there.

Yeah I think someone also stated that a few pages back, but people either are not reading it or not believing it.

Yeah, lol at them not having a fat female body type. Nothing could be worse than being a fat woman apparently.

Do people even bother to read the first page ? <_<
Sorry to disappoint everyone, but the OP's conclusion as the one of the interviewer is flawed.A forumite asked Mr. Laidlaw if he meant 4 disctinctive body types for each race or 4 for all races. The answer was 2 for each race, one male model and one female. In the end, you'll be able to modify only the face, as in the previous games.
Here's a link to the conversation from the DA Tweeter thread .
I don't even know why this thread is still open. People that don't read the first pages get confused by that stupid and incorrect article and confuse other people on their turn.
Once and for all there is a total of 8 body types. 4 for each gender. 2 for each race.

We will have facial customization, which we have always had. We do not have body customization, which we have never had. There is one body model per race/gender variant.
