Best game for LARPing a mage-dominance character is Skyrim. Take over the guild and go crazy.

Every guild everywhere else>Every guild in Skyrim

Yeah, but it's pretty easy to become archmage in Skyrim.  Hence, the suggestion: straight to the power-trippin'.

@eluvianix: That's expensive - mages are free.

Besides - it's kinda like bear/deer hunts - just culling the population before things get out of hand.

No, I don't believe that (someone's bound to be outraged).

What If I don't want to be a grey warden? What if I don't want to be a spectre? What if I don't want to be a jedi? Play a different game.

For those who don't want to become the leader of an ancient extremely powerful organization to battle demons that threaten the world Bioware will include the option of becoming a turnip farmer instead where you can upgrade your farm with chicken and pigs and battle bugs that threaten your harvest.

Beetleborgs too?

...I loved that show.

Then it's probably safe to say don't bother buying DAI...:P

Bioware has to have restrictions somewhere or they would never be able to release the game. It's nice to have as many choices as possible but they must have a cutoff point somewhere. Some of y'all would probably have your whips cracked and ready to go on Bioware if you were heading development.

Then someone in the Chantry/x-Order shall kick your punk ass out of their territory and you'll lose lots of cool contents!

Not wanting to be a Warden didn't change much for me. Sometimes you just dont get a choice in things.

Nothing beats becoming archmage when all you know how to cast is novice spells.

Being Harbinger as a Mage or Guildmaster as a Warrior.

Was there one battle in origins where that retreat thing happened and you got thrown back in a cell? Was it in some mansion near the end? I can't remember.

Yeah, that was where you're rescuing Anora and Ser Cauthrien stops you. Surrender or lose the fight and you wake up in a cell and get a cool sidequest. :)

The battle itself is horrendously skewed, however, with Cauthrien much more difficult to defeat than she is later in the game (should you fighter her again).

I think that would work for encounters here and there, totally. But there are a lot of battles in these games. And, lots of places where retreat doesn't really work.

And as noted, so many battles can be dubbed as filler material it'd be impractical to have the story reflect it if you failed each one.

Heck, it'd also be impractical if you repeatedly managed to run away and never got killed. :P Death should still happen sometimes, but better and more creatively than it tends to be now.

What if I want to become the leader of the Mages on the ongoing conflict war between the seekers/templars.. Will we have the opportunity to choose this option, and give the Inquisitor postion to one of our companions like Cassandra?

my favorite type of Bioware fan. This is why BSN is a laughingstock.

As I understood it part of being the inquisitor in this game is to find out the cause of the conflict in addition to solving the other problems of the game (fade, the actual war etc).

I hope you can oppose both sides and destroy both the mages and chantry.

Uh that is just your opinion and your opinion only. And tell me this... whats wrong with giving leadership to one of my companions? Don't you think Cassandra would be a great Inquisitor? She has far more experience with handling with military type of enviorment, and her titles proves it too.

Exit the game and write a fanfiction about it. Problem solved.

They're not going to make an entirely different game just for you, man. It's really that simple. Just like nobody's going to go and alter the plot of Lord of the Rings for me, even though I think it's pretty much the ****tiest book ever.

Although, strangely, they don't seem to have any problem mangling The Hobbit beyond all recognition.

What if you didn't want to be the Warden? Or Dragonborn? Or Bhaalspawn?

Games always frame their protagonists as SOMETHING. Some games do less than others, but I think their story usual suffers and/or is very different from Bioware's stories (i.e. they let you create the story in your imagination but not much actually happens in the game story-wise).

not being Dragonborn was easy: don't go see the greybeards and just do other quest chains.  You had one weird shout which you could avoid if you liked, and 'just' help one side or the other win the civil war, then take over most of the guilds, become the best assassian ever etc etc. Without touching the main quest past your escape.

Then you're just going to have to suck it up and play as an Inquisitor with a mage bias.

No, because a person like her, with strong ties to the chantry and a background working as a Seeker doesn't have the impartiality the job requires.

Heh. Well, there's a limit to how much freedom you can get in a computer based RPG.

Besides, I'm assuming that circumstances will give your protagonist the required motivation and reasons to do what he does.

And who knows, you might get your wish *in addition* to being the inquisitor.

well, that would be something (i would love to be able to delegate some stuff - and depending on who is chosen for what responsibility the outcome is different (to quote an extreme: send a mage as an ambassador to the templars or a templar to the mages (lean back and watch fireworks ^^))

greetings LAX
ps: i don't think we will get the option (and to be frank: this time around i don't want it (i would have loved to ditch the grey wardens, yes, but only because of the taint and shortened livespan, not because of the resposibility, power and freedom you get!)
