No one wants to be a side character. Your leading the Inquisition. Desire to do so is irrelevant. My Dailish Elf didn't want to be a warden but was forced into it. You learn to get over it. My Shepard didn't want the responsibility of a Specter. But you get over it.

This isn't like Skyrim where you can do what you want. This is a Story about the Inquisitor. You are the Inquisitor.

well, i would have loved to "not get over it" in DA:O (hell, i would have loved to be able to play for your own goals and kill every warden you come across in revenge for forcing the joining (if there is no way out of it - note: i would have liked to fight the blight regardless of being a warden, i mean ditching one lonely grey warden should not be a problem (especially for a mage: petrify Duncan and run as fast as you can, after leaving the tower of course) - you would probably end up in lothering, were you meet Leliana and later Alistair and Morrigan :) (now the story would continue as normal)

greetings LAX

DA:I is taking a lot of cues from Skyrim, so I assume you will become the leader of every major group in the world after running a few errands.

Personally i'd love to be able to say "no" to becoming Inquisitor and get a game over cutscene of how screwed Thedas gets because you refused, for example, in Original War you can refuse to enter the time machine, then you get a cutscene of the protagonist getting married, having kids....and then the russians take over the world

I would not look to Bioware for a game for dozens of variations that diverges from the story.. Just enjoy the story, and if you want a game with that kind of variation go into game desgin.

Well you were warden only in name at least you could be you weren't forced into being warden you were forced only into stoping blight motives were up to you that same for baldurs gate that had plenty of reason from saving your best friend to lust for power or just will to survive. So you ended without holding any responsibilities you could just laugh it and do whatever you like.Mass effect sorry but that was only hybrid of rpg and shooter there were only 2 characters you could play renegade or paragon you could try play otherwise but even game was punishing you for doing that.

uh, don't like that.
I presume you would have let the darkspawn win.
I liked DAO as it was.
Being the warden was special, being hawke, blah, being the Inquisitor, I hope it has that special feeling once again.:kissing:

I do.  I'm legitimately sick of leading everything.  Being the leader of yet another large group is actually one of the biggest things I'm not looking forward to in DA:I.  Not all of my characters are leaders, so I either need to not make those characters or fumble through reasons why my shy mage is commanding armies, confidently barking orders at subordinates.

In a party-based game, your character pretty much needs to be the leader of a small group, but why do we always have to be the leader of everything?

If you don't want to play a game with choices and leadership, I would suggest you avoid video games which make it overwhelmingly clear there's going to be a focus on choices and leadership.

I still wish there'd been a scene in DA:O where you could refuse to drink from the Joining cup, and Duncan would shank you.

Oh my god that would've been perfect!

DA:I needs scenes like TW2 where NPCs have enough of your bull****.

Which is all of them, which is the problem.

What if I want to become the leader of the Mages on the ongoing conflict war between the seekers/templars.. Will we have the opportunity to choose this option, and give the Inquisitor postion to one of our companions like Cassandra?

To bloody bad, you'll be the inquisitor and you'll damn well like it. You'll work for the chantry and help them to crush all the mages and every time you pick a dialogue option supporting the mages your character will instead commit suicide.

Maker no! Not that! Anything but being force to work for the Chantry! I wish to choose the option to undergo the R.o.T if I was force to work for the Chantry.

Can be arranged.
Once that is done however, your character gets only one conversation option - to agree with everything a templar sez.

I am actually curious how involved the chantry will be. Heck, the Inquisition symbol even resembles the symbols of the templars, seekers, and chantry. Plus, it seems to be intending for Cassandra to be the right-hand woman who's at least an ex-seeker.

NOOoooo :(

I really hated that with Skyrim. Everyone worshipping you, trusting you by default and ascending you to godhood after saving the cat fluffy down from a tree and getting some potions for a random shopkeeper. And lets not forget the mage guild... "Hi new mage, lets go to an excavation" then "You were destined for this..." and suddenly you are archmage wondering WTF happened.

I really, reeeeeeally hate it when the writers makes NPCs into Ego-dispensers for insecure teenager players. I want to work for my elevation, not be *A*kissed to death and elevated to guildmaster for having done some menial and trivial tasks.

No you won't.

Afraid so, you'll be helping them rebuild into a force to be reckoned with.. You will make them much more powerful than they initially were so much so that all the Monarchies of thedas will be abolished and The chantry will control everything and everyone. And upon discovery all mages will be executed. All thanks to your Inquisitor, you have no choice in the matter im afraid

Heh. Well, there's a limit to how much freedom you can get in a computer based RPG.

Besides, I'm assuming that circumstances will give your protagonist the required motivation and reasons to do what he does.

And who knows, you might get your wish *in addition* to being the inquisitor.

This seems most likely to me.  I can't imagine that you wouldn't have opportunity to do pro-mage stuff along the way.
