Hello guys, I read that if I do 1 to 3 missions between opening the Omega 4 relay and traveling trough it will result into half of my crew dying. Here is my situation, I just installed the IFF on my ship and it triggered a whole scene with out completing Legions loyalty mission. My question is, (and it might be noob one), does installing the IFF device automatically open the Omega 4 relay, thus, resulting in half of my crew dying since i have not completed Legions loyalty mission? Also, what happens if half of my crew dies? Thanks.
Help out a noob playing Mass Effect 2

Usually Loyalty missions > Cerberus crew, in the long run(me3). Too many factors to discuss here.
If you don't mind spoilers, checkout http://masseffect.wi...s/Mass_Effect_2
Check each crew and squad members profile for consequences.
Can also Fix in new games+ mode by doing reaperIFF last, or use save game editor. Should time and satisfaction be an issue.

After u installed the IFF you must do Legion's loyalty mission straight away, any mission that u intend to do must be done before the collectors board the Normandy, otherwise it will result in crew members' deaths. Installation of IFF takes time, and Miranda or EDI would advice you to take a shuttle (In reality there is no shuttle, u are still using the ship to navigate through the galaxy), so it does not open the relay straight away, I am not sure if you have encountered a bug when u said the initial installation triggered the whole scene.
Generally, the game allows you to complete Legion's Loyalty mission without triggering collector boarding scene. Again I would advice u doing Legion's mission right after the "stepping into the shuttle" cinematics, or, u have to make a decision between keeping Legion or the Normandy crew
I think u can google for ME2 ending Suicide Mission Tree and u can find out what happens with different situations

I have tried many different situations so I say to you that finish any loyalty mission (except Tali's, if you are planning to take Legion to her loyalty mission) before going to get the IFF. When you get it it will install very soon sometimes without being able to do any mission. After getting the IFF, the game only allows you do Legion's and Tali's loyalty missions without sacrificing the crew. Other missions will result in crew's lost. You can also check the wikia page. It tells everything that you should and shouldn't do:

If you pick up Legions loyalty quest you get 2 missions with the IFF installed, then you get the abductions. Those missions can be anything, but if you do Legions quest first, it will trigger the abductions as well.

Once you get the IFF the next time you go to use the Galaxy Map you will trigger a scene where EDI tells you the IFF is ready, Shepard boards a shuttle, and the Collectors board the ship. There is an exception to this, however. If you have ANY active loyalty quests in your journal, then it takes up to two missions before the kidnapping occurs. Thus, you can do Legion's loyalty mission IF you activate and talk to him BEFORE using the Galaxy Map. Once his loyalty mission is in your journal using the Galaxy Map will not trigger the kidnapping unless you have already done two missions since getting the IFF.
Losing your crew has nothing to do with getting the IFF. Rather, you lose none, some, or all of your crew depending on how many missions you do AFTER the kidnapping. If you do not do any missions after the kidnapping but head straight for the Omega 4 relay, you lose no one. If you do at least one mission but less than 3 (?) you lose Kelly and Gabby. Any longer and you lose everyone.
It is not necessary to do everyone's loyalty mission before going through the Omega 4 relay. It is still entirely possible for everyone to survive with a number of the crew not being loyal. In fact, the only way to leave Zaeed to burn at the refinery is to save his loyalty mission until after the Omega 4 mission. I usually skip both Jack's and Jacob's loyalty missions because their loyalty makes no difference in ME3. Also, should you get the kidnapping but you have not yet done Legion's loyalty mission, save it for after the Suicide Mission (if you want to save all the crew). You can do it afterwards. Use a loyal Tali or Kasumi in the vents. And be sure to leave two of Zaeed, Grunt, Garrus behind to hold the door when you go to fight the final boss. Do not bring Legion with you.

Doesn't seem like the OP is interested in returning.
The reason I said earlier that there's too much to get into before, is because... even if you don't have a squad members loyalty done, they can still survive the final mission. Provided they aren't used for specific task(s), and aren't in you final attack party. With exceptions. Without knowing a lot more specifics about the OP's play through, we could end up leading him/her down the garden path.
Besides, several of the ME2 characters have issues tied to their ME2 loyalty, that resurface in me3. Which is a whole other bag of cats to figure out how to open.
Think, it could take less time to just reload an older save then try to communicate and make contingencies for all the finer minutiae. Cold as it sounds, Just seems easier for the player to either:
Do it 'right' (+27 paragon)
or
use the editor (+22 renegade)
