I clicked on a link a while back that showed some cheats for ME. It said something about backing up my profile in case using cheats made my profile invalid. I usually go to gamefaqs for my cheats, so I had not thought about this possibility until now. Does anyone know how to check to see if your account will be invalid for importing into ME2 short of waiting and seeing?
Will cheating invalidate my profile?

I think that the only cheats that will effect your save game are the ones that skip in game decisions. Such as the console command to skip Noveria. That's what I've heard anyway.

Cheating does not make your profile here on the Social site invalid. I used lots of cheats on my DAO characters and nothing really happened. Some even accidently earned me some achievements.
Cheating in ME1 could make your savegames unable to be imported in ME2.

I hope you're right Lazerfingers, because I really do not want to play through ME 6 times on a new profile when I should be basking in the awesomeness of ME2...

How could cheating ruin a ME1 save game? Even if you use the "ghost" command to bypass huge portions of the major planets, when you finish the mission, or a large portion of it, the game assumes you've completed everything and marks it as complete. So I suppose the question should be this: "If you skipped a decision in ME1 that ME2 will import and it isn't there, what will happen?" And if such a question was asked, I would have no idea.

I've just heard that using the console *may* invalidate either your save game or your entire profile, and I've heard theories that the game flags files that have cheats used in them. I remember in KOTOR 2 Obsidian put a big "CHEATS" label over the thumbnail for your savegames and I'm pretty sure Bioware did that in KOTOR 1, so they could definitely do something like that in ME. I don't really know why Bioware would want to punish someone so severely for using cheats or if they just wanted to warn us of the possible repercussions of doing something like neochikara mentioned.

Well, I really hope even a single use or even just enabling the console doesn't do anything stupid like that. I had to use the ghost command once to get my Shepard unstuck on my otherwise legit, "ideal" file that I will be importing into ME2 on release day. If ME2 told me I couldn't just because of that one thing, I would definitely be miffed.

I'm pretty sure a Bioware programmer said on the old forums that they are not specifically putting anything in to punish cheaters. But they also aren't doing anything to stop cheats from breaking your export file.
So avoid doing anything that you couldn't have done without cheating: skipping missions; going over level 60 - if that's even possible; bringing dead characters back to life; etc. Story flags, basically. But if you cheated in that armor you wanted rather than scouring the shops, or gave yourself experience points, it probably won't cause problems.

Alright, thanks. That really puts my mind at ease. Now All I have to do is finish my second playthrough exactly the same as my first and on an easier difficulty because I kinda forgot about the whole level 60 thing.

Cheating will not invalidate your profile.
If you used cheats to get achievements then that achievements will not be transferred to ME2.

This is what I remember hearing, too.
