I purchased Sims 3 from Steam during the Steam sales and I would like to get uni life, Its cheaper on the Origin site compared to Steam which the price is bull****, so does that mean I need to download Origin to play uni life?

Its off the site: http://www.thesims.c...h-uk-g-purchase

I also have Sims 3 on Steam, won't that conflict with an Origin Sims 3 expansion pack? I never needed Origin for Sims 3 despite it being an EA game?

Could I download the expansion pack, uninstall Origin and still play it? I don't need Origin, Steam does everything for me. If not, is there an alternative site to download digital games?

It will, because Steam and Origin create their own folders where they install your games. What you can try to do is tell both programs to install games in the exact same place and hope that'll solve the issue.

Everyone needs a little Origin in their lives. It's like Steam, but better!

It just seems like a pointless effort just to play a damn expansion pack. What good will it do me to have both Steam and Origins? Don't they take up a lot of memory as well?

My sarcasm meter is strangely going off as well...

Every game that uses Origin is a instant deal breaker nowadays personally but if you have no problem with it and it's cheap now so why wait.

Conflicting issuess with my steam Sims 3 copy and Origins Sims 3 expansion packs, pointless to download an entire program just for an expansion pack, time consuming when I just want to play the game now with no hassle and no hoops to jump through etc...

And the christmas steam sales of course.

Looking through the forums, apaprently I can't play the base game from Steam and the expansion pack from Origins.

Okay, what if I download from GAME? I just realised you can download games from it. Will I need Origin for that? I'm already starting to hate digital games.

If you don't get it from Steam, it's probably not going to work with a Steam version. Possibly you might be able to register your copy on Origin if you've got a serial code, but then you'd probably have to re-download the whole game which is probably going too far to be worth it.

Origin really isn't that bad in general, though.

No, there is absolutely nothing wrong with Origin. It's just a smaller version of steam.

I have no issues with Origin, I just hate the amount of effort I have to put into playing an expansion pack.

You can redeem the serial key from the Steam version in Origin to get a download copy from there.  Origin can also check to see if you have a version already installed and can run the game from that directory (when I installed Origin it say in my account that I had Dragon Age 2 registered and added that and played it without having to re-install, and when I registered Dead Space 2 and Mass Effect 2 it again saw the game was already installed on my PC and ran the game from the existing install).

Steam may cause an overlay issue but I can't see anything to severe.

Also as a heads up games that were released before Origin was officially started do not need the Origin client to be running in order to play the game.  This can be applied to some Sims3 games and expansions but some of the later ones were released with Origin integration.

One thing you might do is find your Steam key code for the game (right-click in your Steam Library and pick view CD key, or google other ways if it doesn't show up there) and activate the game on Origin. Then you can download it on Origin, and unistall it on Steam. That way it won't take up any more space on your hard drive. And you can download Origin expansions.

In addition, I salute you for being willing to pay those insane, utterly insane, as-much-as-a-new-game prices for expansion packs (*coughDLCcough*). I'm interested in them, but you won't catch me paying twenty bucks for new clothes and buidlings, no sir.

But try that in my first paragraph. if you can't find the key tell us, and I'll look it up (I've had to deal with something similar).

I only want university life. I've decided to wait for the Steam sales and see if I can reduce the 30 quid price to something like 10 quid if I'm lucky.

Is this a serious question?

If so, then yes, I am at student residence but not at the moment. Student life is ****, I'm the only British guy in our room so nobody speaks English to me so I get left out.
