You saved him because you followed your own moral compass. That forced you to save him.

You could have let him die if you wanted to. There was the option of not having him ( except for noble origin ).
It was just that you couldn't let him die. That does't mean that it was forced on you. You forced the dog on yourself.

Indeed it is my own moral compass.

It still feels forced on me, because I am actually that afraid of dogs, so not being able to get rid of it is actually hard. I will be completely fine with it if in da:I; just ignoring the animal don't cause something to die.

I will take a giant spider pet over a dog animal any day. I will also take no pet over a dog animal any day. I will take anything over a dog pet.

And I know I am being completely unreasonable. I just really, really don't like dogs.

If it bothers you that much to have a totally harmless loyal dog in your party why not mod it into something else?
There are tons of those mods.

How can you be scared of a mabari?
He's bonded to you he would only protect you.
Some of the biggest dogs are the most sweet and lovable to their master like wolfhounds or great danes.

How can some people be afraid of spiders? You can kill them by stamping on them.

Phobia's are not reasonable.

And I am completely aware that the game should not cater to me. Yet every day there goes where the Inqustior doesn't get a marabi is a good day.

I will be cool with anything else, really.

Edit. And I can't mod. I am on ps3/4.

Best way to get over a fear is to confront it though,so mabari is useful!
Never understood the spider fear either, they are annoying but not scary.

Some are. >.> Like that fricken Wandering Spider that hides in bananas at grocery stores.

If that bites you you have to go to the ER. :o

I used to be afraid of hieghts, but I started jumping off things, going on ferris wheels and things like that.
Just tell yourself,I must not fear.Fear is the mind-killer.
Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration.
I will face my fear.I will permit it to pass over me and through me.
And when it has gone past I will turn the inner eye to see its path.Where the fear has gone there will be nothing......Only I will remain.

Maybe we won't have an animal companion at all. I rarely took my Mabari about with me. I'd be fine with or without one, they're not going to give us a plethora of animal companions to choose from, Dr. Dolittle. Imagine all the time that would waste writing and drawing all those animals when they could focus on the characters instead? OR we could have an evil Ser Pounce A Lot.

You realize phobias are actual mental conditions, right? Some are so bad they have to be treated with medication. I'm terrified of clowns myself, only I respond different(irrationally violent).

On-topic, I'd personally rather not have a mabari ourselves. Imagine having an Ash Warrior companion who has a mabari that tags along with him. I think it would be a good change of pace for the whole pet thing.

I can't have just one - I need a kennel of Mabari for this one.

And some Ash Warriors to go with them.

Whatever dude, it's a case-by-case basis and what you think works for you might not work for work for someone else.

For spiders : some might kill you by bitting you in your sleep. Even the not so venomous ones can cause an alergic reaction that can kill someone, but for me they are adorable:wub:.

When it comes to phobias : they can be broken with some guts. For example, I had a serious phobia regarding snails. Yes, snails - those tiny dusgusting little buggers. When one of my cousins was 4 he got one from our grandmother garden and he started to come with it towards me. I told him to stay away from me in a calm tone, but he still continued to come near me. I simply started to run an scream like a little girl. The worst part was that he runned after me so I had to run in the house and then I locked myself in the bathtroom because he followed me inside. Until his mother came after him, I just stood there and kept the door locked. I was 14 or 15.

One day I was annoyed by the fact that I had this phobia so when I found a snail I simply took him and put him in my hand and let him move on it. After that no more phobia for me (Still, I wouldn't touch the ones without shells. The are simply disgusting and they make me want to puke )

So this kind of things can be resolved and what better way than using a pixel made dog ;)? You might even go further down the rode and interact with a real life dog. I recommend you to start with the smaler one like a bichon  or a corgi .

Honestly I'd rather not have a Mabari this time around. Hawke having a Mabari in DA2 didn't make a lot of sense, so unless there was an actual good reason for the Inquisitor to have one, then don't just throw one in for the sake of it.

No problem. Doggies are my friends. The half breeds from my neighborhood take turns in sleeping in front of my apartement door. I must be careful to not accidentaly hit them when I'm going somewhere in the morning or when I come home late at night.

I would really like another mabari. The first one was Loki. The second was Thor. Now it's a little Odin time.:D
