NWMax and Exploding Elephant head

OK. So. I'm looking at Draygoth's Mounts, (project) and I wanted to make some improvements to the elephant. I think the elephant is too small, and I think we should have an elephant without the blanket and saddle in addition to the one kitted out for riding.

Problem:
When I import the elephant (c_elephant_mt.mdl) into NWMax the head explodes. Happens everytime.

So I go to the NW Max panel. I click on the Model Loading Subpanel. Then import settings are as follows: import geoms+anims is checked, reset controllers is checked.

Model takes a very long time to import.
Then head comes in exploded. One of the meshes is much larger than it should be and detached from another mesh.

Just looking over it some, it looks like the pivots are messed up in a lot of spots. The super animation is putting them right though I think. Why the head is so big I would love to know too. Delete the stuff and freeze the base and scale it to 200% and came out ok in toolset and some testing in game dm controlled.

Update: OK I think it something to do with the trimeshes scale. I deleted them on the head and tusks and then exported out and updated big head was in game. Then  I scaled them 60% and everything seems to be fixed.

One theory is he didn't know what he was doing early on : ). You will most likely find that the scale line in the text of the model has been altered. I didn't know how to scale model parts back then so I used that process a lot. Bad idea but it worked and now I know better. sorry guys.
