I would have liked to see Cullen, Seamus, Arishok and Flemeh as options. But my fave would be Aveline. I wanted to girlmance her. ![]()

Aveline
Isabela's promiscuity was funny enough until they started injecting the STD jokes. Sheesh. A bit overboard there. And talking to Merrill reminded me of dating a young girl with a drug habit. Like I had a choice between enabling them or being dragged down into their world.

Varric - but not an emotional LI, wouldn't want his personality to change.
Cullen - Primarily for the history - he's been involved sine the beginning.
Petrice - but it would go south pretty quick
Norah - romanciong someone who has absolutely no other plot involvement might be interesting
Karl - If there was a "save Karl" option and then later a romance.

I tried and tried to romance Aveline without success during my first walkthrough (but I must say that I found this "ineffectual" Romance incredibly amusing and just as interesting as an actual Romance) but If I were to say just one character, I would have loved to have the possibility to talk Ketojan out of his suicide at the end of the quest Shepherding Wolves and then romance him.
Heck, he was a far more intriguing character in his two minute cutscene than some actual companions are during the entire game. In fact I kinda headcanon'd that my Lady Hawke had a super-crush on him and kept his Saarebas pendant close to her all the times.

Meredith, my GOD when I first saw her I was blown away. Her opening scene was so badass.
Or the Arishok.

Even that redheaded cut-purse in Hightown was blown away.

It would be hilarious if in forming a relationship with Meredith, attempting to provide balance to the Mage/ Templar conflict, you get dragged into her psycho drama with no good resolution.

Solivitus (formari herbalist), the red-haired man with the perpetual black eye (next to the bar at Hanged man), Feynriel, Saemus Dumar, Aden (the dockmaster's assistant), Seneschal Bran (despite being a douche), Sabin, Lilley (coterie woman), Alain, Delilah Howe, Jalen (love his accent), Cullen of course (reasonable and level-headed for a Templar plus he got like 100x hotter since origins).

So true. I think I said this before that i could be logical and dull. Isabela gave me the feeling that she had more lovers than the white pages. The STD was a real red flag and I would have to think Hawk was desperate to go there.
As for Merrill, I could not even relate to her illogical thought process. "Hawk I want you to go with me so I can talk to this demon". I'm like, please tell me I don't have to do this. You put it best: Merrill reminded me of dating a young girl with a drug habit.

Arishok and Flemeh for a rocky romance. Varric and Aveline for a stable relationship.

Different strokes and such. The only issue I had was Isabela getting frustrated when you don't let her bang Zevran in Act 3 (I think) since by then she's told you that she only returned in Act 2 because of you. She's pretty much past the promiscuity trait at that point elsewhere in the story, so it felt strange. But I feel that Isabela gains a lot more character development from the romance than Merrill, which is a big reason why I prefer it.

I agree, this is why Isabela's romance is my favorite one.
I agree that Varric would be an awesome option.
