Actually, I do this on purpose in Origins--I don't like any of the romance options for my characters. I suppose I could do it in DA2 as well but I'm reasonably fond of Fenris and it seems mean to do that to Hawke.

Funny that.  I adore Alistair but can't seem to get into any of the DA2 men. Other than Varric that is. Different strokes, I guess.

People use wikis on their first playthrough?

Yes.

I'm an unashamed meta-gamer. I want to know what the outcomes are so that I can make the story I want, and that's a totally valid way to play.

Same. But mostly if I am given a choice where I don't know what the consequences are.

This would have stunned me if I hadn't seen a couple folks on the ME boards back the style.

My first quest will be to kill some rats in the cellar of an inn and get paid 2 silver pieces for it by the innkeeper.

2 silver!?  Luxury! We used to kill rats just so we could eat!

I do plan to avoid looking up anything... even though I will have to beat my inner completionist into submission. But no romance? No way. I'll do my best to hook up with someone, if only because I believe the Inquisitor will need some R&R.

And you can be damn sure I'll spend hours walking around and making screenshots (and spamming my friends with them afterwards).

Ooooo speaking of R&R I wonder what the tavern and brothel names are going to be!?

I'll probably go for the romances, if I like any of the companions. The no wiki part is easy. The only things I've been using the wiki for is things like "Summoning Sciences" (Origins) or "Enigma of Kirkwall (DA2.) I occasionally go to check my progress on quests like that, but truthfully I've only used it on this most recent play through (I play 2 playthroughs back to back once a year.)

I do see your point about the romances though. It is way too easy to start shaping the game around them, rather than RP. I'll just be prepared to accidentally tick off one of my companions based upon my choices.

You don't need to worry too much making choices for the sake of your LI  When Bioware decides to push a partner on your character, it takes some effort to prevent that.

If you want to romance a character; talk to them.   Call them names, belittle their choices and curse their loved ones if you want; you will just the Rivalry versoin of the romance.
If you don't want to romance them then you are going to have to kill them,Image IPB but even that might not work.

1st playthrough will be without wiki unless i get utterly stuck.
If my character fits with a LI he/she will of course pursue that character. That's part of the roleplaying experience. I certainly won't actively damage the experience by refusing to partake of certain elements of the content despite the fact it would suit the character i'm roleplaying.

is to go through your very first complete playthrough with NO WIKI and NO ROMANCE.

This will be me. Although I'll be making videos in addition to the screenshots.

Fitting with the character is only half the potential for fun. What I really enjoyed was doing Leiliana on my Chaotic Evil playthrough. (Especially when I defiled the Ashes in front of her, managed to coerce her into not attacking me, and then jumped her bones when we got back to camp.)

I had to use the Wiki to play Origins because I got totally lost after Ostagar and couldn't work out what to do for ages - until I read the Wiki. Also I found that I missed out on quests and stuff unless I did them in the right order, an order I couldn't know without reading the Wiki. I found this to be true for all the BW games - DAO, DA2, ME1 through 3. None of them were exactly intuitive for their quest and sub-quest arcs. I did keep what I read on the Wiki to a minimum, though, to try and keep some degree of surprise at what was coming next.

I think apart from the lack of an intuitive, for me, quest path, the next big problem was being given so many quests all at once, especially ones I couldn't do until I got past, in DAO, the Landsmeet. Why give me those quests at the beginning of the game, or have a nearly end-game component to complete them? Nothing at all intuitive about that.

Actually, I'm pretty sure this is being decided by Canadians. (Or, if you meant me, I live in the US.)
