I just started a new playthrough, this time as an infiltrator. I'm building shep without any sniper rifle or headshot bonuses, instead focusing on power bonuses. Playing a stealthy mid- to close range killer shep, with tactical cloak>sabotage>M99 Saber is surprisingly fun, so far.  I'm not too far into the game yet.

Shotgun infiltrator is a very popular build, especially in MP.

With 100% shieldgate, there were only max ammo power builds that could one-shot protected targets with SRs, and then only with the Javelin.

Caster CQB infiltrator is a fun way to play. Has been since ME2.

I made two such Infiltrators in ME2 and will be bringing them into ME3 soon. One will probably use the Raider or Piranha and the other will have a Harrier. The AR one will likely have either Lash or Stasis, while I haven't quite decided on a BP for the SG one - probably Prox.Mine.

All my infiltrators have been snipers up until now, and I hardly ever used the powers, focusing instead on weapon and ammo damage. This time sneaking up and sabotaging turrets so they can do the dirty work is great fun.

Trying to decide on a bonus power, though. Right now I have inferno grenades and I dunno, it's fun but something's lacking.

^If you're planning to migrate to more of a power focus, try taking a BP that detonates, like Prox.Mine, Lash or Flare. The Infiltrator already has strong priming powers like Incineration, Sabotage, Cryo/Disruptor Ammo and Sticky Grenade (w. ammo), so you really only need something to detonate those. Also, Tac.Cloak pretty much rules out CD times, so you can run whatever active power you want.

I have a sniperless Infiltrator that uses Cloak, Sabotage, Incinerate, and a shotgun with (Squad) Cryo Ammo. I use Cryo Ammo instead of Disruptor Ammo since I do not want it overriding any fire explosion I may want to make. Here is an example. Not my best stuff, but it may give you some ideas.

I love these types of threads.

Your concept is like an engineer with tactical cloak and ammo powers instead of drone and turret.

I just thought of a crazy build: Glass Cannon infiltrator.

-zero points in fitness
-maxed out everything else
-preferably CQC/shotgun style.

Hmmmmm.....

@ Locutus_of_BORG: Thanks for the tips. I decided to give Flare a try as a bonus power, and thanks to the tactical cloak cooldown bonus, it's working out quite well.

@ RedCaesar97: Great vid, thanks. Definitely gives me some ideas. I've only just begun experimenting with the different tech combos, and it seems like disruptor ammo is pretty good for tech bursts, but yeah, fire and cryo explosions are way more fun.

@ Abraham_uk: I'd much rather play a sentinel with a tactical cloak subbed in for tech armor, but...alas.

Thanks for the replies everyone, this is good stuff, and appreciated. Does the Scorpion ammo work as a detonator?

No. Only as a primer.

Yeah Disruptor Ammo has a knack for disrupting your own power combos lol. I actually try to avoid using it in favor of Incendiary Ammo whenever possible.

As for interfering with fire combos, doesn't cryo also override that?

It depends on the proc chance really. In theory they can all override the others, although Disruptor is the only one that can prime on everything.

It's great fun.  I gave up on the sniper thing in ME2 after playing as a Vanguard.  Like a Vanguard, an infiltrator can use tactical cloak to sneak up on small groups of enemies and/or assume a superior tactical position.  The nice thing about an infiltrator is that you can do this wthout a specific target.  In ME3 this is even more effective due to the extremely long cloak duration, and ability to use powers or grenades while cloaked.

My SP build was centered on the use of enhanced cloak, Wraith, and cryo ammo.  Then for midrange combat I brought a heavy pistol with eqpt and ammo power dependent on situation, squadmates, and bonus power.  Since midrange is fairly easy in this game (even on Insanity), the choice of specialization depends mostly on what kind of power combos you want to unleash on your hapless enemies (freezing, burning, electrocution, etc).   Mix up and have fun.

A sniperless infiltrator is interesting, I'm now playing ME3 for the 2nd time with an infiltrator. I think that just sniping everything is pretty easy, even on Insanity. I just blow through every mission without major trouble. I bought the Black Widow after Palaven and doing some smaller missions. It's pretty cool wiping everything in my path.

The Shotgun Infiltrator is much harder to play, being in the middle of the action all the time. Then again, I always like sniping. I just max headshots and everything, usually bringing Liara and Garrus with me. I'm thinking about the Dominate bonus power, any input?

1 word: Claymore

a hotkey for empty sticky grenades makes for very easy reload cancelling.

I played a bomber build using Sticky Grenades, Proximity Mines and The Scorpion to go behind enemy lines and cause havoc before repositioning. Not the most powerful guy, but it was good fun and used Tactical Cloak to it's fullest.

An inventive use for the Infiltrator.:wizard:

Yeah it was good fun, thanks Abraham. I raised Proximity Mine as a discussion here to determine the optimal evolution of the power and had some good results from the advice. It wasn't the fastest method of enemy takedown and I'm sure I could have used my squadmates to better effect but the method was fun all the same.

I've had a ridiculous amount of fun as a power-focused Infiltrator, such that I can't imagine playing the game any other way, and my first playthrough was as a Vanguard. I have no idea what to play in a future playthrough.

Build?

The most fun I had playing a sniper-less Infiltrator was trying to role play Crysis. I used cloak, but never fired out of it and only used it to reposition. As a bonus power, I picked Fortification (for Armor) and purged it whenever I wasn't using it. After that, I only used Sticky Grenades and literally no other power. If pretending to use the Predator Bow, I'd use the Chakram Launcher; otherwise I'd use the Cerberus Harrier (with extended mag to make it black) as a substitute SCAR.

I used Squad Cryo Ammo, Incinerate built for single-target damage, Tac. Cloak built for power damage. Sabotage, Fitness and Sticky Grenade can wait. Bonus Powers should be Fortification (if in a new playthrough), Flare later on, Slam might make an acceptable substitute. Flare's so good despite it not priming for explosions on its own or combining with Infiltrator powers because Javik and Liara can prime it and it has amazing AoE radius.

This combo lets you ensure easy combos at no effort for picking off weaklings fast, while setting up biotic charges or sabotage-incinerate combos on tougher foes.

That just sounds like an Engineer with Tactical Cloak. You could put Fortification on an Engineer and do the same thing.

It is pretty similar, at least initially, but as strange as it sounds the sticky grenades are what make it the most different (it's just that it takes them so damn long to be useful - before the rank 6 radius evolution, I find them too easy to mess up). Once you've got your full suite going, it really makes me feel like a saboteur with a thousand tools, including my gun when necessary.

Same here. I tried playing as a sniper infiltrator briefly, but I felt like the sniper scope really limited my vision. Running around as a power-focused Infiltrator with a shotgun is so much more fun.
