As I have nothing better to do at the moment I have decided to get on the US and UK martketplaces and find out which Mass Effect DLC (1,2 and 3) sold the most and in which order. I couldn't find anyway to order DLC by best selling on PSN like you can for Xbox, so if anyone knows how can you link them in this thread and I'll add them to the list, the same goes for those on PC, if you can find similar data add the link here.

Anyway, let's get started!

Xbox Marketplace US

1. From Ashes (Javik in first place, where he belongs)
2. Resurgence
3. Extended Cut
4. Rebellion
5. Earth
6. Kasumi
7. Lair of the Shadow Broker
8. Retaliation
9. Overlord
10. Bring Down the Sky
11. Arrival
12. Reckoning
13. Firepower Pack
14. Equalizer Pack
15. Aegis Pack
16. Pinnacle Station (This piece of crap is listed too high)
17. Alternate Appearance Pack 1 (Mass Effect 2)
18. Leviathan
19. Citadel(Part 2) (Why is this higher than Part 1? It's useless without Part 1)
20. Alternate Appearance Pack 2 (Mass Effect 2)
21. Cerberus Network
22. Omega
23. Citadel(Part 1)
24. Genesis 1 (Mass Effect 2)
25. Firefight Pack
26. Groundside Pack
27. Alternate Appearance Pack (Mass Effect 3)
28. Genesis 2  (Mass Effect 3)

These list's are subject to change

Notes:

1. Why Pinnacle Stattion is so high I will never know, it should be right at the bottom. No offense to people that like it, it's just that it broke my game.

2. Why is Citadel Part 2 higher than Part 1? Did some chancers see that it was free and downloaded it without realsing that you need Part 1 for it to work? I wish i could have seen the smiles fall off their faces. I'm thinking of removing Part 2 from the lists, as it does nothing but tell us that some people are morons and also because it needs Part 1 to work.

3. No surprise to see the Multiplayer DLC so high, it was really popular and fun.

4. Extended Cut and From Ashes being the highest ranking SP DLC's is no surprise either, they are so important to ME3. I would have thought Leviathan would be higher though, then again, i don't think most people actually know what it reveals, or they just don't care.

5. Citadel and Omega being lower than a Appearance Pack, the ME2 weapon packs and the gamebreaker that is Pinnacle Station is depressing. I hope  half price sales help them rise higher. Then again, you would think that most of the people who want them have already bought them, lets hope millions of new fans come in before ME4 releases and boots their standing.

Anyway, enough of my ramblings, let's see what everyone else thinks.

Really? That would be a weird definition of spam.

That's pretty sad about Citadel, if true. But not surprising. It's their best DLC, but for a game many have probably moved on from (and late to the game as well).

Do the From Ashes numbers include the Collector's Edition copies, or are those independent sales?

Wasn't there a claim code that came with the collector's edition? If so, then I'm pretty sure that registers them as sales.

really tho, isn't it all just coincidental those sales figures as they're xbox stuff, as it's consoled and kind of 'pushed' by the console interface? They could also change back and forth according to 'trends and information' of/to gamers and only those xboxers. Makes it trivia that's randomized.

(steam has the same thing, kind of, as 'who's online' at the moment.)

I think it's independest sales, as in ones directly bought from the Xbox Marketplace. I'm not sure if you could buy the Collector's Editions from Live or whether or not codes count.

The multiplayer DLC wasn't only fun, it was free too...

Pinnacle Station might be "high" on the list because it has been around for years to acquire sales. That's my guess or... final thought, sorta what Wayning Star said. Are we sure that XBL's list is a good representative of "Best Selling DLC"? I never took Xbox's list seriously, always thought something could have been wrong or off about them.

Leviathan is way down of the list. It's easily top 5 in the series maybe top three- Citadel DLC, Shadow broker, Overlord and Leviathan. That'd be my picks. I don't know any Mass Effect owners who didn't play Shadow Broker tho. I thought for sure that would be number 1.

Some thoughts:

1) I notice Earth and Rebellion are switched in the two lists. This doesn't make sense. To play MP with Earth you would need to have Rebellion installed already just to be able to play with other folk since they would almost certainly have Rebellion.

2) That the weapons packs are higher ranked that many of the story DLCs seems odd. People trying out guns in SP before using them in MP? People looking for the "I win" gun?

3) Do these lists count the number of down loads, or number of initial purchases? I know when I go shopping in MP I often uninstall many of the DLC before going to the store, then download them again after I am done shopping.

To increase my odds of getting a particular weapon/mod/character/gear. The narrower the selection, the greater the odds of getting what I want.

1. I found that odd as well. I have no idea why that is, it could be that people downloaded a few MP DLC without realising that they need each other to work.

2. That didn't actually surprise me, the guns included in the ME2 weapon packs were as you say "I Win" weapons, the Mattock especially.

3. I would think it would be initial purchase, repeated downloads doesn't sound like a practical way to count sales.

And there's the difference in prices. from Ashes was 1200 quickly going to 800MS, while TLotSB and Citadel  were 1600  and took some time to get to 1200MS
I think that like others already said, from ashes is boosted by the colectors edition code, as it was a day 1 DLC.  My reason for thinking this, is that the list also includes free DLC's. Which means it's based on the number of people who downloaded it, instead of the number of people who payed for it.
Citadel part 2 being higher than part 1, also confirms it, as lots of people had problems downloading part 2 and had to retry several times shortly after launch.

Conventional wisdom is that the number of gamers drops over the course of the DLC cycle. A lot of players were done with ME2 before LotSB dropped. Note that it outperformed Overlord, so quality counts too.

And Citadel outperformed Omega ( going by Pt. 2 standings), reinforcing that logic.
