I think that considering the amount of time spent on it a figure of 3 million would be the minimum I would expect.
How many millions in sales would be a sucess for DAI?

Interesting... So if Dragon Age: Inquisition doesn't sell 5 million+ copies, does that mean that there won't be a 4th DA game? Even if the game is well received by critics and fans/players? Does the same apply to other companies?Angrywolves wrote...

Myself, I wouldn't put too much stock in the overall sales of a game. There could be many factors explaining why a game doesn't sell as well as it's expected to. They could have released the game at a bad time. Maybe the market crashed? Maybe people were finding they didn't have enough money to buy all the games they wanted? Maybe the game was sold for too much money? Maybe the game was hard to find (i.e. poorly distributed)?
For me, DA:I would be a success if the replay value is high (and it will be). Or if it's interesting enough to talk about.

Three+ years of development, release on multiple console generations and platforms and a large amount of work being put into enginge migration?
I'm going to say 5 million is definitely the target number. DA:O estimated sales (around 4 million) would be acceptable, but not the target. DA2 estimated sales (a little over 2 million) will kill the series.
I'm no expert, but I'm no stranger to business, either. If these aren't the rough realities, I'd be pretty surprised.

I doubt even all the Mario games or GTA games would reach those numbers.
It's hard to find a reliable source on total games sales of all time data.
For rpgs alone it's even more difficult, since of course people have different definitions as to what is or isn't an rpg.
The 5 million is probably accurate or very close for an EA game.
Sol I presume that is what EA would like for DAI, at a bare minimum.

Sales make or break the franchise.
And I am supposed to care why? All I care about is whether or not I like the game. If the franchise does not survive then so be it. That happens. I have been through it countless times in the past and the world didn't end.

But really, wouldn't it just come down to how the players feel about it?

Mostly because it being delayed for Mp(which was SE decision mind you) made the project cause more money. SE is to blame.ruggly wrote...
Tomb Raider sold like 3.4 million copies in the first few weeks I believe, yet SE considered that a failure. So yeah..

Ah, didn't know about that. Plus now they're coming out with the Definitive Edition, so something must have gone right.

There are others that care, that's obvious. And if you don't care, then why are you here ?
Obviously some people do care how well the game sells. The world won't end if the game fails, but it's likely the end of the DA franchise.<_<

They'd like 1 million the first month and 2-3 million by the time it ends up in their quarterly report.
Mass Effect 3 managed 3.5 million and is, I believe, BioWare's best selling game. If DA:I could reach those numbers, no one would complain, but I don't think anyone is counting on it.
