Thanks for the test results.

I figure that the DoT would be best vs big bosses, like Atlases, Praetorians, and Geth Primes, but the instant damage is preferred because it could mean the difference of a OHK on Platinum Dragoons. (AP arrows + Graal shot)

Instantaneous damage is better in the long run if you're picking apart the Wave budget of sub bosses, and Banshees go down pretty fast too surprisingly.

i recently acquired the Talon Mercenary and I have no idea how to use him. Perhaps your guide will come in handy. I'll let you know. The preliminary report is that I will fail completely.

I would love to debate the merits of arc pistol vs graal with you argent but i'm away from a PC where I can prepare an intelligent argument right now. With ap rounds wouldn't the arc be similar in ttk versus infantry and slightly superior versus bosses? Do double hits overcome the melee bonus of the bow from the omniblade?

This was my logic behind taking 5b instead of 5a too.

I know now that 5a is significantly better for theoretical DPS (I was given a good explanation about it in a different thread a few months ago), but spike damage tends to be more important in staying alive than long term DPS, because that's what determines how long each mid-level enemy spends shooting at you.

"When the one fights the thousand, he does so one at a time".  He just needs to do it bloody quickly. :P

I did finally try your build. You were there, you know this, and I will give you kudos for it as it actually made the Talon at least a little fun for me.

That button swap that Biower pulled on me for this kit though is a pretty immediate turn off, as I hate using the triggers to aim and shoot ;(

Nice though, Ari :)

So the talon switches no matter what you have controls set as? Nice to know because I am use to r2/l2 for aim and shoot, so I can just switch that before the match incase of host drop and having to try and switch it again. Its not such a concern on wave one, but restarting/dropping in a later wave and id be on the floor before I could switch it.

Also I tried this build a little while back in the old forum days when Argent first posted it, and with the help of jrob6 got to make it work. I like the build and it is fun, but I find the cain mines just too good to pass up.

You have piqued my interest with this talk of the Arc Pistol, Nuke. Gonna have to try it out this weekend. For science!

I would guess melee stunner plus heavy barrel would be the most consistent damage for charged shot plus arrow volley? Cadence takes forever to load though ony phone.

It's just timing.

I prefer the Graal because I usually don't wait for it to be fully charged after my first shot. With 3 Arrows and 3 shots, it flows naturally.

I can't be standing around making sure every shot from the Arc Pistol is charged, since most of the time I'm arrow canceling, cutting down the time it takes to refire my arrows.

Notice in the videos I dodge after almost every one of my arrow shots.

The Graal is more forgiving on landing hits in Close Quarters.

I think it just switches it back to the default controls.

Can't remember if I've said this already, but I use a hybrid bow/mine build. Cain Mines are worth more to me than Concussive Arrows :/

That said, the Hawkeye build is good fun and I'd encourage everyone to try it

But..the Phantom ragdoll is too hilarious Pearl. You should've heard my delighted laugh when I sent a Phantom flying into the air and flopping helplessly on the ground.

I know, it's awesome. You should have heard how hard Pint and I were laughing when we did an arrows-only duo. I just can't justify giving up the pocket nukes for that, though.

Seeing this thread revived made me think of this, and it occurred to me:  I spec a few of my melee kits 66606 and do just fine, why not try something similar on the talon?

I don't know if he'd still regen charges with nothing in the passives, but a 65636 build could have the most important parts of both the traditional build and the robin hood build, at the cost of some additive bonuses to power and weapon damage.

Replace concussive arrows 4b with 4a to compensate, and they'll still ragdoll stuff just as well.  The extra grenades from cain mines will partially replace the missing grenades from 4b and 6b anyway, after all.

The only downsides I can see is a slightly reduced performance from the mines and AP arrows would result in using them up slightly quicker when fighting bosses or kiting spawns into corridors full of booby traps.

Combine that with the slightly lower innate grenade capacity (6 instead of 7), no option to take the quicker regen evo, and the occasional wasted charges from arrow toggling, and I'd probably have to use Shock Trooper Upgrade instead of the Berserker Package or the Geth scanner so that I can get more grenades per game from my thermal clips.

Still, I think it's worth a try.  I'm really regretting using my last respec card yesterday to fix a minor error on my N7 Destroyer now. <_<

Leaving this here for when I get a respec card:http://kalence.drupa...!33W56333!86838

In that same game, I scored a headshot on a Phantom in the air, it was one of the most magnificent things I've ever seen! xD

I had fun with this build last night. There is a learning curve though. I have to learn that shoot roll rhythm. The good thing is that I have tons of strength enhancers, since I never know what to do with those on platinum anyway.

You do still have to aim the graal separately from the arrow, right?

Nope, not unless you want to, to conserve arrow charges for example.

You get a free form of "aimbot" from the arrows that allows you to two-piece with arrows and Graal flechettes.

Just pull and hold the trigger a split second before starting the heavy melee, then release the trigger when the targeting cursor is pulled over the targets face or body.  No aiming required. :)

Charged up attacks are fired the moment you release the trigger, regardless of if you're in the middle of a different animation, that's why the Graal, GPS, Venom, arc pistol and the Kishock are all good options for him, they can all take advantage of this feature.

I've been playing this since I asked for your build, and it's alot of fun. The one thing that was really pissing me off was the animation, he just reaches over to his left arm and touches Omni tool and then just stands there like a ******, I have to keep hammering the A button to get him to fire the arrow and it keeps getting me killed. Poor RustyBuckets02 has had to listen to me grip and complain for 2-3 days about the animation lol. So I'm going to try the dodge trick. Also I'm having some trouble with arrows only hitting the enemy appox. 50% of the time if they are on a different elevation. Is this normal even on-host?

Just tried this. It's legit, and something new for me. It really made my last few gold matches feel like less of a drag in the later waves just because I was having such a good time. Can't say I dislike the talon merc anymore. Praise be unto thee.

I have trouble hitting nemesis at times because of their movement speed. maybe it's something similar that's happening?

I have trouble sometimes killing Phantoms because sometimes i don't completely follow through with the entire Heavy Melee and only some of the arrows hit.

but I haven't had any kind of trouble with enemies on a different elevation usually. It may just be because if how distant you we're to the enemy, allowing them time to dodge and reduce some of the damage.

Sorry to raise this thread from the dead, but I have a question that didn't really warrant its own thread:

Has anyone ever tried using Concussive Arrows with light melee (spread shot) as a ghetto version of Ballistic Blades?  Do the arrows still ragdoll mooks, or do they at least have enough force to stagger?  If so, it could be an interesting play style.

I can try it myself, but if the answer is no, I don't want to bother.
