I'm frustrated that ME3 didn't learn its lesson IMO

Customer service is ongoing, not a one time thing, god I wish it was sometimes in my line if work but in many other businesses what happened does not qualify as good customer service (not to mention that if the customer is not satisfied the service was obviously not good enough, and we are talking solely about word of god here) But that's ok, keep justifying it all, I am sure they appreciate it.

Word of God was offered, my friend. It's not their job to repeat it over and over. It is what it is.

And I couldn't care less if anyone "appreciates" it or not. I have my own issues with the thing's execution.

It was offered, contradicted, then never again addressed. That us NOT good customer service in that respect. I do not care if you THINK the comicon troll was obviously a joke because 1: you have no proof and 2 people who were there and posted in thus very thread said people were pissed so no, it was obviously a not obvious and poor joke that needed a simple 20 words address to be forgotten

(laughs)

Keep on keeping on, sir. It's amusing, at the very least.

Observation of details and human behavior, staying rational, and understanding the common sense of a situation is far from "white knighting", sir. But I'll bear your comment in mind in the future: anyone who opposes such a willfully bitter outlook is apparently a white knight in your eyes. Good to know.

Word of God? About as close as you'll probably get.

One of the goals for the Extended Cut, as part of addressing player feedback, was to provide more time with the love interest, and more opportunity for players to say goodbye to them and provide additional moments of connection between them. We did this in several ways:
Shepard can now actually say goodbye to the love interest when they are split up at the conduit run.

When Shepard sees flashbacks of important characters during the final decision, the flashbacks are now variable based on your playthrough – so your love interest can appear as one of the flashbacks, providing another moment of reflection between Shepard and that character.

A memorial scene was added, partly to show a close bond between Shepard and the love interest. The scene is variable, and if Shepard has a love interest in a given playthrough, it will be that character who places Shepard’s name on the memorial wall.

You may notice that in the “Shepard lives” ending, the love interest hesitates to place Shepard’s name on the wall, and instead looks up as though deep in thought. This is meant to suggest that the love interest is not ready to believe Shepard is dead, and the final scene reveals they are correct. As the Normandy lifts off, there is hope that the love interest and Shepard will again be together.

Actually, people that were there was also upset. I was at the San Diego Comic Con base that day (didn't have tickets to the actual comic con) and as the attendees started to arrive at the base, that was the hot topic. I spoke with the guy later that evening and he was surprised that people took it seriously. Bad timing really, but he was not trolling ... just making a joke that fell flat. Nothing more.

That's about as good as I can do.

He wasn't being serious when he said it.

Remember when J.K. Rowling said she was going to pair Hermione with Neville? Yeah that.

Creators do and say things they don't mean.

I'm honestly taking your perspective as being deliberately upset. You're trying to find a reason to be upset. You don't have to go that far to do it.

It was a casual jest at a panel, not some official contradiction.

It didn't need addressing, and an official clarification of intent was presented on the BSN for those who needed it.

In short...

BW made joke here about Shepard surviving.

Crimsontearz don't get that it was joke, he feels trolled by this and wants excuse because excuse for misunderstood joke is obviously part of customer servise.

If my counter-position is considered "white-knighting" in this scenario? Indeed.

I understand and sympathize with the critics' concerns about the scene, to a degree, but I'll cut through the bullshit when my outlook gets labeled like that.

Believe me, I have many other reasons to be upset.  But this particular incident highlights very well the absolutely abysmal PR and customer service Bioware showed throughout this entire incident and beyond.

Whether it was meant in jest or not, it was taken seriously.  If not by you, me, or whoever, then by others.  And they got seriously p*ssed.  the responsible thing to do at that point is to say "Don't take it seriously, it was meant in jest."

You may roll your eyes at such a statement.  But such a statement wouldn't be for you anyway.

In addition, the "jest" highlights a serious weakness in the endings in general. Namely there isn't a single one where Shepard clearly survives, despite the plethora of endigs where Shepard clearly dies.  That just a jest can be taken seriously demonstrates the utter lack of satisfaction the breath scene provides.

What exactly was the joke made at comicon?

at a Q&A someone asked if the breath scene meant Shepard survived, Helper answered "it could very well be his last breath" sone say it was a joke but no one confirmed that and STRANGELY after he said so the one dev that was actively posting on the forum about Shepard's survival stopped doing so

What actually happened was they said it was up to everyone else to decide, and helper, while laughing mind you, said it could be a last breath. He held silence for 2 seconds before he and the other devs laughed as well.

And the reason devs stopped posting was they probably got twitter floods of people taking the joke out of context, realized they couldn't even tell jokes with fans without casuing controvery, and became fed up with this fanbase and this planet.

Because the best way of stopping that was to fall quiet (like two others did after the ending fiasco) as opposed to spend two minutes clarifying

Smart!

If BioWare wanted Shepard dead wouldn't they just skip the breath scene completely and leave him unarguably dead?

Smart!

Two minutes to clarify which would have turned into 4 hours of being yelled at and having people demand answers to question the devs can't answer, leading to more yelling and accusations at them, and more people simply saying don't believe biowares lies, along with the occasional bioware fanatic to come out and yell at the yellers.

Your outlook of this fanbase isn't an accurate one, because you see them as civil people looking for answers, and not the angry, pissed off mob looking for someone to blame and vent against that they really are.

There was never an answer that would satisfy fans, or way they could answer a question that wouldn't leave fans pissed. After months upon months of attempted appeasement, explinations, and having fans simply throw it back at the devs as being inadequate, bad writing, and wrong, I don't see why the devs shouldn't have given up on this fanbase and simply focused on pleasing those who weren't mad.

No Darth, because a simple tweet even saying "Helper was joking at comicon about Shepard's last breath" would have sufficed and no one would even have had to come here on the forums
