I'm frustrated that ME3 didn't learn its lesson IMO

Interesting! Here's a link to that entire discussion, where Hudson also covers the role-playing in ME2:

http://m.ign.com/art...-and-the-future

I don't recall entire quests or parts of stories cut out due to choices made in the game. I kind wish it did though, and had more of an effect to the game. Make the game more singular to each player.

As for how the 'love story' between my Shepard and Ashley was going to end, it was never going to end well. From the moment I first met her I was completely irritated with her character and hoped for better LI's in the sequel to choose from. I was not disappointed.

Jack does these things, I know.

Oddly enough, those Hudson quotes actually lend some credence to the idea of "the core cast" discussed ... in this thread, maybe? I dunno, I lost track.

Sure does, Jack included. Jack everywhere.

And Miranda does the same for myself.

You have Liara as the most popular love interest; Ashley/Kaidan; Patrick Weekes said they decided to bring Garrus and Tali back, so they could be squadmates in all three games; Vega and EDI for new players (and because it was necessary to have three core squad-mates in the game)...and a DLC character. No big surprises here.

T'soni might be the most popular LI for you, but for me she is an annoyance. I pick her up at the last possible moment in ME1, aviod her on Ilum if I choose(which is most of the time) and in ME3 I just ignore her.

In 9 out of every 10 playthroughs, Garrus and Tali are dead in ME2(I do this in protest of not having any ME2 squadmates on the ship) and plus I get an extra scene with Samantha when Garrus is dead.

The robot I just ignore and it has no purpose for being a squadmate. Maybe they had it for a squadmate to promote their synthesis ending.

So my playthrough does not have this "core" thing that is mentioned.

What's this extra scene with Traynor when Garrus is dead?

Traynor takes over the "get some rest scene" after Tuchanka and checks out FShep's ass.

Even while intentionally trying to avoid it, though, you can't keep from interacting with two of the original squad members who play substantial roles in the story (VS and Liara).  So, it still kinda does.

Yeah, well, some of us Ash fans (there are some of us who actually like the ME1 characters you know) were actually expecting some sort of third act conclusion that didn't involve her being mute for half the game and ending with Shep going "and now I must die on you...again"

What's mystifying to me is that they made bonding with your squad into a game mechanic and then act shocked when people...bonded. The VS didn't seem to be saved for anything particularly impressive: the most draaaamatically significant thing they do is die. (Seriously, I reccomend killing them at least once. It gives Joker, EDI, Garrus, and Liara good character moments)

'Protest,' huh?

Do you somehow think BioWare is hurt by that?

What's it to you? Does it bother you that I do this?

Why would it hurt them if they give me the option to have them dead?

Does it bother me? Hmm. That's an interesting question.

It doesn't exactly bolster my opinion of humanity.

Why is your opinion of humanity even affected by how he chooses to play a videogame? Because his way doesn't match yours?

Ofcourse, how silly of me. If only everyone on BSN(hell, on earth) would live up to your standards then all of our troubles would be as few and far between as my grandmother's teeth.

You don't see any problem with getting Garrus and Tali killed as some sort of effort to 'punish' BioWare for not including the ME 2 squad in ME 3?

It's unorthodox and not something I'd do, but, hey, the game allows it by design, so why not?

Why does it matter to you? It's wholly insignificant to anyone but the person doing the "punishment".

Not really. I don't necessarily agree with him, but that's irrelevant. If he wants to act out his frustrations in a videogame, that's none of my business. Besides, better for him to kill off fictional characters as a form of protest then, say, show up at Bioware headquarters and go postal on their sorry asses.

It is.

Same could be said about praising Liara.
