It should be noted that Adept has no real problem with shields. You can detonate biotic explosions on shields just fine. And if you are really concerned about shields, you can always take Energy Drain as a bonus power, or if you have DLC weapons, take the Acolyte pistol since it has an insane shield multiplier.seacrest3000 wrote...
I don't like playing adept because of their problems with shields, and I want to be flexible with my squadmates and bonus powers.
And really, all classes are flexible with squadmates since you can explode pretty much everything with everything else.

Combined with tech vulnerability from sabotage, will the engineer outperform the sentinel and their bonus to detonations from warp and throw?
1 on 1, I think the Engineer can out perform the Sentinel. With squadmates it gets a little more even since the Sentinel can use Liara and/or Javik for rapid detonations, while tech-based squadmates tend to have powers with longer cooldowns .
That being said, the Engineer is freaking awesome. No really, the Engineer is fantastic.

Do you have citadel dlc? Just wondering if this build works for armax arena.
And just out of curiosity does Shep's and Tali's tech vulnerability stack?

Having just finished an engineer run after several sentinel runs, the one big difference that stood out was just how much more squishy Shepard was. I was getting killed where I had not been killed before. So just keep in mind you aren't wearing tech armor anymore, unless, of course, you take fortification as a bonus power. (Personally, I prefer AP ammo for both my engineer and sentinel, although incendiary grenades might be good for an engineer if you don't have Ash around.)
i never used tech armor myself. I only picked up the sentinel for the mix of tech and biotic powers. I liked the flexibility of choosing bonus powers for sentinel because the class goes well with so many of the bonus powers. The cooldown penalty of tech armor really spoils the 200% cooldown that I really like.

defense matrix is objectively worse than fortitude. purging takes time away from your combos, and things that are dead do no damage.
First, it's Fortification.
Second, DM may be worse is several regards (no ammo power boost, less DR, etc), but it does provide shield restore when purged, which Fortification does not. So depending on what you hope to get out of it, Defense Matrix may actually be more advantageous. It is also more role-play appropriate for an Engineer, which is important to some players.
Quite frankly, the SP campaign is so ridiculously easy compared to MP that there's very little need to min/max your way through it.

You can offset this a bit with the Rosenkov armour pieces that give a bonus to your cooldowns. If I'm playing caster classes I use a mixture of Rosenkov and Serrice Council armour pieces to give a boost to power damage and cooldowns.
Also this thread from swk3000 shows that you can keep good cooldowns even with 2 defensive powers.
