Topic. What are some examples of characters from games, movies etc. who you're supposed to hate or disagree with, with whom you find yourself agreeing?

The Illusive Man

Miranda Lawson (I don't think you were supposed to 'hate' her, but she was clearly made to be someone to be pitied)

Cerberus

Many, many, many characters in WWII novels depicting the German and Japanese perspectives.

Many a Star Wars character

Many a Doctor Who character

Dexter (I understand completely what his impulses are)

Hannah McKay (From Dexter)

The Reapers. I oppose them, but I don't blatantly hate them. I see their actions as supremely illogical and problematic, but I don't ascribe hatred to them.

Basically anyone or anything in media and RL who I'm told to hate or despise without a real reason that is logical and not bound to subjective morality, perspective, or opinion.

My personal philosophy for all my enemies is not to hate them, at least not in a hot-blooded rage filled way. Even then, there are very few enemies I'd hate, and that hatred would mostly come from having to deal with their obnoxious crap day in and day out, or if they wronged me somehow. As a sniper buddy of mine said once, "I kill the enemy, but do not hate them."

Beat to me to making this topic...

I don't exactly agree with most of these guys and girls, but I really like them all. For me it's:

Harry Flynn
Eddy Raja
Talbot
Butch DeLoria
Daro'Xen
TIM
Colonel Radec
Alex DeLarge
Hans Gruber
Michael Myers
Jack Torrance
Stansfield
General Kuribayashi
General Miura
Lt Col Nishi

Charles Saracino (ME1)
Illusive Man (ME2)
Han'Gerrel (ME3)
Teyrn Loghain (DA:O)

General Jackson Blackstone from John Birmingham's "After America." I'm leery of fiction where person X is treated as the bad guy, assumed guilty from the start, and never given a chance to explain themselves. I was waiting for the third book in the series to reveal that everyone zeroing in on him from the beginning as being responsible for hoodlums burning a Mexican farmhold to the ground with no evidence or motive would turn out to have been a distraction from the real culprit, but... meh.

The InGen guys from the second Jurassic Park movie. The environmentalist "protagonist" of the film ought to have been raptor chow, considering how many people died on account of his actions.

I admit, I don't really like Charles Saracino.

He's a backwards idiot who wants to keep a hard-line between humans and aliens. He reminds me of Harrowmont.

I should say that: Bhelen over Harrowmont. Harrowmont is backwards thinking, reactionary buffoon.

Also, the Dalatrass: Despite her being a rude idiot whose ideas are rather racist and self-indulgent to the Salarians coupled with her complete lack of awareness of the Reaper threat, I agree completely with her views on the genophage and the Krogan.

Saracino seems to me more like a guy who would take a stand when Council policies try to keep us down. He's like TIM without the mad science or indoctrination.

Eh, I'm going to be operating beyond the control of the Law anyway. Or even better, I'd be the master behind the puppets.

I'll stick away from indoctrination, but the mad science will be done if it gets what we need.

Every single antagonist in Assassin's Creed 3.

I found pretty much all of them were doing more right than Connor was.

For that matter, the Knight's Templar in general for Assassin's Creed.

Yeah, there are a lot of corrupt jackwagon's, like Rodrigo and Cesare Borgia, but, especially as III and Revelations show, the Assassin's aren't much different.

It's two different, and equally valid to a certain extent, worldviews clashing over interpretation and ideology.

It basically shows me what I believe is the greatest evil of all: Ideological Extremism of Mind.

Very true, I actually sympathized with the Templars far more than the Assassins.

This scene pretty much epitomizes why I favoured the Templars so much more in AC3, tbh.

I thought it was stupid as hell at the end of AC2 that Desmond, with his hoodie and ancient hidden blade, kills something like a dozen Abstergo mooks without batting an eye (were those guys even armed except with sticks?). Come on - wouldn't one of them have a stungun or something if they wanted him alive?

An assassin who casually murders fifty city guards en route to his target kinda loses my respect, too... it was actually kinda funny trying to do a "pacifist" playthrough of the first game, only killing the target himself.

I was gonna mention him too. I loved the How It Should Have Ended for that movie.

"Wait, weren't you supposed to be explaining to them what we were here for? What we need?"
"Well, yeah, but I hooked up with Neytiri instead."

I think he had good intentions, and I do think he was a good character when it comes down to it, but as friendo Pitcairn pointed out to him: "And we should all live in our castles in the sky. You wield your blade like a man, but your mouth like a child...and now more people are going to die, because of that."

Could mankind ask for a greater hero?

Him and ME2-TIM should totally team up, preferebly alongside Colonel Kilgore.
