Yeah, I never hated Vader. Didn't know I was supposed to either. Return of the Jedi through that further out of wack.Br3ad wrote...
Wait? We're supposed to hate SW Space Jeebus? Well that explains why the prequels went with Hayden Christensen.
Characters you are supposed to hate (but you don't)

They weren't exaclty subtle about that, but somehow Padme missed it. It was painful to watch the part where Anakin admits that he murdered a whole village full of sand people and she's like "That's okay, you were just mad, everyone gets mad sometimes."Br3ad wrote...

But we were never meant to hate him. Be disappointed in sure, but he's the poster child for the hard-knock-life. And honestly, the Sand People would have attacked anyway. Plus, I don't care about them.bobobo878 wrote...

It wasn't so much that I agreed with the character, as that he was such a fun villain that I was hoping he'd survive into the sequel.
Also deserves a mention.

I can't speak for others here, but when I wrote Vader, I meant Episode IV and V.
Quite frankly I'm not sure what the hell we're supposed to think in I - III. I try and pretend they don't exist. Like Michael Jordan's tenure with the Wizards.

Episode I through III features some of the worst casting decisions made in the history of film. Hayden Christiansen as Darth Vader? And Jake Lloyd before him? What was Lucas thinking?

I also really liked zod from man of steel, loki from the new marvel movies, joker and bane from the batman films, theon greyjoy from game of thrones, Calvin Candie and Stephen from Django, Saren from mass effect, Makarov from call of duty, Magneto from xmen, Ringwraiths and the ugly orc from lord of the rings, the list just goes on and on.

Somehow I don't think you were supposed to like Kreia from KOTOR II. I mean, her philosophy at heart is all of Ayn Rand's garbage, and yet, the way the character is written into the story and her personal interactions with you transcend that mess ...
I didn't feel you were supposed to hate her either. Otherwise she would've been my first choice. I thought Kreia was portrayed as a harsh, but on some level relatable mentor to the Exile. It never felt like she stopped taking on that role even at the bitter end when you had to kill her. That's just me, though.
I never tough you were supposed to hate Kreia. But I did. So it's kinda the opposite for me.

Speaking of Star Wars, Darth Malgus was kind of cool.
Darth Jadus.
As a Star Wars fan, the only compelling villains I saw were the Emperor and Vader, especially in between the two trilogies, when he was at his most brutal and nihilistic.
I've simply never understood the appeal of Darth Maul, but that's probably because I look at it from too much of Star Wars fan perspective. In the gist of things in SW, Maul isn't really more than a crafty thug imo. Ventress is an angry woman who doesn't know who she is, and Durge is a deadly bounty hunter, but simply too much of a literal beast that he just doesn't seem like something worthwhile. He's good to have as a mook, but as a villain, he's just too wreckless. Grievous was better when he was the unseen chessmaster rather than the cyborg translyvanian murder machine.
Tyranus is a master duelist and powerful force user, but I see him as the Emperor sees him: little more than a place holder for the guy with the real power.
I always like Palpatine. The prequels didn't help that at all. There's not much about the prequels I did like. EU Palps post-Jedi got a bit OP, but that honestly serves to show me how powerful he was, and Pre-Menace, he's a total manipulative bastard of the 11th degree. It's glorious.
I like the more studious and powerful Sith who use their brain as much they use the Force or brute physical strength. There's something much more sinister and dark about the ones who manipulate events without even activating a lightsaber or using the Force than anything else. The ones who understand that their best weapons aren't the Force or their physical prowess, but the ability to make others be such with simple words and character.
Of course, said characters are also vastly more powerful and skilled in both the Force and physical prowess than their more martial counterparts.

Also voting for Morinth from ME2. We finally got a Dark & Serious character(unless you're counting thane) in the Mass Effect Trilogy. Tragic that her finale involved a name-swapped banshee.
Sun-Li, the Glorious Strategist. He's a clever one.

If you haven't read comics, your only impression on him would be to hate him. And he's awesome in the comics.
And even then, he is a saint compared to Aria. Cold blooded criminal warlord that you're assisting to take back Omega for her, to continue her ruthless rule.
Oleg was the best thing that happen to that dump.

Aria's efficient.
That's all I care about. She can be as cold-blooded and ruthless as she wants to be and I won't bat an eye-lash.
Partly because I view those things as virtues.
Petrovsky is good too. A genius tactician, and he's unwilling to pointlessly expend his subordinates on plans that will just get them killed without doing anything useful.
I honestly wish I could've kept Petrovsky and his fleet intact and given Aria back Omega. I really was hoping to broker a peace between them there. Nyreen can puff and sputter. She can't and won't do things that might need doing, so she has no place to be anywhere near power.
I'll take the ruthless dictator over the compassionate philanthropist any day.
