Considering how sparse NPC interaction was in Morrowind, I'm not sure how much of a difference it would make to me other than seeing players besides me looting everything from money to kitchen utensils... to sell for more money. :pinched:

Bethesda would probably make a better MMO than story driven RPG. With BioWare it felt odd to me and there was that slight sadness at knowing no KotOR III was coming. In this case I see it as Bethesda playing closer to their strengths.

:look:

How many MMORPGs does this world need?

I mean, with RPGs or FPSs I can understand if people have 3 or more installed at once. But MMOs? Will anybody subscribe to more than one of them at once? And how many MMO players are there? And aren't they all addicted to WoW already?

Will they really leave behind their nearly perfect builds to start completely anew in a different world?

It's probably the Fallout MMO that interplay was going to develop until Bethesda sued them for not meeting production dates.

Actually, if it is a TES mmo, I wouldn't mind. I have always though that Morrowind and Oblivion felt like MMO's that I play by myself, especially Morrowind. However, the game wouldbe ruined for many of the fans, not because it's an MMO, but because of the idiot community that comes with MMO's. It's the same reason I fear SW:TOR, which I'm sure will be a great game, will is destroyed by a community of mushbrain 13 year olds.

I surely won't buy it and I am proud to say so. Not this possible TES MMO or TOR. I won't spend my money on something I consider completely boring and useless.

MMOs lack the depth and story compared to RPGs. Thats my main problem with them. You just kill monsters, level up, get loot which can be good until you reach the endgame. Then after you have all, the game starts to be boring - raiding the same bosses over and over or burning other clan keeps. But if you played Age of Conan, there is the starting (tutorial) area called Tortage and this one ha depth of singleplyer RPGs, so there is surely a way how to make a MMO as good as single RPGs in the future. It will just need some more time. I am looking forward to KOTOR myself and will try it, although I also have my doubts regarding the community and the way how developers will handle it. I have quite negative experience with communities around MMOs, I think the best of each MMO is when that MMO is released - in that time it has lot technical problems, but if it goes about the rules, they are the best. After a time technical problems get solved, but community forces the devs to change their MMO rules in a manner I dont like. But there is always hope =]

I agree with I Valente I. Even if BioWare manages to pull off incorporating story into an MMO(which would be a very accomplishing feat), the community could decide the fate. Hell, last time I played an MMO, I didn't just see 13-year olds, I saw people even younger. Even the people who are past the 13 mark aren't kind at all.

First of all, why does this have to be an RPG? Why must every MMO always have to be an RPG? Hell, if Bethesda is going to take the easy route and make this a WoW clone, then what's the point?

Any game that I have to play on other people's time is pure fail.

That is my number one issue with MMORPGs.

What? I thought they said they wouldn't do an Elder Scrolls mmo... ugh. I hate those things. too much "go kill that thing over there so you can level up and go kill that other thing". Now they're tainting Elder Scrolls? Where's the fifth one Bethesda, hmm?

I certainly hope THIS isn't the fifth one.

I agree with you there but I cant help being a little dissapointed that the next game in the TES series is going to be an MMO.

Say what you will about Oblivion but I still believe that it was a good game, not because of the story and quests Bethesda released but because of the fact that they released an easy to use content creation tool that allowed players to create some pretty spectacular mods.

Personally I think Oblivion was a waste of money on consoles and the only reason that it was any good on PC was because of the modding community.

However if Bethesda are making the new TES game an MMO I dont think it would play like Oblivion online. Sure Oblivions wide open world and quest set up would be more suited to an MMO but there are many aspects of Oblivion that are only really suited to a single player game. For instance in an MMO they would not allow us to loot houses to the extent that we were able to do in Oblivion (this is for obvious reasons really), also they wouldnt be able to keep the skill and combat systems used in Oblivion either, if every character was able to max all of their skills then there would be no point to having roles in a group, anyone would be able to do anything.

I think that if Bethesda are making an MMO set in the TES world then the outcome would look more like a WoW clone rather than Oblivion online.

It is mostly because RPGs are the easiest genre to adapt to the MMO setting. RPG combat is decided more by stats and gear rather than skill and reflex and thus is not effected as much by lag. Also RPG combat is a lot simpler and puts a lot less strain on a servers bandwidth.

However there is an MMO that isnt an RPG that will be released on the 7th of Feb. It is the first MMOFPS created and I believe the open beta is available on the PSN.

It is called MAG, Masivley Action Game, it supports huge maps with 256 players playing on the same map at the same time. If they can pull it off it should be one hell of a game.

I'm actually looking forward to that game. What about APB though?
